... the wife was an Elizabeth Wilson, and the accident occurred in 1820. This brief account simply states she struck her head on the archway, and there's no mention of outright decapitation.

I may've commented this at the time, but here I go anyway - it's not the speed of the blow that'd do the damage, it's the force behind it. A person's head might be scraped off rather than severed cleanly.

I’m trying to remember the words of the original report, but after over thirty years can’t. Although, the words amounted to decapitation.
 
A nasty case, her son is the main suspect.

Detectives believe they have apprehended the man suspected of decapitating a woman at her home in Co Louth.

Gardaí recovered the murder weapon, believed to be an axe, at the house in Ardee and will liaise with the DPP today in relation to bringing charges against the 32-year-old suspect. The 57-year-old victim, Elzbieta Piotrowska, was a mother of two and was attacked after her husband left for work yesterday morning.

The man who was arrested in connection with her death remains in custody in Drogheda Garda Station. He can be held until 8pm this evening. Reports suggest the man who was arrested is Ms Piotrowska's son, Tomasz Piotrowski, who is said to have been arrested over an hour after the murder in Ardee after officers had searched two properties in the town.

A sad case.

Gardaí are investigating reports the suspect recorded a video of himself after the killing in which he claims the dead woman was “doing black magic”.

He also made further statements, including references to himself as Adolf Hitler, and implies he carried out the murder in what was described as a “selfie video”. A number of people who knew the suspect said they understood he had suffered from bouts of mental illness.

A Texas man used a hacksaw to cut off his mother's head before fleeing and leading police on a chase into Oklahoma before they arrested him, authorities have said.

Isaac Israel Warriner, 22, is being held in a Denton County jail on charges including the abuse of a corpse.He has not been charged with killing his mother, Sarah Warriner, 65, although authorities have not yet confirmed whether such charges could be coming.

Police in Denton, about 35 miles north west of Dallas, were called to an apartment complex on May 5 by a neighbour who said Warriner was "acting weird" and carrying around cleaning supplies, according to an affidavit. Officers found his mother's headless body and the hacksaw inside the Warriners' unit. Her head was not found in the apartment and it is not clear whether it has been located. Authorities believe Sarah Warriner had been dead for two days before her body was found.

Days earlier, a nurse at a Denton hospital called security when Warriner threatened to kill his mother and himself, according to the affidavit. It is not clear why he was at the hospital, but he left before police arrived.

Another disturbing case.

A woman has been charged with murder after allegedly decapitating her mother as a four-year-old relative looked on.

Although police have not confirmed the nature of the mother’s injuries, Australian media reported she had been beheaded during the incident in the city of Sydney on Saturday night. The victim of a gruesome murder during which his head and arms were cut off was a homeless man in his 60s.

The body of the man was found in the garden of an abandoned house on Boreenmanna Road in Cork city on Saturday.
His head and arms had been severed from his body. Detective Superintendent Mick Comyns said they are appealing for people who passed by Castlegreina House on Boreenmanna Road in recent days, specifically from Christmas Day to yesterday and who saw any suspicious activity in the area.

Det Supt Comyns said: “We are appealing for any persons who passed on Boreenmanna Road over the past few days, going back to Christmas Day, if they have seen any activity around this house to come forward. It is a derelict house. There shouldn’t be anyone in or around the house. People who were passing in cars - it is a very busy road - people with dash cams, if they could contact us".

The dismembered, decapitated body of the man was found on Saturday at around 4pm by a neighbour. The severed body parts were later found following a search of the grounds by Gardaí.

Truly appalling.

A six-year-old boy was beheaded in front of his screaming mum in Saudi Arabia for belonging to the wrong branch of Islam, according to reports.

The child and his mum were allegedly approached while visiting a shrine to the Prophet Muhammad in Medina and asked if they were Shia Muslims. The mum reportedly said yes and several minutes later a car pulled up beside them and the child was snatched away from her. The boy - named locally as Zakaria Al-Jaber - was repeatedly stabbed in the neck with a piece of broken glass until he was beheaded, it is claimed. His helpless mum could only watch and scream as the horror unfolded.

A woman who suffers from paranoid delusions who decapitated her mother has been sentenced to a hospital order.

The body of Odessa Carey, 73, was found at her home in Ashington, Northumberland, in April. Her 36-year-old daughter, also named Odessa Carey, was charged with her murder but was found not to be fit enough to stand trial. After a trial of the facts, a jury at Newcastle Crown Court decided she was responsible for her mother's death.

Mrs Carey's body was found at her home on 8 April and post-mortem tests showed she had been beaten to death. Scissors, knives and a mallet were discovered in a bath. Police then found her daughter hiding in the loft of a property in nearby Guide Post. Mrs Carey's head was discovered wrapped in a pillow case and a towel in a plastic bag in the cupboard under the sink at that house.

Surveillance video also caught a male exiting a white Jeep, carrying a "long skinny white object in his right hand," walking into the residence Saturday afternoon, and exiting about 30 minutes later with the same object ...

When questioned by police, Thompson refused to speak but wrote on a sheet of paper that the "paper in glove compart in Jeep is all you need" ...

Once a search warrant was obtained, police found paperwork suggesting Thompson believed he was a "sovereign citizen," or an individual who believes he is not subject to any statutes and interprets the laws in their own way ...

Shortly after Thompson was formally charged with murder, detectives and members of the Hartford Police Dive Team recovered the suspected murder weapon about 10 miles away in the Farmington River ...

Man ‘decapitates mother’ before placing head in freezer and finger in kettle

A son stabbed his elderly mother to death with an ornamental sword, cut off her head and placed it in the freezer, a court heard.

