Difficult with no scale, but the face looks too much like a housecat. I call moggy on this one.
There Is some hints of scale, we can guess range based on shadows and the foliage. It looks CLOSE, like.... could pounce the cameraman. If it is within 12 feet... that's gotta be a housecat. Also, like most housecats with "black" fur, this beast has gold eyes! It at first glance looks to have stripes, but I think that's shadows of the plants.

Oh dear. it isn't looking so good.

"A TV production company has claimed that it has secured DNA evidence...
"A forensic laboratory..."

And a blurry picture of a moggy/plastic bag/shadow/dog/whatever.

It may be they are waiting to sell a programme with "proof" but I suspect more hype.

Found the video from which the still in the link was taken:

Looks like a house cat but can't make out what the objects are to the left that we keep getting glimpses of, knowing their identity would really help establish size:

there's enough background stuff for decent scale here. and yeah.... housecat.

However I'm not sure if they are claiming this is what left the fur on the wire which is what the DNA was taken from. Being a TV company they probably want a new film to go with their DNA claims and help sell the programme.

But if that's the best they can do.........

Is this the Beast of Blaenau? (probably not)
'Petrified' driver spots big cat prowling Welsh village and believes it may even be a leopard.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-prowling-Welsh-village-believes-leopard.html

It has pointy ears and doesn't seem to have a tail so it isn't very leopard-like. There is a hybrid called a Highlander which is a Desert Lynx and Jungle Curl cross. That appears to be an American breed, which doesn't mean someone hasn't done something similar here.

Reminds me of a spotted Manx Cat?

Well finally we have some unambiguous footage. It is a decent size but no larger than a tom cat when measured against the bench in the background and the grass. Unfortunately, it's behaviour is consistent with a domesticated cat and it doesn't have those lynx ear tufts so either a regular cat that has had its tail removed (Manx disease or an accident) or one of the suggestions above.

Another clue would be the kerbs visible in the video - if they are the standard size (914mm).

Even allowing for perspective, the cat looks shorter than a single kerb - and definitely not in the 1.5 to 2 metre size range estimated by the observer - presuming he was referring to length. (If he was referring to shoulder height, then I wouldn't have been filming the bloody thing - I'd have my foot right down on the accelerator and be on my way to Aberdeen.)

They've got even bigger ones up in Aberdeen! :)

Hmmm... Was the driver "terrified" or was he thinking of how much the Daily Mail would pay for his video...?!

hmmm found a better shot of it.
There certainly seem to be differences in it's make up. The lines on it's rear end look Tiger-like, and the eyes appear to be closer to it's nose, with short triangular shaped ears and extra dark colouration of it's fur. It certainly does seem to look rather odd when compared to the normal moggie.

@lordmongrove Just checked the CFZ blog but this case hasn't featured yet. Wondered what your thoughts are? It is certainly a decent size and unusual in several ways. Doesn't look like CGI (frankly too mundane). I do wish witnesses such as this would contact the CFZ or a similar organisation rather than going to the Mail, Mirror, Star or Sun etc. as immediately monetary gain becomes a factor and it could very well be his own exotic breed of cat that he has 'chanced upon'.

And there's just the outside chance that one of the reporters/writers, for the Mail, Mirror, Star or Sun might have been tempted to slightly over-embellish their report, on the report - you never know, after all, they have newsy stuff to sell!:hoff:
