Have they shown the BBC's "Blue Planet" over in the states yet, thats one to watch out for.

In one episode they go to the abyssal zone in the atlantic, take a quick squiz at the black smokers and tubeflex worms then discover a hairy angler fish and see lots of pritty light up fish, jellyfish and protazoa.

It was on the Discovery Channel about a year ago, the DVDs are already out including a box set that I'd love to get.

I was talking to an old Royal Marine the other night (as you do) and he was telling me about when he was in South Africa. Apparently there was a terrible storm one night and the next morning they found a huge tenticle on the beach. About ten feet long and thicker than a man's thigh, he said. Unfortunately they were a little too busy to do anything with it.
