Who Are Psychics Talking To?

That's what I wanted to know. It appears that the message was little more than 'I'm here'. These messages from beyond usually carry very little
informational content. The location of the key to a hidden safe deposit would be much more useful.

It seems to me if you believe in the whole semi-Christian concept of the afterlife with devils, Hell, Demons etc. that pretending to be lost loved ones to gullible people would be high up on a teenaged demon's idea of fun.

I believe that is a viewpoint shared by many in the Abrahamic faiths.

What do you think of him? It seems a lot of folks are undecided..
Dodging the question a little bit, I know Peter obviously did a lot of research on the guy and whilst he thinks that some of the stuff was faked he thinks he may have shown some genuine psychic abilities. For me I think I’m in the undecided camp, I’m not willing to dismiss him.

That's where I am at too... I think a lot of it could have been real. If not, he would be one of the best magicians of all time I think.

The trance aspect of the phenomenon is interesting --common to many mediums and yogis too, who are purportedly able to produce these effects. Home claimed his abilities were due to friendly spirits not his innate mental abilities, iirc.

I may dig out the book again and have a reread. I haven’t read it since it first came out, and Peter gave a talk on it to EdFort and UnCon.

So when a psychic says they are talking to somebody, what are they talking to, and where are they? (this is assuming you are talking to a real psychic, as opposed to a complete fake)

For example, when a psychic says they are talking to a spirit, is this spirit manifest somewhere close and the psychic is hearing it's voice via their ear?

Or is the spirit of the dead in heaven (or hades) and they connect mentally? Or are they just somewhere else on the planet? Or are they all just non-human "spirit entities"?

Are only the recent dead contactable? Or could we talk to Julius Caesar if we wanted to?

Any opinions/first hand experiences?

I guess I'm just trying to make sense of it....
Two ways i know of . One it's Necromantic they speak to the dead, the other is that they speak to Spirit Guide on the Astral Plane. Sometimes they look at stuff and see patterns that could be formed by this being.

On weekends, as a young Sasquatch...
Far be it for myself to say that many had questioned this... :chuckle:

When courting, about 16 years old, my new girlfriend had an elderly aunt who was, 'blessed with the gift'.

My girlfriend had never yet been to my house and had just visited her aunt, who described my bedroom, including posters on the wall, one of which her aunt claimed featured Chinese artwork.

Every detail was precisely accurate and I did have such a poster.

Her aunt also said something which seemed to make little sense - I would be wearing a watch with a coloured face, on the inside of my wrist.

I had just bought a watch with a blue face and for no particular reason, decided to do just that - turn the face 'around'.

Perhaps something innocent and genuine is lost admidst the abundance of frauds...?

Exactly this.
Perhaps we could say precisely the same about many Fortean subjects - especially nowadays and particularly purported video evidence of ghosts and poltergeists.

Historically, supposed photographs of 'flying saucers' are lamentably rife with this, as in more recent years with 'triangular UFOs'.

Nonetheless, we 'soldier on, fighting the good fight'... :)

But what use is that kind of gift? Being warned of possible car accidents or that one of your relatives may have an illness that has yet to manifest, yes. Being able to describe a bedroom? Not so much useful about that, unless said elderly aunt was a house makeover specialist. 'Tell him he's got to get rid of that Chinest poster, it clashes with the curtains.'

And assuming it is really a thing, does it not suggest that it's 'just' accessing information that's already out there (so it doesn't need to be whispered by departed souls or whatever, who somehow know things that the rest of humanity are not party to)? Or is it that the gifted relative was accessing things that the future girlfriend would herself one day know? (yeah, somehow. I don't know).

I was watching Jacques Vallee yesterday and he was saying something about how some physicists think Information might be the thing that sorts out the whole Theory of Everything problem (someone suggesting that the dark matter problem is caught up in that). Hardly something I'm going to sort out in my tea break. But I was intrigued. Trouble is, is it even possible to explain such theories to mere mortals such as myself without going into many incomprehensible equations - probably not.

obviously I could be heavily confused here and I'm sure you'll tell me:)

I take exception to this - nothing could clash with my lovely curtains at that time...

That was such an interesting question I phoned Anne, the lady in question and we spent 30 minutes taking about this.

We subsequently married, have two, now grown-up, children and although since divorced, remain close friends (one the kids become adults and our 'job was done', we simply agreed both of us would benefit from having our 'own space'!).

I had forgotten, among other things her aunt said was that Anne had a piano (which was correct) and she should keep it, because her first child would be a girl and very musical.

Our first child, Donna, graduated from university with a BA in Music.

Who knows... :D

This is one of those things where you don't know which way round it actually worked. They kept the piano SO Donna grew up playing and therefore had more interest in music perhaps than she would had there not been a piano in the house?

My children were all musical. We didn't have a piano or any musical instruments in the house, so, although two of them took music GCSE, they didn't study it any further and didn't really practice at home because we didn't have a 'culture' of music in the home.

But I did know my first would be a boy and my second a girl. I knew the boy would be brown eyed and left handed too. I knew number three would be quieter than the others (she was), but after that it all fell apart with the 'knowing'. Four and five were complete mysteries.

We never kept the piano and her speciality whilst studying was percussion! :D

She is now a highly regarded drum teacher and session musician.

Goodness me... I was looking at this photograph at the weekend. It's Donna with Vinnie Paul, the drummer from Pantera and taken just before his untimely death...

'Gifts' aren't always useful. Most natural artists, dancers and musicians don't make a living from their talents. Only the most dedicated sportspeople bag the medals.
I could drone on all day, which is one of MY talents. ;)

It's not really a 'gift' then, is it? Or, it's the kind you get from your elderly auntie, that's an awful colour, two sizes too small and with zips in unexpected places.
