Son throws urine at mom

Singapore - A 19-year-old man was accused in a Singapore court of throwing a plastic bag filled with urine at his 43-year-old mother, news reports said on Wednesday.

Wang Kang Long, 19, allegedly hurled the bag on January 15 and then threatened Hong Soon Kwee with a pointed chopstick in their flat, The Straits Times said.

The accused inflicted intentional physical pain to his mother on another occasion by pushing her shoulder and pinching her cheeks, a district court heard on Tuesday.

He was also charged with restraining his mother on her bed and preventing her from moving around the house.

Wang was sent to the Institute of Mental Health. His next court appearance is set for February 8.

If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail and a fine of up to 2 000 Singapore dollars on each charge.

Avalanche man urinates his way into urban legend
By Lester Haines
Published Thursday 3rd February 2005 12:03 GMT
The report on the Slovak man who urinated his way out of an avalanche with the aid of 60 half-litre bottles of beer has been debunked by the ever-vigilant snopes.com.

To recap, we noted with some delight that "Richard Kral was off on holiday when the snow swallowed his Audi in the Tatra mountains. Initially, he tried to dig his way out via the car's window, but soon realised that the snow would fill the vehicle long before he could break free." He susequently used his handy supplies of ale to generate sufficient hot liquid to melt his way to freedom.

Or rather, he did not. Snopes explains:

The story about a Slovak man who was buried inside his car by an avalanche, and supposedly freed himself by drinking beer and urinating on the snow to melt it, was carried by a number of western news services in January 2005. The story has so far proved difficult to verify because its attributions have been vague (e.g., "correspondents in Bratislava"), and it evidently originated in a part of the world (the Slovak Republic) where information sources are more difficult to track down (particularly because the language is unfamiliar to most westerners).

However, a correspondent who works for a Slovak news agency informed us that not only has the avalanche story (or any news story about an avalanche) not appeared in the news media there, but the very same tale (of Czech origin, told about an unnamed man caught in the Austrian Alps) was circulating in that country as an e-mail joke even before the heavy snows described in the article occurred.

This comes as a crushing blow to those of us who were about to use the heroic tale as proof that the safety-concious driver always carries at least 30 litres of beer, and allows him or herself the occasional sip as part of the latest, scientifically-proven cancer-busting programme. Distraught readers can rest assured that we will provide proof that beer increases male potency and eliminates world hunger just as soon we have consoled ourselves with a few pints. ®

I would say that skunk spray varies in intensity depending on the proximetry of the smeller. When the first tendrils of odor waft to your nostrils it smells not unlike grapes that have gone rotten. The closer you get to the site of dispersal the more cloying it becomes with a heavy petrolium overtone and at ground zero the muskiness is sulferlike and fills your nostrils, mouth and eyes with a burning tang.
Some extra dark Starbucks coffee when first brewed has a similar smell.

Man tied a knot in it

A Romanian man ended up in hospital after he tied string around his penis to avoid going to the toilet.

Vasile Barbulescu now faces months of complicated surgery to correct the damage caused, according to local press.

He was taken to hospital in Galati in southeast Romania where he admitted wrapping string around his penis to put off going to the toilet until he got home.

Doctors have said they are unsure whether they can repair the damage and say he faces repeated surgery.

Dr Alexandru Iurea who treated the man, said: "He told us he had tied it round really tight. When we finally got it off we saw his penis had massive injuries."

Cow urine hotter than mascot in BJP market

New Delhi, March 1 (Reuters): Alongside life-size posters of Sangh parivar stalwarts, BJP activists can now buy lotions, potions and pills to cure anything from cancer to hysteria to piles — all made from cow urine or dung.

The new Goratna stall at the BJP souvenir shop is rapidly outselling dry political tracts, badges, flags and saffron-and-green plastic wall clocks with the face of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“You won’t believe how quickly some of the products sold out,” says Manoj Kumar, who runs the souvenir shop along with his brother, Sanjeev, at the BJP headquarters in the central New Delhi neighbourhood. “The constipation medicine is a hot seller.”

But the biggest seller is a “multi-utility pill” that claims to cure anything from diabetes to piles to “ladies’ diseases”.

“It’s a miraculous cure” the container declares. A month’s supply costs a little over Rs 45.

Another cure-all is Sanjivani Ark, a liquid medicine that battles cancer, hysteria, and irregular periods, among other things.

In addition to medicines, the Goratna products range from cow dung toothpaste, to detergents, a skin-whitening cream, baldness and obesity cures, soap and a cow urine “antiseptic aftershave”.

