Good way to approach it. 
Still, I think a lot of folks don't "believe" what they see because of advances in the science of media. Photoshop killed "the camera never lies", the Blair Witch Project stomped on any alleged 'found footage' and people are more cynical because they know or have seen really clever fiction being made.
Damned if it's good, damned if it's not.
My supposition is that with the flooding of You Tube, Instagram, TikTok et al, some footage - which would be a good starting point of investigation and analysis - is swamped by those wanting media validation (i.e. followers, likes, etc.)
