Oops! The Silly Mistakes Thread

This reunion could have gone badly, but luckily it all worked out.

Hopefully helpful hint ... When you're meeting the biological father you never knew for the very first time, and you're wearing a costume to set the reunion scene with reference to a popular movie ... It helps if the father has seen the movie or otherwise recognizes the gag.

Yup, it all fell a bit flat didn't it! :chuckle:

I see that ITV's celebrity Mr Smug - Eamon Holmes has started doing adverts for equity release.

Take a look at this video and, is it just me, or does his statement at the 27 second mark sound weird to you?

Your spoilered query is standard practice with that type of loan. Obviously, someone else will have to do the actual handing over of the cash, but it comes out of the deceased's estate, so they are paying, in a sense.

Police respond to apparent store robbery, but find a music video being filmed ...
Police respond to ‘break-in,’ find music video shoot instead

Police in South Florida descended on what they thought was an armed break-in at a men’s clothing store Tuesday morning after people were spotted storming in with rifles — but officers arrived to find a music video filming, all with the store owners’ knowledge.

The guns were not real and the men holding them were actors in a video, said Amanda Conwell, a spokeswoman for the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

The music video was being filmed inside the men’s clothing and accessories store with a film crew while the larger shopping center was closed, The Miami Herald reported, citing a store manager. ...

But a witness saw the events unfolding, and not knowing it was staged, called police, authorities said. The scene being filmed depicted two men with guns entering the store and demanding workers to put money in the bag ...

Those involved were not charged because they had permission to be in the store and did not display the fake guns in a threatening manner, Conwell said. ...

A Nepali airline flight eventually brought its passengers to the intended destination - after first flying them to a different airport 250 miles away.
Nepali airline Buddha Air flies passengers to the wrong airport

Nepali airline Buddha Air made a blunder recently when it flew passengers to the wrong airport.
The domestic airline departed from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport on December 18.

From there it flew northwest to the country's second-biggest city of Pokhara, instead of going southeast to the flight's intended destination, the southern city of Janakpur. The two cities are about 250 miles apart.

Astha Basnet, executive officer at Buddha Air, tells CNN Travel that the mix-up was due to two factors: "lapses in communication and failure to follow detailed standard operating procedures (SOP)."

In simpler terms, it was just a mix-up. ...

Due to weather conditions, many Nepali airports open later in the day during the winter. Because of that abbreviated window, it's not unusual for multiple flights to leave in a short amount of time, and evidently that led to confusion.

Still, despite the surprise that passengers must have gotten when they pulled into the wrong airport, the situation reportedly went relatively smoothly. Once Buddha Air became aware of what happened, they had the pilots take the passengers on to Janakpur as planned. ...

Basnet confirms that the airline crew will receive additional training following the flight mix-up and that the airline has modified its existing flight manuals.

While these kinds of airplane errors do happen, they are fairly rare. In 2019, a British Airways flight from London City Airport that was intended to arrive in Dusseldorf accidentally went to Edinburgh due to an incorrect flight plan being filed. ...

This German pensioner's senior moment screw-up cost him tens of thousands of euros back in November 2019.
German man forgets €20,000 cash on car roof

It is easy to lose things in a moment of absent-mindedness — car keys, glasses, our cell phones. In Germany, carrying large amounts of cash is not uncommon, but one pensioner made a costly mistake. ...

A German pensioner lost tens of thousands of euros at the weekend after leaving it on the roof of his car in a moment of forgetfulness.

The 69-year-old man withdrew €20,000 ($22,000) from a bank in Witten, North Rhine-Westphalia, at about 3.40 p.m (14.40 UTC) on Friday, Bochum police said in a statement released on Tuesday.

He placed the money in an envelope and then put it on the roof of his car before pulling off.

The man realized his mistake as he got out of his car a short while later in Annen — to find the envelope with the cash had blown off.

The man, who has difficulty walking, had intended to buy a new car with the money.

