The Transdimensional Gas Station

welp i am frankly puzzled, the building @Ringo found is very similar but there are enough differences to make it still a mystery
frankly i have no idea what to do now

My reading of the original story (several times) has the young fellows stopping at a gas station. Maybe not up to date, or like other gas stations they were used to, but they didn't think it odd until later. The description does not sound like anything other than a gas station to me. As I understand Ringo's last trip, this place might not even be on the same road, no matter what side of the road it was found on. I am very familiar with gas stations, old and new, and I don't see one in Ringo's photos.
thats the problem, at least to me it looks like some guy's abandoned car stash with some junk there wich might or might not be part of a old gas operation, but there are still too many differences from the original report

verbatim :
.. in front of the house, right up against the edge of the tarmac of the road, sat a long, shed-type structure covered in corrugated metal plate and roofed with tar paper. On the short end of the shed, facing the way we were coming from, was an old, orange-striped gas pump. Set into the side of the shed was an open door and a large, grimy window cluttered with cans of motor oil and other stuff. In this window hung a large plastic sign saying, simply, “Gas” ... As I mentioned, we’d both travelled along this road many times, but never noticed this strange-looking gas station before

it would be uncanny in sparsely populated areas not to find little vehicle outposts here and there ... cars, farm machinery, bikes, etc, general hoarding

i think its interesting that there is some commonality to OP ... but in some respects its almost like a mirror-image ! spooky ...

verbatim :
Yep, sounds like a gas station. Sign advertising gas.

But this is all rather pointless. Either the story is true, and the station was not there an a few hours later, or it's just a yarn. Either way, I would not expect to find it if I went looking. Something that may have looked a little bit like what was described at one time is beside the point.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but wouldn't a Swedish fuel station say "PETROL" on the sign or the Swedish equivalent?

So what? The whole point of the story is that the place somehow appeared that one time, like something that didn't belong there. Why would it be there now, in any state?

One of the many problems with the story. It's a great story though! And no, Henry, I'm not leaving. If I were in Ringo's position, I'd be looking around too. I just don't get the attempts to make some random building sort of near the setting of the story into some kind of explanation.

how is it an explanation, i dont think anyones said that have they ... id be occasionally taking the backroads glancing left and right also if i were local, its basically the ethos of ihtm imho, and all credit to ringo ... and there is a door, but it no doubt is at the unphotographed rear of the structure

Seems like there are two possible explanations. Either the "strange looking gas station" popped into existence that one time where it had not been before, and was gone a few hours later, or it never existed at all. The two guys were mistaken? I suppose, if they were morons.

the third option (less likely than the others but still merits attention) is that they somehow became confused about where they are and ended up in @Ringo 's bulding back when it was a little different

That's what I mean by being morons. Seriously, I'd say they covered that possibility when, after the mechanic had no clue who they were talking about, they went back up the same road looking for the place. If they had passed by that way numerous times, the last time being a few hours prior, at the most, do you really think they were "confused"? The fact the mechanic drew a blank when they described the place and the occupant is very weird, if true, as it was just a few minutes away from the mechanic's place.

I asked that of the OP. The sign was in Swedish but he wrote the tranlsation here for clarity.

That's sort of where I am too but maybe not this exact building. If it isn't just BS then the young lads maybe got confused as to their exact position. Being young, they may hve found the situation stressful and recollection of the events may become distorted.

Or it's just a nice little story. Either way, it's exciting driving those back roads.

I don't expect to find The TDGS on my excursions nor am I trying to bend existing structures to fit the narrative. I am just reporting what i find for those of you who can't get there or explore yourselves. Any buildings, sheds or garages which are near to the very general position given by the OP are looked at. There is an air of strangness in the area but that's probably more my doing than anything else.

I've just thought of something - each time I drive there I have loads of petrol as I fill up nearby. Maybe I should try it when the needle is in the red?:nails:

Oddly enough, if you look up what Wikipedia says about time slips, you will find them described there as a story line in books and films. Aside from demonstrating how hopeless Wikipedia is where such matters are concerned, maybe this explains the OU's odd take on the question. With around 500 cases so far on the record, you can no longer claim that time slips are "rare." Of course, even if this case hasn't been finally settled, it might have a different explanation.
Wikipedia used to have a much more "Fortean" entry on the timeslip phenomenon, its potential nature and what environmental or psychic conditions might trigger it - I remember consulting it a lot during 2010, when I was preparing my own creative writing piece for my OU course. I believe Wikipedia deleted it a year or two later because it ventured too far into the parascience category, although it certainly used to be retrievable by working back through the revision history of the page.

Interesting that they deliberately deleted something purely on those grounds. Rather absurd, and knowingly misleading to claim, in effect, that time slips per se don't even exist. I have had occasion to contact Wikipedia about similar bias and dishonest entries before, and you can guess what sort of response I got.

anyone can edit no ?
In theory, but it requires a lot of highly specialised knowledge, and I would have no idea how to even begin! Obviously people with strongly held views might be willing to make a lot of effort to get them over, and I think some of them have targeted topics of the kind we find interesting and imposed their own bias on the entries.

It's extremely important for some people to be "right". More important than the truth is to them, all too often.

I was excited to read an update on this. Can I just say Ringo what an excellent job you're doing investigating this. Whether or not this is the Transdimensional Gas Station or not, you've still found something interesting and I must say it looks like a very enjoyable job driving around those beautiful roads with those pretty houses looking for it. So well done.

I'm not sure whether I think this is the TDGS or not, cos I'm on the fence about the whole thing. Not as to whether I believe the story or not - cos I do - but as to what I think it was. On the one hand it could be something that only appeared when it was needed (perhaps to other people at other times as well, who knows?) in which case there will never be an old, run-down version of it; or it existed in the past and the people in the original story travelled back in time somehow to when it was still in use, in which case a ruin could theoretically exist (assuming it hasn't been pulled down / burnt down / etc.)

If you're brave, then your idea of going when you don't have enough petrol would be a good one; although I suspect that because you'd be planning to run out then it wouldn't work - it would have to be a genuine need, you know?

this! excellent stuff!

Just doin' my job, Ma'am.

No seriously, thank you for your thanks. I enjoy driving around on strange and unusual quests. A few years back I did a road trip whilst in the UK to lots of Fortean places. I love the idea of being on an adventure. I'm not really expexting to find or solve the mystery. I just want to add more pictures and info for you guys who can't get there.
