I don't think archaeologists will be too happy with this.

New "Chariots of the Gods" Ancient Astronaut Theme Park to Open in England
5/17/2019

This week, Vice visited the site for Erich von Däniken’s Mystery Park, his ancient astronaut theme park that went bust and reconstituted itself as Jungfrau Park, an amusement park operated by new owners, at which von Däniken maintains an office. Vice explored the park and talked to von Däniken, who, as is typical, is a bit phlegmatic about the changes that the new owners imposed on his vision.

In the interview, von Däniken claimed that the owners of the park removed an exhibit claiming that the Jewish prophet Ezekiel saw an alien spacecraft because “religious critics” were insulted at the challenge to Biblical truth. These same critics didn’t care if non-Judeo-Christian religious material was attributed to space aliens, so long as the Bible was exempt. The exhibit was replaced with a Segway rental station.

“I was of course very disappointed but I’m happy that the park at least is still open in some way,” von Däniken told Vice.

Blackpool apparently. They’ve already had a small scale version operating for a few years but it closed down a month or so before my last visit to Blackpool... it was just a room full of display boards full of text so not really inspiring, better to just read a book.

Should have reopened it in Cromer where there are some real hybrids.

Where about exactly was the mini Von Daniken version you saw @gordonrutter?

We were down in BPL/Lancs last week for a few (rather windswept) days holiday, and I never saw any old signage up for the one you were at, nor for this supposedly-planned mega-version. If it was going to be built anywhere <does a Sideshow Bob shudder> it would HAVE to be in Las Vegas Blackpool

The Promenade's "Star Trek" multimedia visitors' attraction was (perhaps mercifully) shut-down, the North Pier was looking very much worse-for-wear, but 'Elvis' was live & well at the Central, the Wintergardens were warm & welcoming, and The Tower (as ever) was utterly-briliant.

(Not forgetting the best place in Blackpool to eat... http://www.westcoastrock.co.uk/ )

Probably about four or five years since I was last there so I imagine all traces will be long gone.

A huge new theme park is opening an hour's drive from Manchester - and it's inspired by a book that says aliens have visited earth.

Blackpool Council is planning to compel landowners to sell up to make way for a £300m entertainment complex

Blackpool Council is preparing to use compulsory purchase powers to secure land for a £300m entertainment complex.

It means land and property owners within the boundaries of land earmarked for the 'Blackpool Central' project can expect to be forced to sell up so redevelopment can start soon.

The main tenant of the redeveloped site will be the Chariots of the Gods Entertainment Park - an indoor theme and adventure park inspired by books from the 1960s and 70s by Swiss author Erich von Däniken.

The books explore a theory that alien visitations inspired ancient civilisations.

(someone is in-line for a "windfall" ;) )

Blackpool is a bit run down these days.

This could kill it.

*A bit run down” is putting it mildly.......I’d say that Blackpool is a festering, flea pit of a town!

As a relative of mine who lives in the area says "Welcome to Blackpool, arsehole of The North!"

I always wanted to see the Blackpool Illuminations as a child.

I have never done so.

I am a firm believer in the Joys of the British Seaside Town, even though I found Yarmouth rather run down.

That's been part of its recent seedy charm. The Pleasure Beach, (between lockdowns), is still going strong and is only really rivaled by Alton Towers.

I've no idea what it is with the North West and stupid theme parks though. It's not as if the area hasn't been burned, (to the taxpayer's delight), before.

Lancaster and Morecambe residents had the highest council tax in the country for years after this. It was just the lack of visitors to the park it was the failure to sue Edmonds afterward.

Arena Funfair Morecambe, (wasn't ever really a funfair from memory), which was opposite Frontierland.

Frontierland in Morecambe was a legit theme park back in the day that struggled with rebranding as people went to Blackpool instead.
