Strange Things As Food & Drink

Oh yeah, the bit I find funny about Steve's videos is where he says 'oh, that tastes rank... ewww' and then seconds later, he will say 'OK, I'll try a bit more of that'. He'll often compound the problem by wearing a 'Clean Plate Club' T-shirt.
He's still alive and has carved his own path of eating historical insanely out of date food with style and knowledge. It's not quantity or quality with Steve. It's history.

Poop tomatoes growing in sewage on the Kent coast:

I think that I'll give 'em a miss ta.

My brother, aged about 10, once went with a little gang to break into the local sewage works and pick the tomatoes growing in the filter beds. Our mother was horrified. :chuckle:

I only heard about this by chance many years later as the misdemeanours of Golden Boy Bro were swiftly forgiven and hushed up. If I'd done that I'd've been beaten black and blue.

Our highly expensive but highly entertaining Drain Incident a couple of years back was foreshadowed by a huge tomato plant growing next to the front door.

Tomatoes and sewage - made for each other.

Only strange if you don't live in America and/or have never been to Disneyland. "A person could suffocate in such luxury" (thank you Vic Reeves) ..

skip to 1:05 for the indulgence to start

Certified badger fat?
I used to be married to that.

When things got too dull
I'd shout 'time for a cull!'
Fetch a shovel and batter the twat.
We were married? Explains the wedding cake!

This is a horrible and fascinating thread on Nigerian drug culture. Incredible:

African drug culture is an increasingly bizarre mix of cheap pharma drugs, illegal imports, household chemicals, car parts and traditional herbs/materials. A brief tour: https://t.co/U1CZuDdMJB

Jenkem is an older method of fermenting human waste and urine in a bag and inhaling the resulting fumes. It became a panic story in the US for a few years and is still used by the very poor, often mixed with hydrocarbons and/or glue. https://t.co/sFnYaaVhEa

Discovered that "jenkem", the poop drug, is probably an urban legend. Read this in a book about 4chan.

"Clubbers in London’s Tiger Tiger were mistakenly given caustic soda instead of salt when knocking back tequila slammers, sending four people to hospital with burns.

Police attended the nightclub near Piccadilly Circus in central London last month after receiving reports that people had chemical-related injuries, believed to be caused by a staff error. Authorities then closed Tiger Tiger as a precaution."

Have been reading the tourist blurb on Farleigh Hungerford Castle where in the crypt are eight anthropoid lead coffins. These contain embalmed bodies (the Hungerfords) pickled in spirit, enabling the remains to be preserved intact for the Resurrection. After the castle fell into ruin and became a tourist attraction, the coffins had holes drilled into them and the bolder of the Victorian visitors had the opportunity of a swift snort of the corpse-infused spirit.

Are we sure those tomato pips come from poo? It occurred to me last night, while I was making sandwiches, that every time we cut up a tomato, we wash an awful lots of seeds down the sink afterwards (or at least I do!).
Oh good grief, now my mind is stuck on people taking a dump in their sink.

My sister in law apparently puts orange juice on her cereal because she doesn't like milk. :puke2:
That's rather odd, isn't it...But then again, I think that adding orange juice to my Rum is odd too.

Strokes and folks...

Opening 1960's cans of food

Didn't watch the video but someone from the food industry told me that many tinned foods can be kept for years after the use by date. The nutritional value will decrease but they don't become toxic.
