Strange Crimes

Some years back, playing with the band at a gig in Berwick and we were putting the gear in the van (manky old Ford Transit, of course), afterwards.

Somehow managed to leave my Gibson Les Paul, in guitar case, on the pavement.

Got back home, realised the horrendous error and frantically phoned the local police to see if it had been handed in.

Cop on the other end of phone was a pure bast@rd...

'Let's get this right', he says..

'You're telling me that you left a guitar, worth £750 on the pavement...'?

Then he laughs hysterically...

Fortunately, one of the club staff spotted it when closing up and took it inside.

So... guess stuff like this happens!

Kurt Cobain left his Fender on stage after his slot at the Reading Festival- it was not picked up by his Roadies so one of the our Stage Crew newbies ran after them and handed it over - "oh right - thanks". This was despite the first thing the newbies were told - always go through the Stage Crew Manager !
Kurt committed suicide 18 months later, reckon that guitar would have been worth a few bob.

All bets are off.

A US man has been accused of staging his own "elaborate" kidnapping to avoid paying out lost Super Bowl bets.

Robert Brandel, 60, was found tied up in his truck near Buffalo in New York state on Wednesday. He told officers he had been abducted by two armed men two days earlier - but police were suspicious that he appeared to be clean-shaven and calm. Officials now believe he was trying to get out of paying $50,000 (£37,740) he owes following an online group bet. He faces charges of fraud and filing a false police report.

Strewth!

An Airbnb host has admitted killing a guest at his home near Melbourne, Australia, who could not afford to pay.

Jason Colton, 42, denies murder, but has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ramis Jonuzi in October 2017. A court heard two housemates held the 36-year-old man down, while Colton beat and strangled him for not paying the A$210 (£113, $149) he owed them. Colton says he only wanted to cause Mr Jonuzi to pass out, not kill or seriously injure him. Australian daily The Age reported at the time that Mr Jonuzi was a bricklayer, who had rented the room in Brighton East because he wanted a cheap and stable place to stay while he dealt with some "personal issues".

Poor creatures were shell shocked.

Philippine police have seized more than 1,500 live turtles and tortoises found wrapped in duct tape at Manila airport.

The reptiles, found in four unclaimed pieces of luggage, could have sold for more than 4.5 million pesos (£60,000; $86,631). Police believe the bags were abandoned after the carrier found out about the harsh penalties for illegal wildlife trafficking. If caught, they could face two years in jail and a fine of up to 200,000 pesos. A total of 1,529 turtles and tortoises of different species were found in four pieces of unclaimed luggage in the arrivals area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday.

Some of the animals were of the Sulcata Tortoise species - which are recognised as vulnerable on the IUCN's Red list of Threatened species. The Red-eared Slider turtle was also among the reptiles found.

What colour was the case? I'm guessing black..
A black guitar case, sat outside the dimly lit back door and it's about one o'clock in the morning, torrential rain...

You've, obviously won a prize and had to think long and hard, searching for something suitably appropriate...

Exploding firewood.

German police are searching for anyone who knew a landscape gardener who may have targeted them by laying booby traps before he died.

Bernhard Graumann, 59, was found dead on Friday. Police believe he may be behind an explosive trap that killed a 64-year-old doctor on the same day. Two other people with connections to Graumann were injured by an exploding piece of firewood in their home. Those who think Graumann held a grudge against them should contact the police.

Bernhard Graumann, from the small town of Mehlingen in western Germany, died on the night of 1 March at his home. Police are awaiting an autopsy report. Earlier that day, a 64-year-old doctor in the nearby town of Enkenbach-Alsenborn was killed in a deliberate explosion. German police say the unnamed doctor was killed by a booby trap planted at the front door of the doctor's practice, which was apparently triggered when the victim picked a disguised device from the ground.

This is worthy of Agatha Christie!

A tad OTT.

A WOMAN went on a terrifying rampage with a steak knife after a stranger "looked at her funny" outside a corner shop.

Carla Couperthwaite, 22, spent five minutes trying to get into the Greater Manchester store - with witnesses claiming she was "frothing at the mouth".

Bolton Crown Court heard the young man was seen fleeing Couperthwaite, running across the road to barricade himself into the store as she unleashed the "frightening and ferocious" attack. Her lawyer Nicholas Ross told the court she had felt the man in question "had been looking at her on a number of occasions in a manner she felt was troubling."

But he added: "What she did then however has absolutely no excuse. She is ashamed by her conduct." CCTV captured the attack, which unfolded on February 4, showing drunk Couperthwaite trying to get into the convenience store before then turning on a second man as he walked past. She appeared to berate the man as she kicked him.

Man Storms Taco Bell, Makes Own Mexican Pizza
Cops: Suspect was angry over paucity of meat

MARCH 8--A drive-thru customer enraged by the paucity of meat on his Mexican pizza stormed a Taco Bell in South Carolina and “walked into the kitchen area and began making his own food,” police report.

According to cops, the suspect entered the Taco Bell in Spartanburg Wednesday afternoon complaining that “there was not enough meat on his Mexican pizza.”

A store employee told cops that she “re-made the suspect’s food.”

The man, however, was equally displeased with his second pizza and demanded a refund. When told that was not possible since a manager was not on the premises, the suspect became “enraged,” declaring that he “would show the employees how to make his food the appropriate way,” according to a police report.

Carp on: man to appeal sentence for guillotining fish without prior stunning
sd/lw 12.03.2019, 09:06

In the first ruling of its kind, a district court in Poland sentenced a 59-year-old Polish man for three months in prison for killing carp without stunning them first in December 2018 in Krotoszyn in western Poland.