The police are asking for anyone who may have found the envelope with the cash to hand it in to the police station. ...

A different kind of 'severed foot mystery' ...
Police find reported 'severed foot' was mannequin part

A Canadian police officer investigating a witness' report of a severed foot at the side of a road made a considerably less alarming discovery -- a discarded mannequin foot.

The Delta Police Department in British Columbia said an officer on foot in Ladner was stopped by a passing driver. ...

"The driver appears quite distraught and states that there is a severed foot roadside by the pump house," the department said in a Facebook post.

The post said the officer went to the location and discovered the object was "luckily" not a human body part, but rather "the foot of a mannequin."

"If you happen upon a mannequin with a missing left foot, let them know that it can be found at the Delta Police Department," the post said.

Putting your foot in it.

A suspected human foot buried in a muddy field turned out to be a potato after a "large-scale" police search.

A dog walker in Gateshead sent officers a photograph of what appeared to be a toe poking out of the soil. But after carrying out the search in the dark with specialist dogs, officers discovered it was a potato with a mushroom growing next to it. Police praised the woman for her "vigilance" and said the call had been made in "good faith".

Northumbria Police said the photograph, sent on Tuesday when the woman had returned home from her walk in the Winlaton area, "did show what appeared to be a human foot". ...

cops sold dad $500 first car for his foster son with $300,000 of heroin still inside

Rick Joyner bought the Ford Taurus for $500 on a government auction site earlier this month. He knew it had been confiscated during a drugs seizure before buying it as a cheap first car for his foster son Tyrese Allen.

The cautious dad, from Madison County in Alabama, traveled to Nashville in Tennessee to pick the car up with Tyrese, and even asked officials who handed it over if they’d used a sniffer dog on it.

They answered: ‘Nah, we got it all, don’t worry about it,’ before adding: ‘Whatever is in there, it’s yours.’ It was only when Rick and Tyrese got back to Alabama and opened the trunk that they discovered the Ford’s illicit extras.

He called out deputies from Madison County Sheriff’s Office, who informed the stunned foster dad that the package contained two kilos of heroin, with a street value of $300,000. They confiscated the deadly drug – and thanked Rick for his honesty.

Rick, who buys all his foster kids a first car when they are old enough, says he and Tyrese have been able to see the funny side of the bizarre incident.

Tyrese told WKRG: ‘I’ll probably remember this for the rest of my life just because it was so unexpected it was just like a regular day and then out of nowhere, we find two kilos of heroin in our trunk.’

Woman finds what she thought was popping candy in the sweets section. It was actually fireworks, and popping some into her mouth caused injury.
Woman left with harrowing burns after eating fireworks she mistook for popping candy

A mum who ate miniature FIREWORKS after mistaking them for popping candy has been left with harrowing injuries.

Warwickshire mum Lisa Boothroyd ate the mini fireworks when she thought they were confectionery.

The 48-year-old found the box of Fun Snaps in Costcutter among lollipops, she said.

But she was left with chemical burns after throwing them into her mouth.

The explosive devices burst in her mouth - leaving her in agony, with a cracked tooth and burns to her lip and mouth. ...

“The ‘fun snaps’ were with all the other sweets, and the packaging was similar, so it was an easy mistake to make.

“I just keep thinking what could have happened if I’d given them to a child - they could’ve blown her mouth apart."

The box reads 'Fun Snaps' along with 'Snap! Crack! Bang!' - which led her to assume it was popping candy. ...

I'm imagining how disappointed the kids are with the pack of popping candy that they think are fireworks.

The thing is, unless you have lived under a rock for the past 30 years, you would know what 'fun snaps' are. They are quite obviously not sweets.
Once you open the pack they are usually stored in a little bit of sawdust, and each individual one is a tadpole shaped 'wrap' of white paper containing some grains of stuff which detonates itself in a 'snap' sound when you throw it at something hard, like a floor or wall.
And you certainly wouldn't describe them as 'fireworks'.

