A few days ago I posted a story of a weird "toad" in Derbyshire in the 1600s. Here is another toad(?) in the territory of the Osage Nation (the Great Plains.) Btw the new Animals and Men magazine (CFZ Devon) feature the "toad" of 1677.Identity of this one below anyone?Aurora General Advertiser (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

The physical description and Osage nation location are so consistent with the North American horned lizards long mis-labeled as 'horned frogs' or 'horned toads' that I have a hard time coming up with an alternative explanation.

The 'squirrels' are pretty obviously prairie dogs.
