Strange Crimes

If you were wondering about the Australian man charged with spoonfeeding an 18-year-old woman yoghurt as mentioned in the latest FT, here's more info:
Yoghurt attack

But not very much more. There was inappropriate touching involved, which sounds a lot more illegal. Strange detail: she was invited back to his place (he's 41) and agreed to go.

Man casually / blatantly steals giant-size penis from sex shop that valued it at almost 3.5 times its list price on Amazon ...
Man steals 3-foot-tall, 40-pound dildo from Las Vegas sex shop

A hardened crook pulled off a cockamamie crime — by swiping a giant dildo from a Las Vegas sex shop ...

The masked man was captured on video as he strode into the Déjà Vu Love Boutique in Sin City on July 14 and grabbed the massive 3-foot-tall, 40-pound member standing on the sales floor ...

He got it up over his right shoulder and nonchalantly left the premises, crammed the dildo into his vehicle and drove off.

“Sadly, the pandemic has encouraged even the scummiest of scumbags to steal the strangest products from innocent businesses,” staffer Ryan Carlson told The Post.

“This landmark item in our store is worth nearly $2,000, so if you happen to see a 3-foot penis sitting around, please turn in the 6-foot-tall dick who stole it. We can only hope that this thief finds Jesus and returns the item or the law finds him and throws him in prison where he belongs!”

Another store worker, Laura, who declined to give her last name, told HuffPost that the formidable phallus is named The Moby, presumably in homage to Herman Melville’s classic “Moby-Dick.” ...

It’s a steal on Amazon, where it’s listed at $586 as “the world’s largest retail dildo.” ...

An odd type of scam.

Chinese students in Sydney are being targeted in a kidnapping scam forcing them to pay massive ransoms to fraudsters, Australian police say.

In many cases, blackmailed students were forced to stage their own kidnapping and send video proof to relatives in China to obtain funds. Eight "virtual kidnappings" have been reported this year, including one where a A$2m (£1.1m;$1.43m) ransom was paid. Victims had believed they or their loved ones were in danger, police said.

New South Wales (NSW) Police said the scheme had "really increased in frequency throughout 2020" and was operating on an "industrial scale". They have urged students to immediately report any threatening calls they receive.

Well one of the weirder criminal cases, I mean, presumably criminal anyways, was the Vintem Hill masks.
It's presumably a weird robbery, but know one has any idea who or why.

It was a inter-spouse altercation resulting in a domestic assault charge, so I'm putting this in Strange Crimes ...

Their fight had apparently concluded, then the whole sad incident was "sealed with a piss" ...
Florida woman accused of urinating on husband after fight

A fight at sea led to a woman opening up a hatch on their boat and urinating on her husband who was asleep in the cabin below, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were called to Rooker Island, located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Tarpon Springs, around 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

The victim said he and his wife, 48-year-old Heather Smith, were on their cabin cruiser boat when they got into an argument for an unknown reason.

Then, as the man was sleeping, Smith opened the front port hatch that’s located above the boat’s interior cabin and urinated on her husband down below, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said Smith bit the victim on the stomach after she urinated on him, as evidenced by his injuries.

Smith was arrested on a domestic battery charge.

I'm not sure that even a soap opera writer blown away on meth could have conceived this storyline ...

From the article:

The reports include claims she wanted to kill her husband because she thought divorce ungodly, leaving her with no choice.
“What am I supposed to do? I can’t separate from him because that would scandalise the name of God,” she allegedly said in a message to one of her children.
Police reportedly believe that in the hours before Mr Do Carmo’s shooting, he and Flordelis visited a swingers club in the Rio neighbourhood of Botafogo.

Very clear and clinical and you sense that even then, he was retelling the retelling - wonder how much he really recalls now of the actual event?

I think he'll be banged up at least til Yoko goes.

The Larry King interview with Julian right after, is very moving. And interesting to hear it from his perspective. I love how protective he was of Cynthia.

I'd like to think there's more to this story ...
Pedestrian shot to death, apparently for crossing road too slowly

He was shot dead because he was taking too long to cross the street. That’s the shocking motive a south Alabama police department says it’s found as part of a homicide investigation.

The victim, 29-year-old Johnarian Travez Allen, was shot eight times around 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Union Springs, a small town in Bullock County about 45 miles southeast of Montgomery. ...

Police responded to the scene at a gas station on Underwood Avenue. The shooter, later identified as Jeremiah Wesley Penn, 22, had already fled but law enforcement says he quickly sought out a sheriff’s deputy friend to whom he turned himself in.

That’s when Penn confessed, according to Union Springs Police Chief Danny Jackson. ...

Police determined Allen had gone to a store to purchase food but as he was walking across the road, the suspect apparently drove up and felt he wasn’t moving out of the roadway fast enough.

That’s when authorities say Penn got out of his vehicle and fired multiple shot, killing the man.