Siddarth Singh, a spokesman for the BJP, which has long campaigned on the sanctity of the cow, said the stall aimed to promote village industry, one of the biggest employers in India. “If you go back in the history of India, this belongs to our culture. There’s no commercial value to us. Village industry in this country needs to be promoted.”

The five key cow products — butter, milk, curd, urine and dung — are collectively known as panchgavya and are an important part of ayurvedic medicine.

The Goratna products, made by a cooperative in the cow-belt state of Uttar Pradesh, are rapidly gaining in popularity.

Singh already uses the detergent and is thinking of experimenting further.

“Once they use it, they are coming back and they are bringing their friends and their family and their neighbours back with them,” says Kumar.

“I’m tempted to try something for the hair – let’s hope,” he grins, running his fingers through his thinning crop.

Local libraries find many books urine-stained

Thursday, May 19, 2005
John Horton
Plain Dealer Reporter

Rows of urine-stained books have been found in two local libraries.

Workers discovered the soiled volumes on the shelves of Aurora Memorial Library in Portage County and Geauga West Library in Chester Township. Hundreds of books -- collectively valued at several thousand dollars -- had to be discarded, officials said.

Police in both communities are investigating.

"I can't even believe we're discussing something like this," said Linda Yanko, manager at Geauga West. "It's appalling and disgusting."

The problems at Geauga West started in January, Yanko said. About once a month since then, staff members have stumbled upon newly soiled areas within the collection. The most recent find occurred this week. There's no pattern to the vandalism.

Aurora's troubles began more than two years ago. Defiled books have been found sporadically ever since, said Pamela Hickson-Stevenson, director of the Portage County District Library.

The two libraries are about 13 miles apart. Officials said they do not know whether the incidents are related.

A plumber caught on camera relieving himself in a customer's loft has been found guilty of attempted deception.

Roy Williams, 46, from East Grinstead, Sussex, was captured urinating into a vase and pouring it into the water tank at a house in Leatherhead, Surrey.

He was filmed as part of an undercover operation by Surrey Trading Standards.

A jury at Guildford Crown Court found him guilty on three counts on Friday after he charged householders £173 for replacing valves that were not faulty.

Williams had told the court he became overcome by "bright lights and the sound of running water".

He claimed he had a medical condition dating back to his childhood which left him needing the toilet regularly.

Williams, who worked for Always Maintenance, was called in after trading standards officers rented the house for six months and rigged it with hidden cameras.

He was convicted of attempted deception, making false trades description and making a reckless statement.

He was released on conditional bail to be sentenced at a later date.

Pee-powered battery smaller than a credit card
18:10 15 August 2005
NewScientist.com news service
Shaoni Bhattacharya

The first urine-powered paper battery has been created by physicists in Singapore. The credit-card sized unit could be a useful power source for cheap healthcare test kits for diseases like diabetes, and could even be used in emergency situations to power a cellphone, they say.

Testing urine can reveal the identity of illnesses, and the new paper battery could allow the sample being tested to also power the diagnostic device.

“We are striving to develop cheap, disposable credit-card sized biochips for disease detection,” says Ki Bang Lee, at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore. “Our battery can be easily integrated into such devices, supplying electricity on contact with biofluids such as urine or blood.”

Current biochips need an external reader such as a laser scanner or an external source of power, such as conventional batteries, to perform diagnostic tests. Lee‘s technology houses both the sensors and the battery on one plastic chip.

One more drop
This design circumvents many of the problems encountered by researchers attempting to shrink down more conventional battery systems for use with bioMEMS – devices utilising bio-microelectromechanical systems.

“Many researchers have tried to design power sources or batteries for systems or bioMEMS devices. However, they have done this by reducing the size of conventional, bulky power systems or batteries,” explains Lee. “They faced a lot of problems,” including difficulties in getting sufficient electrical energy, he adds.

The urine-powered battery was able to generate a voltage of about 1.5 volts – with a corresponding power of 1.5 micro-watts – using just 0.2 millilitres of urine, says Lee. And if a second droplet of urine was added 15 hours after the battery was first activated, the replenished urine could generate still more electricity.

The battery is currently suited for use with disposable devices – it is not yet ready to power laptops or iPods. "But if, for example, we place a small cellular phone or transmitter on a plastic card, the chip will work as a disposable biofluid-activated means of communication in an emergency,” Lee told New Scientist. “In this case, the size will be less than that of a credit card.”

Wrapped sandwich
The battery is made of a layer of filter paper steeped in copper chloride, sandwiched between strips of magnesium and copper. This “sandwich” is then laminated in plastic to hold the whole package together. The resulting battery is just 1 millimetre thick and 60 by 30 mm across – slightly smaller than a credit card.

