So who's a fan of the long-running game of murder and detection?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluedo
Cluedo (Clue in North America) is a crime fiction board game originally published by Waddington Games, UK in 1948. It was devised by Anthony Pratt, a solicitor's clerk from Birmingham, England. It is now published by the US game and toy company Hasbro, which acquired American board game company Parker Brothers, that originally manufactured the game.

Trivia
In Canada and the U.S., the game is known as Clue. Possibly it was retitled because the traditional British board game Ludo, on which the name is based, was less well known there than its American variant Parcheesi. There are also localised versions for Japan and China.

Expressions such as "Colonel Mustard, in the Library, with the candlestick," have entered popular culture, in much the same way as "Hotel on Boardwalk (Mayfair in the British edition)" from Monopoly.

Enough rope has been included in Clue and Cluedo games to encircle the world.

In some international versions of the game (mostly the Spanish-language ones) the colors of some pieces are different, so as to correspond with the changes to each suspect's name

I rather enjoyed Clue.

I like the game. So much so, I've a natty computer version which is fun to play.

I suppose we'd better mention the film Clue, which has a cult following possibly because it's the only film based on a board game but maybe not because it's particularly good.

I had a friend who was a great admirer of the film.

If I recall, she'd been to a Clue themed costume party at a hotel in the States.

The film seems to go down very well in the USA, but the Americanisation of a very British game doesn't translate that well over here, even with Tim Curry flinging himself about.

My fondest memories of playing Cluedo were with my parents and a schoolfriend, back in the 70s during one of those frequent power cuts we used to get in England. A candlestick in the middle of the board added much to the atmosphere!

Not quite the only film.... Battleship.

And Jumanji, but that wasn't a real game.

As Battleship wasn't released until six years after I wrote that, I think I can be excused this oversight. Ridley Scott keeps saying he wants to make a Monopoly movie, but it's been stuck in development Hell for ages.

I bet you're the kind of person who claims the dog ate their homework.

I feel absolutely convinced that there must be more (likely dreadful) films based on board games, but I'm failing to discover them.

Edit: Did Games Workshop ever get Space Hulk made?

The quite excellent Zathura (but that is based on a fictional game, like Jumanji).

Some years ago my sister bought Cluedo at a jumble sale whilst on holiday and the instructions were missing. I got a call at 10pm as none in her family could remember how to play it (no point asking me).

I havent played Cluedo for years, but it was the source of much fun in the past. It is only fitting then that i consider Clue to be a top notch film! Very quotable.

As for other films based on games would Ouija count?