Penn is being held on a capital murder charge in the Bullock County Jail.

Some drivers become irrationally irate about being held up by pedestrians.

When my sister was driving a minibus I'd sometimes spot her vehicle in time to dart over to the crossing in front of it, then stroll across as slowly as possible, staring insolently up at her. :bananas:

She'd pretend to be really furious and her passengers would be harrumphing along, while I'd stop to scratch my ear or pretend to stick my gum to the minibus radiator.

Dunno how we didn't give someone a conniption and kill them off. :evillaugh:

Back in London, given our knowledge of Wirecard’s surveillance capabilities, it was decided I would spend the next three months in a small windowless office by the FT’s main newsroom, working on a so-called air-gapped computer, off-grid. I pored over the documents, avoiding meetings. We’d got into the habit of not invoking “the company” by name — much like Voldemort in Harry Potter — just to be on the safe side. The whole project was codenamed “Ahab”, after Peter Spiegel, then the FT’s news editor, took inspiration from Moby-Dick and started referring to Wirecard as my white whale.

Vanesa Gesto accused former boyfriend Ivan Rico of kidnapping her outside her home and later abandoning her while semi-naked after squeezing the superglue into her private parts.

Her story began to unravel when investigators uncovered CCTV footage from a Chinese-run supermarket showing Gesto buying the glue and a ‘kidnap kit’ including knives she used to harm herself.

Rico, 36, spent several days on remand in prison before the shameful attempts by Gesto, who was dubbed the ‘Glue Liar’ in Spain where the crime took place, became apparent.

A court in the northern Spanish city of Leon convicted her of two counts of making up a crime and jailed her for 10 years.

She was also ordered to pay her ex 25,000 Euros (about £22,250) in compensation.

Dismembered Body Parts Found In Suitcases That [Illinois] Police Say Man Hauled All The Way From Kentucky

In a gruesome and horrific discovery, body parts were found inside suitcases in south suburban Markham on Tuesday.

Police said the body parts were hauled all the way from Kentucky on a Greyhound bus, and the family of the man who came with them had no idea.

Police said the man boarded a Greyhound bus in Louisville, Kentucky, traveling more than five hours with the body parts to the Chicago Greyhound station.

His family picked him up and brought him – and those bags – to the house in Markham.

“There were some early reports of a foul odor coming from the bags,” White said.

On Tuesday morning, the man left the house, leaving the suitcases behind. At that point, family members finally opened one suitcase.

“A human body part was discovered,” White said. “They immediately backed away and called police.”

Police found several chopped-up body parts of one woman – the result of a crime they believe happened in Kentucky, but unraveled in Markham.

Chief White insisted the family did not realize what was in the bags. But after a few days, it became odd when the man never unpacked – but kept guarding the suitcases.

Cowcaine

A customer buying cocaine from the son of a Cork County Councillor offered to milk cows in exchange for the drugs.

Barry Coleman, 30, and son of Independent Cllr Alan Coleman, was given a 10-month jail sentence for the sale and supply of cocaine, with Bandon District Court hearing that some customers collected the drug at his farmyard and dropped the money there in exchange.

Mr Coleman, of Ballinacourtha, Belogooly in Co Cork and a dairy farmer, had already pleaded guilty and a probation report had been requested.

However, when it came to determining penalty Judge James McNulty noted what he called "inconsistencies" between some of what was contained in the report by the Probation Service, and the evidence of investigating gardaí.

It resulted in Det Garda Colin O'Mahony giving details of how Mr Coleman was found at Cois Bruach, Curra in Riverstick on April 5 last year with three bags of cocaine and €230 in cash, and also of the string of text messages found on a black iphone which indicated the extent to which he was supplying drugs to others. ...

Former stock trader Ross McCarty jailed for robbing banks after 'getting boozed' during lunchbreak

A former stock trader who drunkenly robbed Sydney banks more than four decades ago has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail. ...

Ross McCarty, now 71, admitted to police he had a double life in which he would "get boozed at lunch time" for the hold ups in 1977 and 1978.

Using a water pistol and disguises including fake moustaches and sunglasses, McCarty wrote his demands for cash on withdrawal slips handed to tellers.

He wasn't arrested until 2018 when the case was reopened and fingerprint analysis on the notes turned up a match in the police database.

District Court Judge Sarah Huggett on Friday said McCarty committed the crimes as an "intelligent and educated" man in his late 20s, with both planning and purpose.

"They were deliberate, intended and motivated by financial gain."

She sentenced McCarty to a total term of three-and-a-half years with a non-parole period of one year and nine months. ...

McCarty owed significant debts to illegal gambling clubs in Sydney at the time and when he failed to pay up, thugs visited his office, threatened him with violence and warned him they knew where his wife lived. ...

The court heard McCarty's gambling went hand in hand with alcoholism, but he had not had a drink or placed a bet in over 30 years. ...
