Kids Today

A tad bizarre.

A group of teenagers entered a hospital in Naples and forced staff to drive an ambulance to a nearby neighbourhood to attend a boy suffering a minor knee sprain, Italian doctors say.

The boys targeted an emergency ward in the city centre to demand their friend be collected for urgent treatment. The incident on Sunday was reported on a Facebook page established by doctors to highlight violence against staff. It is not clear if the teenagers had initially tried to call an ambulance.

"A group of boys entered the emergency room and took the crew by force... to board the ambulance," the Facebook post by the group Nobody Touches Hippocrates reads.

"The vehicle arrived at the location and was immediately surrounded by a group of angry bystanders. Fearing the worst, the [doctors] made their way through the crowd and, to their surprise, found a 16-year-old boy with a knee sprain."

According to the Facebook report (in Italian), the ambulance staff explained to those at the scene that the boy's injury was not serious, but were then threatened again for refusing to transport him to hospital.

There's probably more to the story than this. Naples is famous for its local Mafia - the Camorra - and one wonders whether some of the youths might be 'connected'. In that case it would be a good idea to placate them.

UHP: 5-year-old boy driving his parents’ car on the freeway pulled over, tells troopers he was going to California to buy a Lamborghini

According to troopers with the Utah Highway Patrol a 5-year-old boy was pulled over driving his parents’ car on the freeway Monday.

UHP said a trooper in Weber County initiated a traffic stop on what he thought was an impaired driver. Turns out it was a young man, age 5, troopers added.

UHP said he told troopers he left home after an argument with his mom, in which she told him she would not buy him a Lamborghini. He decided he’d take the car and go to California to buy one himself. Troopers said he might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 dollars in his wallet. ...

That'll teach her. If she'd have just bought him his own Lamborghini he wouldn't have stolen her car in the first place! :D

Wait till he grows up

Here's an update on the story ... I'm not sure whether the little good deed demonstration by a local Lamborghini owner will end up teaching the boy a lesson or encourage him even more.

I was thinking the same thing. He's huge.

"Kids! / I don't know what's wrong with these kids today
Kids! / You can talk and talk till' your face is blue
Kids! / But they still do just what they want to do
Why can't they be like we were? / Perfect in every way
What's the matter with kids today?!"

He’ll need a new clutch, trying to accelerate with Jumbo and Dumbo as ballast.

I was wondering how someone so young could see over the steering wheel...

...I think we know now

It's always suprising how much weight affects (at least my) perception of age.

That boy is five, but if you'd asked me to guess without knowing, I'd have probably said four years older than that.

My daughter and all her friends are five; none of them has hands like his.

(Edit: not intended to be a 'fat = disgusting' post')

I was just so shocked, seriously, i was expecting a small child, like Kondoru, i wondered how he could see over the steering wheel.

Two young children die in fatal car crash after taking grandparents' car out for a ride

A 7-year-old boy and his 6-year-old brother were killed in a fatal car crash after they took their grandparents' car out for a ride, authorities said.

The car, which was a 2007 Buick LaCrosse, was totaled and the children were pronounced dead at the scene Friday, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy Bell told CNN.

The siblings were driving on a road in Jackson County, east of Kansas City. At some point, the car traveled off the right side of the road and struck the ground becoming airborne, the highway patrol said.

The vehicle struck a guardrail before hitting the ground again and becoming airborne for a second time.

The vehicle then struck a guy-wire -- a tensioned cable that is designed to add stability to a freestanding structure -- began to overturn, struck a tree and then came to rest off the road on its top before catching fire.
The children were not wearing seat belts. ...

Minors were caught gambling and getting served alcohol at an Australian casino ...
A 12-year-old girl was caught on camera gambling at an Australian casino

A 12-year-old girl was among three minors caught gambling at a casino in Sydney, Australia, regulators said Saturday.

According to Liquor & Gaming New South Wales (NSW), the state regulator, The Star Sydney -- among the largest casinos in the country -- has been fined about $64,500 (90,000 Australian dollars) for that instance as well as two other cases of minors gambling and being served alcohol.