The judgement is not final and the accused sought acquittal after the announcement of the verdict.

Animal rights advocacy group Viva! informed the police that the accused committed a was killing the carp with a guillotine without prior stunning, causing torment to the animals.

On Monday, the prosecutor applied for a six-month imprisonment, even as a Viva! representative called the case a precedent and demanded a year in prison in addition to a ban on the defendant's business of breeding or selling fish for five years. Eventually, the court agreed to three months of imprisonment and a fine.

killing carp without stunning them first

A philosopher has addressed the question which crossed my mind.

It turns into an essay on empathy, taking us away from the question of whether anything could be more stunning than decapitation. :dunno:

Edit: I gather, from the essay, that the Polish tradition of eating carp at Christmas and wanting it fresh has led to fishmongers demonstrating how freshly-killed theirs is, by doing it on the spot. It may be the only time in the year that folk are confronted with the realities of slaughter.

The Polish carp certainly has it easier than this Chinese one! - not a link for the tender-hearted!

Germany: Drunk passenger demands high-speed train slow down
German police say a drunken man with a fire extinguisher smashed his way into the driver’s cab of a high-speed train running from Frankfurt to Paris and demanded that the driver slow down.

... The 30-year-old man from Heideberg, who wasn’t identified, was arrested and faces an investigation into dangerous interference in rail traffic, among other things.

Police say passengers said the man took a fire extinguisher off the wall, smashed a glass door separating the cab from the passenger compartment, and told the shocked driver the train was going much too fast and he had to save the passengers.

No passengers were hurt but the train was taken out of service.

Fiendish Fetus Facilitator Fingered.

Indian authorities are investigating a possible smuggling ring after discovering a live human embryo in a suitcase at Mumbai's airport.

A Malaysian national was allegedly found with the embryo in a canister concealed in his luggage on 16 March. The man, who reportedly admitted this was not the first time he had smuggled embryos into India, then led officials to a high-end IVF clinic in the city. But the clinic has vehemently denied being involved, alleging a set-up.

Amazingly he got off with manslaughter verdict! Best to pay your bills in Oz!

An Airbnb host in Australia has been jailed for 11 years for killing a guest who could not afford to pay.

A jury convicted Jason Colton, 42, of 2017 killing of Ramis Jonuzi. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but denied murder.

A court heard two housemates had held the 36-year-old down, while Colton beat and strangled him for not paying the A$210 (£113, $149) he owed.

A judge described the attack as "cowardly, vicious and unprovoked".

Mr Januzi, a 36-year-old bricklayer, had packed his bags and was about to leave the home when he was attacked.

Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth said Colton instigated the violence.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Defense attorneys say a man accused of brutally stabbing a man to death in Alexandria last July did so because he thought the victim was a werewolf.

On July 13, 2018, police were called to an Old Town window replacement business in the 1200 block of King Street after receiving reports for a suspicious death.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they found Pankaj Bhasin locked inside a Mercedes Benz with no pants on covered in blood.

Inside the business, officers found the owner, Brad Jackson, 65, suffering from 53 stab wounds, among other injuries.

On Tuesday in court, the defense pleaded to strike the murder trial from the court stating a more appropriate charge of voluntary manslaughter should be applied.

The defense claimed Bhasin suffered from mental health issues and that he thought Jackson was a werewolf at the time of the incident.

Appointment in Samara, delayed..

A babysitter has been jailed for nine years after claiming she tried to kill her neighbour’s five-year-old daughter because she thought the child was Gollum from The Lord of the Rings.

Galina Kobzeva, 69, attacked Nadya Shustova with a knife and hammer before throwing her off a third floor balcony. The badly injured child was close to death in hospital and survived by a “miracle". Pensioner Kobzeva, convicted of attempted murder, told a judge during her trial that she checked on Nadya as the girl watched TV and “suddenly saw Gollum from The Lord of the Rings” and the fictional hobbit “stared” at her “loudly laughing”.

A woman who witnessed part of the incident saw Kobzeva throwing the child from the balcony at a block of flats in the Samara region of Russia - then rescued the girl from the pavement and called an ambulance. ...

An old Irish curse went: May Ye Be Showered With Shite!

This guy is a rotten type.

A Belfast man threw his partner down a flight of stairs before emptying the contents of his colostomy bag over her, a court has heard.

Samuel Victor Hislop (62), was given two years probation for an attack described by the judge as “nasty”. Hislop, a school car park attendant from Daphne Street in the city, pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault. Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard the victim had gone to bed while he continued drinking at their home on January 19th this year.

I really don't see that holding up in court. July 13 was a new moon, not a full moon.

Wanted man tries to flee Australia on a jetski

A wanted British man has attempted to flee Australia on a jetski, travelling almost 150km (93 miles) across the Torres Strait while armed with a crossbow.
The 57-year-old man is subject to an outstanding warrant for drug-related charges in Western Australia.
The man almost made it to Saibai Island, in the Torres Strait Islandsarchipelago, which is part of Australia, though just 4km south of Papua New Guinea. He was arrested on the mudflats on the eastern side of the island.
..

“He gave it a red-hot go,” said Jock O’Keeffe of Queensland police.

It has been declared a mistrial as nobody can agree whether he was undergoing a psychotic episode at the time of the murder.

I wonder if it was for scrap, or as a souvenir, or as an attempt to win a bet?

Says they've released the man pending further enquiries. Is he likely to stay in the country?
