Large Snakes

Decent of him to take the snake home instead of just calling the RSPCA.

A man was on his morning jog when he stumbled across a 7ft (2.13m) boa constrictor in a brown pillow case.

He was running in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, when he spotted the non-poisonous snake in bushes and took it home before the RSPCA collected it.

Inspector Stephen Reeves said that it was healthy and suspected the owner "just no longer wanted him".

The charity wants to rehome the snake, which has been taken to South Essex Wildlife Hospital.

Mr Reeves added: "We believe people are unaware of how much of a commitment these animals are, and once they grow in size they can no longer cope."

The RSPCA has urged the owner of the snake, which was found on Wednesday, 29 November, to come forward.

A photo of an Australian police officer encountering a python has drawn a large reaction on social media.

The officer and his partner were on a night patrol in northern Queensland when they came across the "monster" scrub python on a road, police said.

Spotting an opportunity, the officers snapped a picture with the reptile.

"Fair to say that the snake was over five metres [long] but not really the type of reptile that you want to take a tape measure to," police told the BBC.

Queensland police shared the photo, taken earlier this year, across its social media accounts on Monday. They said it had since received more than two million views and 10,000 comments.

Some sons do 'ave 'em.

Mother saves pet python that killed her son
A mother whose son was killed by his pet python has continued to care for the snake.

Daniel Brandon, 31, died from asphyxiation at his home near Basingstoke, Hampshire, last year.

His mother Barbara Brandon has been looking after the African rock python named Tiny since her son's death.

But she's now donated it to the National Reptile Welfare Centre in Hadlow, Kent.

You can see more on Inside Out on BBC One in the South and South East at 19:30 GMT on Monday, 5 March.

Bet he wasn't expecting to find that in the box, again odd that they took the snake home before calling the RSPCA.

A 13ft (4m) python was found "cruelly and illegally" dumped inside a plastic box in a lay-by.

A passer-by discovered the reptile next to the A303 near Marston Magna, Somerset, on Friday, the RSPCA said. The animal charity said the reticulated python appeared to have been well looked-after but was "suffering due to low temperatures" at the roadside. It is being cared for by an exotic animal specialist until its owner comes forward.

Hopefully it won't swallow a don.

A 9ft (2.7m) reticulated python has escaped from its owner's home.

Cambridgeshire Police is searching for the snake after receiving reports in the early hours it was on the loose in Lovell Road, Cambridge.

The force tweeted that it had traced its owner, who confirmed the python was missing.

Reticulated pythons are native to Southeast Asia and the longest snakes in the world. Anyone who sees the non-venomous reptile is asked to call 101.

Boa about.

A search is under way to find a boa constrictor snake believed to be "at large" in a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

The skin of the 2.5m-long (8.2ft) snake was found at a building site in the town of Silverdale in New South Wales.

A professional snake handler was called on 4 October to inspect the skin, found hanging from wooden planks.

The snake, an invasive species originating from South America, could be dangerous to children and pets.

It is illegal to keep boa constrictors, non-venomous snakes which use their hooked teeth to trap and suffocate prey, outside of zoos in Australia.

Large pythons killed in Indonesian forest fires (7 .8 inches seems to thin for the width of a 30 foot snake). https://nextshark.com/large-snakes-...sqbBhlBncRVefm88WdlPpCtM5rjjBXdHE1EqeThI7gYiA
Are the measurements officially verified vs. local native estimates? To date only one reticulated python has ever approached - exceeded 30' has been recorded and that particular python was killed on the island of Celebes ~ a century ago. From my understanding reticulated pythons > 20' are quite rare. Just a bit sceptical not knocking the post.

No idea mate but i'd say it was probably estimates.
