Animal Deformities

Here's a Welsh special calf. Seems it's actually a bull.

Three-eyed cow from North Wales rehomed in sanctuary and named after Hindu god

She had been TB-testing cattle at the Gwynedd farm when she saw the calf's strange appearance.

Reports of the discovery were noticed by animal welfare charity, Jain Animal Charity, which then pledged to purchase the cow.

The charity purchased the cow for £5,000 after weeks of negotiations with its previous owner, reports LeicestershireLive.

Nitin Mehta, who founded the Jain Animal Sanctuary said: "Because the cow had three eyes we thought he was special and we wanted to rescue him because like all of these animals, he would have ended up being slaughtered eventually."

The calf has now been rehomed at a sanctuary called Goshalla in Leicester.

A three-eyed calf was born in Tamil Nadu, India, in September 2014.

Rajesh believes that the miracle calf is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and that she has been sent to their village to bring good luck to the people.

"This is a miracle calf, so we are worshipping and praying to it like a god,' he told the Daily Mail. "We believe if we worship this calf it will give good luck for us and the people around us." ...

This terrier pup was born with inverted front paws (turned upside-down). After corrective surgery she's finally learning to walk.

Veterinarians correct puppy's upside-down paws

Veterinary surgeons at Oklahoma State University announced they successfully performed a corrective procedure on a puppy born with her paws upside-down.

OSU's College of Veterinary Medicine, which previously made headlines for performing a similar procedure on a dog named Milo, said the rat terrier puppy, Siggi, was born with her paws facing upward instead of downward. ...

"As with Milo, Siggi's problem looked like it was in the paws, but it was actually in her elbows," Dr. Erik Clary, who performed the surgeries on both canines ...

"For reasons not fully understood, these patients' elbows come out of joint early in life and the result is severe rotation of the lower front limbs and an inability to walk. At most, they might muster a crawl that seems most uncomfortable and is poorly suited for a dog's life" ...

Clary said Siggi's case was found to be even more complicated than Milo's because of a deformity in the lower part of her elbow.

"The CT helped us plan a more complex procedure that would require an intentional break high up in her ulna bone to de-rotate the limb" ...

Siggi underwent surgery May 12. Oklahoma State said her splints have been removed and she is learning to walk. ...

A lamb in Australia has 5 legs. The 'extra' leg is growing out of its head.
Australian farmer finds five-legged lamb in his flock

An Australian wool farmer said a lamb from his family's flock will now become a family pet because of an unusual feature: an extra leg growing out of its head.

Sam Kuerschner, of Orroroo, South Australia, said he was taking a break from shearing about three weeks ago when his father noticed something unusual about one of the lambs in the pen. ...

"He had a bit of a second glance and said, 'That sheep's got five legs' ..."

He said the extra leg was made all the more unusual by the fact that it's coming out of the back of the animal's head.

"It's a fully formed leg. There's bone and joints and it's even got a sort of hoof on the end of it, and seems to be attached to the sheep just through skin or flesh, rather than a bone joint," he said.

... He said the sheep will become a family pet once it gets a little older. ...

"When the time comes to wean it off its mother, I think I'll take it home and it can run around the house yard. I've got three little kids and they'll be fascinated to have that as a bit of a special pet for hopefully the rest of its life," he said.

Veterinarian Paul Nilon of Perth estimated one in 200,000 sheep are born with an extra limb.

"The most common variation I've seen is where you have an additional foot and hoof growing out the side of the lower leg, but I have seen at least one growing from the head," he said.

South Australia farmer Marshall Bowey made a similar discovery in 2020, when he found a lamb in his flock had an extra leg growing out from the side of its head. The lamb, which had two feet on its spare leg, was named Starfish.

Rare calf born with three eyes and four nostrils

A three-eyed cow born in India has been dubbed a "divine miracle" when it was claimed to be a reincarnation of Hindu God, Shiva.

The rare calf was born with an extra eye on its forehead and four nostrils, sparking a frenzy with locals.

Some residents of the village of Chhattisgarh in the Rajnandgaon District in India claim the three-eyed calf is a reincarnation of Viswanatha, a God known for having an eye on their forehead.

A large number of people flocked from nearby villages to worship the cow, believing it to be the re-birth of Shiva.

A lamb born on a Northumberland farm had an extra (fifth) leg with an extra toe. This isn't the first 5-legged lamb to be born at that farm.
Whitehouse Farm near Morpeth welcomes 'one-in-a-million' five-legged lamb with an extra toe

A farm in Northumberland has welcomed what it has called a one-in-a-million addition to its flock, a five-legged lamb.

The team at Whitehouse Farm, near Morpeth, were not only surprised by the rather unusual arrival but soon realised the little lamb's fifth leg had three toes as opposed to the normal two.

Part-owner Heather Hogarty first introduced their "special girl" to followers on Facebook and has since said she believes her birth is "one-in-a-million".

"It's quite an unusual occurrence but not as unusual as you think because you do get as many animals as people born with additional needs, it's just you might not always see them," she said.

More unusual still, the lamb, which is yet to be named, was born as part of a set of triplets on the date, 22/02/22.

Heather added that they would monitor her and follow advice from a vet to see if the extra limb would cause any problems.

Strange things in the animal world have been happening for millions of years. Ignore the multi headed chicken, it's a fake.
