Seas around the west coast of Scotland have been taking on a vivid turquoise hue.

The picture postcard scenes are believed to be caused by coccolithophore algae bloom.

This sheds white calcium carbonate plates - which can turn into chalk - and transforms the sea into a photogenic aquamarine colour.
