Can anyone tell me of a reference to a species of albatross which remained unknown to science until about the 1970's or thereabouts?

I am sure that there was a reference in Fortean Times but my old database committed suicide and I can't find it.

Any help much appreciated

The Amsterdam Albatross (Diomedea amsterdamensis), officially described in 1983, and discovered in 1978 on Amsterdam island in the Indian Ocean.

Also i read somewhere that the stellers albatross (named after Same guy that discovered the stellers sea cow) was thought extinct but a small breeding colony was rediscovered in the late 70's
