Weird man beast from Edo period Japan.

Nice find. The first thing that came to mind was the chupacabra since it had the defining spiked back that's been reported (not the manged coyote, but the actual chupacabra).

Lacking details seems to be par for record keepers pre 1900s. This fact almost more mysterious than the beast itself.
