Things That Are NOT UFOs

IIRC it actually was one of those balloons shaped like a broomstick like one would use to accompany their Halloween decorations which had escaped it's moorings and deflated slightly, and it being a particularly windless day it didn't go very far, so it just ended up lingering in place.

A recent entirely inadvertent bit of classic UFO fakery by myself.

Keen eyed UK Forteans should be able to work out where this was!

well, it's the only man-made object on an island that is uninhabited and has no other man-made objects. :p

Apparently it was built as temporary housing by shipwreck victims?

Citizens reporting silvery objects in the sky over South Dakota were advised by the National Weather Service the objects were in fact high altitude balloons.
Aerospace company’s test balloons prompt calls of concern

Citizens who called the National Weather Service concerned about some “silvery objects” in the sky around Sioux Falls this week prompted the agency to tweet that the objects were not aliens, but rather test balloons launched by a South Dakota aerospace subsidiary.

“Sorry, not aliens,” the NWS tweeted in response to the calls it received.

The high altitude balloons were launched by Raven Aerostar, a subsidiary of Raven Industries.

“As a South Dakota company and the world leader in stratospheric balloon technology, our team conducts stratospheric balloon flights throughout the year, and many of them are launched from our dedicated hangar near Baltic, SD,” said Aerostar president Jim Nelson. “Two of our Thunderhead Balloon Systems are currently over Sioux Falls.”

The balloons, which look like hot air balloons, operate miles above the surface of the earth. Once the balloon reaches the stratosphere, it changes from a teardrop to a pumpkin shape, South Dakota Public Broadcasting reported. ...

Aerostar said the balloons have a variety of uses, including monitoring wildfires, expanding cellular networks and military reconnaissance. They navigate by autonomously changing altitude to take advantage of wind currents in the atmosphere. ...

Two aeroplanes ascending in perfect parallel for an extended period of time looks odd, but tracking data suggests they are merely commercial airliners.

Note that these two planes were separated vertically by 2000 feet. Planes rarely fly side by side at the same level.

Ah, yes.

I discovered that on the day and forgot to phrase my post appropriately.

This image was in the news this week. This is exactly the same shape as another UFO which was proven to be stray light in the camera lens and was the exact shape of the camea shutter unit.
