I was in the White Hart in Witham last night.
I had eaten in the local Tapas bar with my wife and a friend and I knew my youngest son was a few doors away with his buddies so we went to have a nightcap or three.
Responding to a call of nature I walked towards the short narrow corridor leading to the gents and was aware of someone coming in the opposite direction. I stepped to the side to let them pass and after a few seconds no one exited the corridor.
I thought maybe I was mistaken and someone was walking into the loo instead of coming out, so I walked into the toilet…to find it empty. No one at the urinal and both traps wide open. No one could have left the loo without passing me.
I thought someone may purposely be hiding so checked out both traps, behind the doors etc but no, nobody present.
On my return I told the people I was with who laughed at me and I got the usual comments about having had one too many, but my son brought over one of the staff who said they all believed the pub has some spooky stuff going on at times. She said she would bring the manager over so I could relay to him what I thought I had seen/felt/been aware of, but he never came over whilst we were still there.
I don’t know what made me believe someone was walking towards me. A trick of the light or a shadow cast from behind me but for me to physically step to one side to let them pass show that something triggered the response in me.
