Found & Recovered Bodies (In General; Misc.)

I call fake.

We all know in prehistoric times they rode racers and not mountain bikes.

Mountain bikes did not come in until Roman times, and in many areas, not until the sub-Roman

Indeed. It is my understanding that prehistoric tribes initially utilised bicycles with “cow horn” handlebars before they moved onto the more stereotypical “racer” type! In addition, clickerty clacker spoke accessories also weren’t in general usage until much later, typically in the early to middle Roman era.

And I understood that the unicycle came in with the Normans...

Yes, and was in common use amongst the Norman upper classes of the time...... however their military “Battle unicycle” was an abject failure!

I'm not sure this incident will end up being called an accident. A search was initiated soon thereafter. The motorcycle and the man's body were discovered 456 feet below the canyon rim near the trailhead to a hiking and mule trail leading downward into the canyon.

Sounds like the poor man wanted to go out in style.

Like a motorcycle stunt ride, only straight over the edge? That occurred to me too. We'll never know.
That's what I thought, from where and how the body was found. One last moment of utter freedom.

They will finally get a proper burial.

Dutch salvage workers have found some bone fragments and scraps of airmen's clothing in the debris of an RAF Wellington bomber shot down over the Netherlands in June 1941.

The Wellington had a six-man Czech crew, five of whom died. It was downed by a German night fighter, crashing at Nieuwe Niedorp, a village about 60km (37 miles) north of Amsterdam. It had been bombing the port of Bremen. The dig is part of a wider Dutch project to find wartime crews' remains.

A week ago the Czech Ambassador to the Netherlands, Katerina Sequensova, visited the site, where recovery work began on 25 May. Civil engineers and the Dutch defence ministry are involved, including military forensic identification specialists.

In World War Two the RAF's 311 (Czechoslovak) Squadron had airmen who had fled Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and had then had combat experience in Poland or France. It was based at RAF East Wretham, near Thetford in Norfolk. ...

The Wellington's pilot, Flight Sgt Vilem Bufka, parachuted out of the burning plane, broke a leg on landing and was captured by the Germans. He was imprisoned in Colditz Castle, with many other Royal Air Force POWs, and returned to Czechoslovakia in August 1945. He wrote a memoir - Bomber T2990 Gone Silent - and died in 1967.

The five crew who died were: co-pilot Alois Rozum, radio operator Leonhard Smrcek, navigator Vilem Konstacky, front gunner Jan Hejna and rear gunner Karel Valach.

In its tribute to the crew, the Czech Foreign Ministry says Valach had "met an English girl Doreen Francis Todd and they were married on 10 December 1940". It adds: "Their son was born in 1941." ...

Some young North Carolina men searching for an errant baseball discovered human remains at a local park.
'Oh man, there's a skull right there'

A Sunday afternoon spent hitting baseballs led to a grisly discovery for three Gastonia friends who found skeletal remains near a city park.

"It was like, 'Oh man, there's a skull right there,'" said 18-year-old Danny Wooten, who first saw the macabre collection of bones while shagging baseballs that had been hit beyond the Ferguson Park baseball field fence. ...

Gastonia Police detectives are now scouring through old missing person reports as they await vital information from the state Chief Medical Examiner's Office, said city spokesman Rick Goodale.

"We don't know how long the deceased has been out there," Goodale said. "They may have been there for two weeks or they may have been out there for 20 years. ...

Workers renovated an Oakland (California) convention center building that opened in 1914 discovered "mummified" human remains in a cavity behind the wall(s) they were tearing out.
Workers find mummified human body behind wall at old Oakland convention hall

Construction workers in Northern California stumbled upon a grisly find when they were performing renovations recently on a convention facility in Oakland, officials said.

Crews have been performing the renovations at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center ...

Inside, one of the workers came upon a frightening find behind the drywall between two concrete pillars near the venue's concert hall -- mummified human remains.

The convention center has been closed since 2005 and had been undergoing remodeling for the past few years.

"The cavity where the individual was found was approximately 15 inches in width and 12 inches in height," Oakland Police Lt. Frederick Shavies said ...

Shavies said the remains belonged to a man who probably died a long time ago, given their condition.

Investigators said they hope DNA and dental records will identify the body. If the hands on the body were preserved well enough, they might also be able to take fingerprints.

The convention center, which first opened in 1914, was being renovated as a multi-use space for artists and offices. ...

Mass grave of 18th Century British soldiers uncovered.

Eighty-two skeletons found in a mass grave in the Dutch city of Vianen were mainly British soldiers who died of illness in an 18th Century field hospital, archaeologists say.

The remains were found outside the city's old wall in November 2020 and then researched by forensic anthropologist April Pijpelink.
All but four were men and many originated in southern England.

"It's most likely these young men came to fight against the French," she said.

But they lost their lives because of poor hygiene in a field hospital, she told the BBC. "At first we thought these man died of injuries in battle, but during my research it became clear that around 85% of them suffered from one or more infections, while basically all their trauma wounds had healed."

Samples were taken from six of the skeletons and isotope analysis of their bones concluded that one came from southern England, possibly Cornwall, another from southern Cornwall and a third from an urban English environment. Two more may have been from the Netherlands but of possible English descent while the other was from Germany.
