My new book will be launched in the Cobblestone Pub, Smithfield, Dublin 7, tonight, 19 May, at 7.30 - speakers, singers and a great night.

In the late summer of 1348, the greatest killer in recorded history – the Black Death – struck Ireland. Within twelve months, over one-third of the population had died. Our ancestors faced what they thought was the end of the world.

Focusing on the lives of eight people, ‘1348: A Medieval Apocalypse’ vividly brings this fascinating world to life.

From earls to outlaws, their stories take you on a journey through the chaotic Ireland of the 14th century. Beginning in the decades of war that preceded the plague, you will find yourself immersed in the captivating world of our distant ancestors.

Will check that bit of history out and nice that you are posting things about Ireland a lot because it's nice knowing more about my ethnicity. I'm half Irish (Kamm's Corner Irish..my paternal great, great grandparents on both sides of my dad's are from Ireland) and, on my mom's side, English and Scotch-Irish with a smattering of Am. Indian somewhere down the line. Her family for generations have lived in one area of the south since the colonial times. In 1932, the year she was born, the majority of the natives/locals in that area were Scotch-Irish and English. Her maiden surname was Boone and her mother's maiden last name was Dean.