Philip Tarver, 47, allegedly decapitated 86-year-old Angela Tarver as police rushed to the family home in Woking, Surrey.

He also used a knife to amputate her left ring finger, which was found in a kettle, it is claimed.

Opening the murder trial at the Old Bailey, Alexandra Healy QC said the attack took place in the kitchen at around midday on 19 December last year.

“The defendant stabbed his mother in the chest with an ornamental sword, killing her,” the prosecutor told jurors. ...

“Brandishing that sword in the dining room of the property he argued with and threatened to kill his father.”

During a struggle, he was disarmed by his father Colin Tarver, 83, who left the house with the sword and called police.

“It appears that whilst the police were making their way to address and Colin Tarver, the father, was outside the address, that the defendant decapitated his mother.

“He placed her head into the freezer of the kitchen and then he amputated her left ring finger which he placed into a kettle,” said Ms Healy. ...

During a mental health assessment, Mr Tarver explained how he killed his mother, jurors were told.

An almost beheading in this rather gruesome, violent and ultimately tragic murder:

Two teenagers have been jailed for life after trying to decapitate a factory supervisor as they hacked at him more than 100 times with a samurai sword.

Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and Luke Gaukroger, 16, admitted murdering Robert Wilson in the "frenzied and senseless attack" in Huddersfield in January this year.


Mr Wilson, 53, had approached Earnshaw and Gaukroger as they loitered outside the Thornton and Ross Pharmaceutical plant.

CCTV footage played in court showed how the teenagers later passed a 20-inch blue samurai sword between them in an attack that lasted around 10 minutes.

Audio recorded from the factory supervisor's phone call to a security firm during the attack captured Gaukroger, who was 15 at the time, shouting "get his head, I want to cut his head, Kia I want to cut his head".

Samauri swords (or most likely copies of them) are displayed in certain households on walls as ornaments. They are close to hand in an argument, like kitchen knives are.
A teacher at my nephew's high school once chased his girlfriend down the street with one and was duly prosecuted but amazingly didn't get the sack.
This was in the '80s. I doubt he'd keep his job now!
 
I was pleased to note that in a recent altercation in my town, the sword used was a medieval sword, not a samurai sword.

According to police, Chinnar Yadav attacked his wife Vimla with a sharp weapon after a heated argument.

After killing and beheading his wife, Yadav was then filmed carrying his wife's severed head to their local police station in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The shocking video clip shows him walking down the street holding his wife's bloodied head by the hair as well as a weapon in the Neta Nagar of Banda district on October 9.

It is thought that Yadav also injured his neighbour during the attack after accusing the pair of infidelity.

The video clips ends as Yadav is about to enter Baberu Police Station to surrender where he was then arrested with police recovering the weapon.

That’s true Scargy. My primary school teacher would come back drunk after lunch most days. Then get through a pack of Rothmans before the end of the school day - the authorities sacked him sometime in the mid 90’s.

The last time I saw him was in a pub, watching the England v Germany 1996 semi final - overweight, red faced, alone and drunk.

I felt very sorry for him, the poor chap, and no he didn’t recognise me.

Islamists make beheading into a spectator sport.

More than 50 people have been beheaded in northern Mozambique by militant Islamists, state media report.

The militants turned a football pitch in a village into an "execution ground", where they decapitated and chopped bodies, other reports said.
Several people were also beheaded in another village, state media reported. The beheadings are the latest in a series of gruesome attacks that the militants have carried out in gas-rich Cabo Delgado province since 2017. The militants are linked to the Islamic State (IS) group, giving it a foothold in southern Africa.

The gunmen chanted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest", in English), fired shots, and set homes alight when they raided Nanjaba village on Friday night, the state-owned Mozambique News Agency quoted survivors as saying. Two people were beheaded in the village and several women abducted, the news agency added.

A separate group of militants carried out another brutal attack on Muatide village, where they beheaded more than 50 people, the news agency reported. Villagers who tried to flee were caught, and taken to the local football pitch where they were beheaded and chopped to pieces in an atrocity carried out from Friday night to Sunday, privately-run Pinnancle News reported.

Another sad case

A 35-year-old man who decapitated his mother in her Louth home has been jailed for life after he pleaded guilty to murder this morning.

Tomasz Krzysztof Piotrowski, who had previously lied to psychiatrists in an attempt to get a diagnosis of schizophrenia and a lesser sentence, was arraigned before and sentenced by the Central Criminal Court less than a week after he was deemed fit to stand trial. Piotrowski, originally from Poland but with an address at Cherrybrook, Ardee, Co. Louth, pleaded guilty to murdering his mother Elzbieta Piotrowska (aged 57) on January 8, 2019, at her home in Clonmore, Ardee.

Mr Justice Michael White noted the case was the second in a matter of months where long-term drug addiction had led to a drug-induced psychosis that resulted in "the most horrific of tragedies".

Ms Piotrowska's decapitated body was found in her home that morning. She had suffered a significant number of stab wounds and an axe and a number of blood-stained stanley knives were found close to her body.

Piotrowski was arrested on the same day and was subsequently deemed unfit to be tried having been assessed by psychiatrists at the Central Mental Hospital (CMH) in Dundrum, Dublin. However, Mr Justice White deemed Piotrowski fit to stand trial last Friday after hearing evidence from two consultant psychiatrists who had disagreed on the issue. Delivering judgment, the judge said he was satisfied that the Polish man could find his way around navigating a plea, follow the evidence and make a proper defence. ...