To activate the battery, a drop of urine is added and soaks through the sandwiched filter paper. The chemicals dissolve and react to produce electricity. The magnesium layer acts as the anode, losing its electrons. And the copper chloride acts as the cathode, mopping up the electrons.

But Lee adds that the voltage, current and capacity of the battery could be improved by different designs or by switching the electrode or electrolyte materials used.

He believes the system could be used in home-based health test kits. “The long-term goal is for people to be able to buy disposable biochips for a disease test from any pharmacy,” he says.

Felon suspect urinates on police officer; faces 15 years

November 14, 2008 • 9:10 am

By Diana Fasanella

A Wisconsin man faces more than 15 years in jail after allegedly driving drunk and then urinating on the police officer who arrested him.

Daniel L. Shilts of Sheboygan failed a field sobriety tests after being stopped by Plymouth police Wednesday at 2 a.m. for driving in the parking lane and striking a pole when he pulled into a gas station. He then nearly backed into the squad car before coming to a stop, the Sheboygan Press reported.

The 35-year-old Shilts was being transported to the police station after his arrest when he urinated in the back of the squad car and sprayed the officer in back of the head.

Shilts was charged with DWI and operating a vehicle under a revoked license, both misdemeanors, and a felony charge of discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker, as well as three felony counts of bail jumping tied to other pending felony cases.

Gérard Depardieu Relieves Himself in Plane Cabin: Report
By Tim Nudd

Oh, mon dieu.

Legendary French actor Gérard Depardieu caused quite a scene on an airplane Tuesday night by urinating in the cabin in front of his fellow passengers after the crew told him he had to wait to use the toilet, according to multiple reports.

The Golden Globe winner, 62, was on a CityJet flight from Paris to Dublin that was delayed on the tarmac when he asked to use the bathroom. After being told he had to wait until takeoff, he reportedly relieved himself in the aisle.

"I will only confirm that he, in effect, urinated in the plane," a spokeswoman for the Air France-KLM subsidiary told AFP.

The carrier joked about the incident on Twitter on Wednesday morning. "As you may have seen on the news, we are busy mopping the floor of one of our planes this morning," the airline wrote. "We'd also like to remind all passengers that our planes are fully equipped with toilet facilities."

After the incident, the plane had to return to the gate and was delayed for two more hours for cleaning. It was not clear whether any action would be taken against Depardieu.

This isn't the first episode of its kind this month. Teenage skier Robert "Sandy" Vietze was dismissed from the U.S. Ski Team's development squad last week after reportedly getting drunk and urinating in the cabin of a JetBlue flight from Portland, Ore., to New York.

Apart from the urinating in public charge, he could get done for flashing.
Depends on the laws that are applicable in-flight, I guess.

I suppose you could put it down to artistic temperament. Or the massive amount of wine he consumes.

Urine trouble now, delivery company...

A movie theatre in the north-western US state of Washington had to be evacuated after it took delivery of a package of human urine.

The package marked "highly contagious human substance" was delivered in error to the North Bend Theater, in the city of the same name on Friday evening.

After about an hour, the substance was determined to be urine and was disposed of, CNN reported.

The package was intended for a medical clinic.

Mexico City transit authorities have cited urine as one of the top 5 causes of subway escalator breakdowns. :wide:
Mexico City subway says pee causes escalator breakdowns

Travelers on the Mexico City subway system often blame authorities for broken-down escalators at subway stops, but Metro officials have another explanation: vast amounts of pee.

Somehow, urine is penetrating and corroding the drive wheels and mechanisms of the escalators that carry riders up from underground stations.

In a list published Tuesday, the Metro system listed “corrosion due to urine” as one of the top five causes of escalator breakdowns.

Fermin Ramirez, the system’s assistant manager for rails and facilities, said riders appear to be urinating on escalators at off-peak hours and lightly used stations, “even though it seems hard to believe.”

“When we open up escalators for maintenance, there is always urine,” Ramirez said. Most stations have no public bathroom facilities, a fact Twitter users were quick to point out, noting there are not even any pay toilets.

Of the system’s 467 escalators, 22 are out of service on any given day.

The biggest problem, subway authorities admit, is that the many escalators are old, or have been damaged by rough use.

The city plans to replace about 55 escalators over the next two years. ...

They plan to replace 55 escalators, have they not listened?, build some toilets

Yup, it's men 'discreetly' peeing on the escalators as they move along. Men won't put up with having to do without a proper toilet in the way women will.
Women shouldn't, of course, HAVE to put up with a lack of toilets anyway but for various reasons (which I will happily go into at length if required) they have to manage.
