Aah all's clear now, wikpedia is a more valid source than academic texts. Got it. Looks like Joseph Campbell and all the other writers on the subject are suffering from von daniken disease, all the way back to 1798, ...never mind  http://members.cox.net/srice1/books/dupuis/dupuis9.htm

Well the early parts re. Religion are...Facts. Not vague and not assumptions as all the books cited in the first part are factual, often by academics like Frazer and Campbell. Religious syncretism, obviously this can be very dangerous to Biblical Christianity. Or for that matter any literalist...

Seen this and to borrow a few words from Liz Taylor (Acutally refering to "The Blue Bird") momentarily..."Vulgar and something of a Disease...." Add to that: Shallow, silly and boring, waste of time and money. Another pointless rant from the Danny Boyle(Inthe bag)?stable.

What's The Most Extreme Film You've Ever Watched?

I'd say the most extreme scene I've ever seen is in the uncut (home market) edition of "The Isle" during which we see swallowed fish hooks pulled out of a guys throat. This covers sfx like all the above mentioned flix. Then this is topped by the sight of a large fish having 2 fillets carved...

Torture Porn goes mainstream: Yikes! Is it just me?

A Samurai film that attacks the whole heroic genre. A wannabe samurai seeks revenge on a couple who slighted him. That's it. It all takes place in the dark,(1 bit of colour at the start as the sun sets) then B&W for the rest. No redemption, extremely nasty spurts of violence, no hope, no future...

Torture Porn goes mainstream: Yikes! Is it just me?

Just wait until one of these turkeys (seen most of the above new things and thought they all sucked) flops at the box office. Hollywood will soon find a new meme to go with. The only film I've ever seen with a lot of torture scenes in it that I really liked was " The untold story" a cat III...

    The dark world of Subversion

Just watched the first episode and found it excellent, one of those " does what it says on the can" thingys. From the official site Shot in grainy black and white with scratches on the lens, very bleak, tense and definitely not a place to be. Great stuff! Anyone from over the pond or...

    Aronofsky's The Fountain

Got this and it's slightly different from the film. More stuff set in Spain, the spaceship parts are longer and a somewhat different ending.Made me wonder if there's any footage on the studio floor. The lack of a commentary (according to pre release info) is interesting seeing that there are...

    The Madeleine McCann Disappearance

My Bolds! Hysteria is the right word for this multimedia circus. I hope Madeline is found Ok but...

    The Madeleine McCann Disappearance

Interesting that there seems to be very little criticism of the parents, IMO if they'd been from, let's say an inner city council estate, the media would have been singing a very different tune:ranting that they were unfit parents.

    Isolation: Man-eating Irish cows!!

Seen this and....was entertained, Citizen Kane it's not but a creditable effort on what looked like a low budget. The Cow/things look pretty freaky, well enough acted, and it doesn't feature American teens. Better than Sunshine in that it's somewhat believable as opposed to just plain daft. 6/10

    Wizards Through The Door!

    Wizards Through The Door!

Penig, in the UK we have a free NHS for both Psychiatry and all other forms of Health Care. The social context of a Cunadero/Shaman doing stuff for whatever the patient can afford is irrelevant. It's a long standing tradition, and not my point initially. However the difference between, a token...

The Exorcism of Emily Rose & Requiem