Surveillance footage released by the regulator showed the pre-teen being sneaked into the casino by her mother, who held an exit door open for her to avoid security. She could then be seen gambling alongside both her parents for 17 minutes -- placing almost two dozen bets on several poker machines, known in Australia as "pokies."

"It's quite staggering that the young girl's parents facilitated her entry in such a deceptive manner, let alone allowed their daughter to gamble," NSW Independent Liquor & Authority Chair Philip Crawford said in a statement. ...

Recently had a brief phone conversation with my wee granddaughter and just had enough time to end by asking what she wants for Christmas.

"An iPad and a chapter book".

So, checked the iPad options and searched for a 'chapter book', which I presumed to be some kind of similar tablet device.

Couldn't find anything related and guessed it must be connected with school work, as she's started using an iPad in class.

Spoke to her again last night and explained I was unable to find a 'chapter book' online. Could she explain a little more about this device.

And was indeed duly clarifed...

"It's a book with chapters instead of pictures...".

I think this may be current U.S. usage.

They may still have illustrations, but they're chiefly text like a 'grown-up' book.

Really! I shall check this out with little technowiz later today. This would make sense, as it's a description I had never heard used and completely threw me off!

I use that phrase because she@9-y-o has taken the following photograph, added shown text and sent it to myself via twitter:

Asked my son did he knew anything about it and he was oblivious. Also enquired if his daughter knew the unexpected offspring (we had been assured the two parent mice were both males!) would likely need be offered to local animal welfare society (or, maybe pet shop).

Son assured that daughter had brought this up already and her compromise indication was both clear and concise...

"Don't even think about it...".

"It's a book with chapters instead of pictures...".

I'm not familiar with the label, but here's what Wikipedia says about it:

A chapter book or chapterbook is a story book intended for intermediate readers, generally age 7–10. Unlike picture books for beginning readers, a chapter book tells the story primarily through prose, rather than pictures. Unlike books for advanced readers, chapter books contain plentiful illustrations. The name refers to the fact that the stories are usually divided into short chapters, which provide readers with opportunities to stop and resume reading if their attention spans are not long enough to finish the book in one sitting. Chapter books are usually works of fiction of moderate length and complexity.

That's so great, that she wants a book.
These days kids can read whatever they want on tablets etc. and probably choose to play games instead.

50-odd years ago when I was a kid one of my school reports said I was LAZY because I preferred to read a book over doing anything else.
How times change!

Its new to me too.

But surley someone at 9 would be already reading such books?

(I didnt learn to read until I was 10 or 11...)

Mind-boggling stupidity.

Gardaí have repeated their warnings for young people not to participate in a dangerous Tik Tok challenge called 'ghosting'.

The trend sees people lying on a road with a sheet placed over them in an attempt to stop oncoming traffic. A teenage girl in the Munster region of the country was injured while taking part in the challenge last Saturday. The teenager received injuries to her back, torso, and ankle and was admitted to hospital for a number of days.

Inspector Alan Cullen of Henry Street Garda Station in Co Limerick said the girl is lucky to be alive and had "a very luck escape". Speaking to Patricia Messinger on C103's Cork Today Show, Inspector Cullen said it is "nothing short of miraculous that she wasn't killed."

"The young lady in question had a very lucky escape on Saturday evening last in the sense that she didn't time her exit very well and wound up being struck by the car.

A friend rang me today and was telling me about her 4 yr old grandson.
She said that he's a deep thinker and came out with this the other day.
He said that he'd been talking to his Grandma Claudine and she told him that she's now in the universe and that everything would be ok.
She had died when he was 4 months old and they didn't know he even knew her name.

Another friend has had her granddaughter staying for a few days.
She rang today to say that her granddaughter told her she used to see someone she thought was a ghost.
My friend asked her about it and she said that it was a woman with a baby and her name was Lily but she didn't know who it was.
My friend told her she knew exactly who it was, it was her own grandmother who had lost a baby boy after she had her own Mother.
so that would have been her great great grandmother.
