Adults Posing As Minors / Children

Now a film about Brandon Lee/Brian MacKinnon.

For a whole school year a new boy convinced his Scottish high school classmates and teachers that he was just a regular pupil.

But eventually the teenager who called himself Brandon Lee was exposed as an imposter called Brian MacKinnon, who had left the same school more than a decade earlier.

A new film retells the story of how a 30-year-old man, claiming to be 17-year-old from Canada, enrolled as a fifth year student at Bearsden Academy, near Glasgow, in 1993 and gained five A-grade Highers before his world collapsed. It was a year later, while he was a student at Dundee University's medical school, that his double life was revealed by a newspaper and MacKinnon was thrown off his course. The story gained worldwide attention, with many alarmed at the thought of young girls unconsciously consorting with a man almost twice their age.

The new film was written and directed by Jono McLeod, who was a 16-year-old classmate of Mackinnon - or Brandon, as he still calls him.

Just watched this. A very good production and an incredible story. Lots of interviews with former classmates and some teachers.
I'll be taking a close look at some of my students when I get back...

She'll have to jump through hoops to get her job back.

An assistant high school basketball coach in Virginia has been fired after impersonating a 13-year-old player during a game this past weekend.

Arlisha Boykins, 22, an assistant junior varsity basketball coach at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, was canned from the job after the parents of a girl she was reportedly impersonating complained to school officials, sports journalist Craig Loper first reported for local NBC affiliate WAVY TV.

Portsmouth Public Schools confirmed to HuffPost that Boykins “is no longer an employee.”

“Coaches always preach to the kids about integrity and those types of things, so I was just shocked,” the father of the 13-year-old told Loper.

Adopted girl accused of ‘masquerading’ as 6-year-old speaks out: ‘Do I look like a monster to you?’

The unusual story all kicked off back in 2010, when husband and wife Kristine and Michael Barnett, from Indiana in the US, adopted Ukrainian-born Natalia Grace, believing her to be a little girl with a rare form of dwarfism.

However, the couple alleged that after bringing her home to the US, they discovered that she was actually an adult posing as a child and that she had nefarious plans to harm them.

"I hate this. She tried to poison and kill my wife. And one night, I opened my eyes and Natalia is standing at the foot of the bed with a knife in her hand."

Thought I'd mentioned this before, but it seems not.

The ex was a high school teacher. Over a few years he taught several male pupils from immigrant south Asian families who appeared to be much older than their stated age. One in particular started towering over other kids, shaving every day and talking in a deep voice at barely 13.

The school would ask the parents searching questions to which the replies would be about lost paperwork and the boys would be withdrawn from school.

This article clarifies a few things.

The second season of a documentary series answers questions about whether a Ukrainian orphan was actually an adult pretending to be a child to fool her adoptive parents, who had persuaded a judge to change her legal age from 9 to 22 years old as they claimed she terrorized their family.

DNA analysis, dental records and an endocrinologist’s evaluation are offered as evidence of Natalia Grace Barnett’s true age in “Natalia Speaks,” Investigation Discovery’s second season of its 2023 blockbuster “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.”

According to health and scientific professionals, Natalia was in fact a child in 2012 when Michael and Kristine Barnett petitioned an Indiana court to change the date on her birth certificate from 2003 to 1989. Shortly afterward, the couple moved to Canada with their three biological sons, leaving Natalia, who has a form of dwarfism, to fend for herself in apartments they rented for her in Indiana.

An endocrinologist who examined Natalia in 2010 estimated her to be 9 to 11 years old.

A dentist reviewing her X-rays from his 2011 examination for “Natalia Speaks” pointed out that she still had 12 baby teeth at the time, calling the results “indisputable.” Kristine Barnett, he said, left the consultation with documentation of his finding that she was 8 to 9 years old.

And filmmakers were there when Natalia received the results of a recent epigenetic DNA test, which determined she is now no older than 22, making it clear she was a child when deserted by the family nearly 12 years ago. ...

I did wonder about this one, seems like some sort of mental illness with the adoptive parents.
