Just watched the first episode of the new TV adaptation of The Mosquito Coast, which I thought was brilliant so far. I highly recommend giving it a watch!

I really enjoyed the Harrison Ford film of that.

The Champions is coming to Talking Pictures. One of my favourite shows when I was a puppy
https://www.the-medium-is-not-enough.com/2021/02/talking-pictures-march-2021-the-champions.php
I loved The Champions when I was a kid. I think it used to run on a Sunday afternoon/evening but I would only have been five years old when it was first released so I think I must have seen it and enjoyed it on repeat.
I see 2 of the champions are still alive, William Gaunt (possibly best remembered for No Place Like Home) and Stuart Damon who went on to star in an American Hospital-based series for 30 years. Unfortunately we lost Alexandra Bastedo back in 2014.

Stars tonight at 6pm...

When my son lived near Geneva we'd visit the Lake and sit around in the sun eating and boozing, as everyone does there.

The Jet 'Eau'd be on and people would pose with it in background like The Champions. :chuckle:

The Nevers from Sky is rather interesting.

‘A group of Victorian women suddenly gain mysterious powers and go up against a relentless stream of enemies to fulfil their mission which could change the world.’

I've seen mixed reviews.
It's an attempt to cash in on Steampunk with a Peaky Blinders/Drama mix and using a Marvel/Mutant vibe.
Since I don't pay Sky, I have no interest - and I'm into steampunk.

Starting on June 1st on Sky History at 9.00pm- Phantom Signals
Legitimate data signals dominate the airwaves - they are part of everyday operations and help define man's understanding of the Universe. As such, they largely go unnoticed. However, occasionally some are detected that fail to fit into any norms. From ghostly voices to vanishing UFOs, experts investigate puzzling and mysterious signal interferences and break down the meanings behind them

We've watched it, great fun.

BBC Four is featuring Oliver Postgate and deep socialism he included in those old children’s shows. See? I told you.

Once Were Brothers - A Michael Scorsese film about the story of The Band as told by Robbie Robertson, one of the only 2 surviving members. Archive footage, from early days as Ronnie Hawkins band, through Bob Dylan's electric band where they were booed every night, Basement Tapes, acclaimed albums, The Last Waltz etc, to it all falling apart.

Somewhat unfashionably at the time of psychedelia & flamboyance etc, The Band had a more down-home image & ploughed their own furrow of what would now be called Americana.

A band of talented multi-instrumentalists. Robbie Robertson wrote a quality song or two. They also had one of the best singing drummers in Levon Helm.

on iplayer.

I apologise for being a bit late with this, only just got around to it. As Forteans, we should be interested in the unreliable narrator (there are so many in our field), so here's comedian Stewart Lee on the subject from last Saturday's Radio 4 Archive Hour:

It's as tricksy as you would expect, but very entertaining. Though I did end up wondering what, if anything, to believe, about everything.

Rick and Morty Season 4 on E4 from 11:20 tonight until 4:00 - oh come on, I've got to get up at 5:30.
Really hope I can figure out how to log onto My 4 tomorrow.

I'm on 'virgin media' and when you look in the guide there is an 'explore show' button, which will show you all future repeats (that it knows of) allowing you to record a show if you have just missed it, or when it clashes with too many other recordings.

Coming to Sky History on 18/07/21 at 21:00 - Ancient Aliens meet an Ancient Starship Captain! (And Nick "Britain's Fox Mulder" Pope

WILLIAM SHATNER MEETS ANCIENT ALIENS

In this two-hour special, William Shatner asks thought-provoking questions to the Ancient Aliens presenters including fan-favourite Giorgio Tsoukalos. Shatner is joined by experts including former British Ministry of Defence investigator Nick Pope to explore everything from human origins and ground-breaking archaeological finds to new understandings of the cosmos and the strong possibility that humans are not alone in the universe.

The usual suspects ... with a crowd-pleaser in Shatner; the vague link between his fictional role with aliens to real life is blatant bait, like daytime tv shows mentioning UFOS, they have to play a close clone of the X-Files theme.
Not impressed, not inspired to watch. I've not a closed mind but when it comes to media-whore programmes, I hold their 'research' in scant regard.

I'm actually surprised that the Shat is involved. He makes a bit on residuals, royalties from his books, and a bucket-load on his horse breeding. Does he need cash to sink this low?

Nothing wrong with William Shatner taking on the role? After all - you could say that he's boldly going where no man has been before.' Good-on-'im!

The Sky at Night this Sunday on BBC4 is a special devoted to the programme's decades of coverage on the search for extra-terrestrial life. 10pm, or iPlayer thereafter.
"The search for Extra Terrestrial life... is that life which survives after the football?