There is absolutely no way you could mistake it for 'popping candy' unless you're an idiot.
I smell a rat with this article - it sounds like the sort of thing falsified to either attempt to get compensation for the woman, or for more circulation for the Birmingham Mail.

Here's the problem then. :chuckle:

Or, more likely, as you say -

I smell a rat with this article - it sounds like the sort of thing falsified to either attempt to get compensation for the woman, or for more circulation for the Birmingham Mail.

:sherlock:

As with the batteries in the kiddies' chocolate flap of a few years ago. ;)

When I found one of those fun snaps in my teenage son's jeans pocket on washing day I rang his mate's mother to ask if she'd come across these dangerous drugs too. She laughed me out of the place.

To be fair - it was a quite realistic rendering ... (Photo at the link below)
Firefighters attempting goose rescue in Michigan find hunting decoy

Firefighters in Michigan said an attempted goose rescue on a frozen river turned out to be the proverbial wild goose chase when the suspected injured bird turned out to be a hunting decoy.

The Monroe Township Fire Department said firefighters responded Tuesday to a report of an injured goose on the River Raisin, near Waterloo Park. ...

Photos posted to Facebook by firefighter Austin Schmitt shows firefighters in rescue gear venturing out on the ice to reach what they believed to be a bird in distress.

Sort of idiots who would lose their shirt on the stock market

A society promoting legendary outlaw Robin Hood has seen a huge surge in its social media following from people confusing it with the US stock trading platform Robinhood.

The World Wide Robin Hood Society promotes the tales of the hero and his connections with Nottinghamshire. More than 33,000 people began following the group on Twitter in 24 hours.

It comes as the trading platform with the same name curbed buying of shares in US electronics shop GameStop. Robinhood hit the headlines for restricting the firm's trading shares, causing outrage among Americans buying the company's stock with the aim of pushing up the price.

If one of them can manage to get their head off the others can stick it over the round white bit, it may just fit, worth a try :p

Chucky (yes - that Chucky ... ) was the object of an Amber Alert (child abduction warning) in Texas.
AMBER ALERT MALFUNCTION
'CHILD'S PLAY' DOLLS ON THE LOOSE
... Hi Texas, Wanna Play???

Chucky abducted his son and is on the run while wielding a huge kitchen knife ... is what some Texans were led to believe after a faulty Amber Alert was released.

The Texas Department of Safety accidentally sent out the alert Friday morning ... featuring the "Child's Play" horror series character and his "Seed of Chucky" son, Glen Ray.

The Amber Alert blared this out ... the "Abducted Child" Glen -- all 2'3" of him -- was last seen Thursday morning in Henderson ... and the 28-year-old "Suspect" Chucky was wearing blue denim overalls and was carrying a knife.

Clearly ... it was just a horrific mistake. ...

The Texas DPS tells TMZ ... "This alert is a result of a test malfunction. We apologize for the confusion this may have caused and are diligently working to ensure this does not happen again." ...

Another shagging on Zoom story. In this one it was a lawyer during a virtual court hearing in Peru.

Hector Paredes Robles was branded a disgrace to his profession by the judge presiding over the virtual hearing after launching into his X-rated performance while his camera was on.

Extraordinary footage showed him stripping off and sitting on his chair so a naked woman could straddle him as astonished court officials and other lawyers looked on in Peru.

Judge John Chahua Torres summonsed a police officer as a female aide tried to alert Paredes Robles his sex session was being watched and recorded on a public live feed.

The surreal sequence of events occurred on Tuesday during a virtual remand hearing organised by a court in Pichanaki in the central Peruvian region of Junin.

Last night the lawyer was barred from any more involvement in the ongoing case.

He was also told he would face two separate probes, one by state prosecutors and another by his local bar association.

I always wonder why people who are that stupid and unaware get paid so much.

I haven't been. Am I missing something? I'm always so slow to catch on to the latest cool trend. Darn!

Fun snaps are not fireworks...they are not even particularly flammable. (though they do spark)

And I doubt they are good to eat.
