It probably is a domestic cat, but I'm not totally ready to write this one off, personally. Something in its proportions and colour seem odd to me. Amazona Zoo isn't very far from there. But the only potential South American felid that springs to mind is the jaguarundi, which I tend to think of as having different proportions and posture.
I agree the legs are longer than I would expect in most domestics, perhaps an "oriental" breed, ocicat or bengal or something. But as usual there is nothing to indicate perspective or height context. If it's someone's house cat it's in really athletic condition. I've certainly known dom cats that look like that

As the coat markings that you can just about make out go, I would suggest a Bengal!

You have better software than I do. It's vaguely striped maybe and looks like my sainted departed ocicat Izzy although he was much less energetic than that guy. An ABC photo of what was clearly a bengal was posted a while ago and I'll repeat what I said then - you don't let a $600 cat run around outside.

What about sub cats?

One of the reasons all of these photos are most likely domestic cats of course, apart from the fact they inhabit every part of the country, is that domestic cats vary considerably in proportions, size, markings and colouration. So, as you said, there is no way to ascertain the moggy's size, so no convincing reason to think this is anything other than a common kitty. Still, this one does have my attention when so many others haven't impressed.

A report of a possible 'lynx' sighting in Coombe, Cornwall. It's a poorly written story, padded out with big cat sightings from Australia.
It must be a slow news day.

The animal in question:

I somehow missed this post. As photos of proposed lynxes go, this one matches quite nicely. That doesn't mean it's a lynx, but there's nothing I can see in the photo that discounts it.

There's a Bengal which waits for her owner to return that sits right outside my house most nights, long legs, beautifully marked coat and meows like mad when she arrives home. Seems like some owners think the value of their Cat is the friendship they give, rather than their monetary value.

Never mind the proposed lynx, what about the size of that Alpaca on the other side of the tree?
"Ah!" I see it! emoji.jpg

It is for me - but I don't feel the need to buy a special cat. Izzie the ocicat was a show-cat reject.

It does in the still above, but looks more feline in the video in the link. It does seem to raise its head very high for a cat.
Just a domestic Cat stretching it's head to get a better look at something - walks like a domestic Cat too!

Fascinating fact - Lynx don't count as big cats. Nor do Cheetahs, depending on whom you ask, because neither have a floating Hyoid bone in the throat, and the inability to roar make them (officially) lesser cats. As with many things, more emphasis is placed on noise than size.

They have quite an impressive growl though!

I've watched the video in this link twice, and it looks to me like a moggie walking along the top of a fence. Anyway...

‘Big cat’ caught on Ring doorbell cam outside Brit home and experts claim it’s a PUMA

A WOMAN was left feeling spooked after she spotted a 'big cat' in her garden on CCTV.

The eerie footage shows a large animal walking alongside a small fence in a garden - which experts have confirmed to be a PUMA.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be named, caught the creature taking a stroll at her home in Larkhall, Scotland at roughly 3.55am on Saturday morning.

A short video clip, filmed through her Ring doorbell, shows a creature moving around in the darkness.

Cat. They couldn't have made the video more grainy if they tried.

I’ve been lured to the Sun site. I knew it was wrong..

Definately a cat, a puma would have broken that fence if it walked on it.

I think they're saying is that it's walking alongside the fence. So, they're trying to sell us a forced perspective illusion where a moggie walking atop the fence is claimed to be a big cat walking the other side of the fence. I'd love to know what 'experts' have 'confirmed' that it's a puma. Even were it a big cat, I think you'd be pushed to identify it from that footage.

It's appeared on several news sites. I linked to The Sun because it's the only version of the video my phone would show full screen. I haven't read the full story as told elsewhere.

Even with the terrible quality of the footage, I still definately looks like a cat walking atop a fence, the way it is placing its feet, rather than a larger feline walking the other side, also for anyone that has seen even a photo of a puma or other big cat, they would know how muscular and heavily built they are compared to a moggy.

I'm not sure why it IS so grainy, except to encourage the misidentification. Look at the Ring doorbell videos on youtube, none of them are that bad.
Like a lot of fortean images and and videos, it's unclear because, were it clear, it would be obvious what it was and would be on news sites. That is to say, there's probably a reason it's not a clear image, but the reason it's on our radar is that it's not a clear image.

Yesterday I was out with the dog walking across fields not far from my home.

Something large and black was running parallel to us, along the hedgeline in the next field. I stood and watched and just forced my eyes to see what I was actually seeing and not what my brain kept trying to tell me it was. My brain was absolutely determined that it was a large black cat - distance and perspective would have meant it was bigger than a domestic moggy but not huge, but I KNEW from the way it was running that it couldn't be a cat. It was running, just straight along the hedge, no loping, no stopping to peer into the hedge or prowling.

After a while my eyes sort of adjusted and I realised it was the black spaniel from the farm. I know it well. But my brain was positive it was a cat and a danger. So I can fully understand how people can catch a glimpse of something anomalous and firmly believe it to be an ABC - because that is what their brain is shouting at them.

Cat the 'size of a lurcher' with a 2ft-long tail spotted by cyclist in Cornwall. My friend's got a lurcher, which is quite slight, but they can be up to 100lb apparently, so that could make it about the size of a leopard. A lynx might be about right but they're pretty much tail-less.

A lurcher can be the size of a whippet though. 'Lurcher' is pretty much any cross breed which will chase, so, as a size estimator, it's useless.

But in the article I think it was 'Nigel's lurcher', so that's clear as...

What is a lurcher? Feline, canine? I've never heard this term.
