Baby Ripping (Killing Pregnant Mother; Stealing Unborn Child)

Foetus cut from murdered US woman

A 23-year-old pregnant woman has been found dead with her unborn baby cut from her womb, police in the US state of Massachusetts have said.

Police are trying to find the missing eight-month-old foetus, which they say could have survived with medical help.

Darlene Haynes was discovered on Monday by her Worcester city landlord, who had noticed a "horrifying smell".

Her body was in the bedroom closet wrapped in bedding and had apparently been there several days, police said.

The last known contact anyone had with Ms Haynes was on Thursday when she sent a text message to a friend saying she was having drinks with a friend in her apartment in Worcester.

The case is being treated as a murder, though the autopsy has not determined the exact cause of her death, police said. Ms Haynes was also found to have suffered head injuries.

It is not the first such case in the United States.

Lisa Montgomery was convicted two years ago of murdering Bobbi Jo Stinnett, whose foetus she removed. The baby girl survived.

There have been at least four other similar cases in the US.

Darlene Haynes was eight months pregnant at the time of her death
A baby who was cut from her mother's womb has been found alive two days after the woman's body was discovered, US police have said.

A woman who had the baby with her when found in New Hampshire was charged with being a fugitive from justice.

The girl was said to be in "fairly good health," according to Worcester police Sergeant Kerry Hazelhurst.

The body of her mother, Darlene Haynes, 23, was found in her apartment on Monday, apparently killed days before.

Police named the arrested woman as Julie Corey, 35, described as an acquaintance of Ms Haynes.

She was arrested at a shelter in Plymouth, New Hampshire, after staff became suspicious of her and notified police.

She had told staff she was the mother of the six-day-old baby, the Union Leader newspaper reported.

A male companion with her at the time was questioned by police, but was later released.

Darlene Haynes' body was found in her apartment in Massachusetts on Monday after her landlord noticed a "horrifying smell".

A post-mortem examination revealed that her foetus was missing, and that she had head injuries, but the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Toxicology tests were being carried out, Worcester Police Detective Captain Edward McGinn Jr said.

The last known contact anyone had with Ms Haynes was a week ago when she sent a text message to a friend saying she was having drinks with a friend in her apartment.

Ms Haynes had three other girls - aged 5, 3 and 18 months.

It is not the first such case in the US.

OMG! Now it's LEGAL!

Child taken from womb by social services
Exclusive: Essex social services have obtained a court order against a woman that allowed her to be forcibly sedated and for her child to be taken from her womb by caesarean section
By Colin Freeman

A pregnant woman has had her baby forcibly removed by caesarean section by social workers.
Essex social services obtained a High Court order against the woman that allowed her to be forcibly sedated and her child to be taken from her womb.

The council said it was acting in the best interests of the woman, an Italian who was in Britain on a work trip, because she had suffered a mental breakdown.
The baby girl, now 15 months old, is still in the care of social services, who are refusing to give her back to the mother, even though she claims to have made a full recovery.
The case has developed into an international legal row, with lawyers for the woman describing it as “unprecedented”.
They claim that even if the council had been acting in the woman’s best interests, officials should have consulted her family beforehand and also involved Italian social services, who would be better-placed to look after the child.

Brendan Fleming, the woman’s British lawyer, told The Sunday Telegraph: “I have never heard of anything like this in all my 40 years in the job.
“I can understand if someone is very ill that they may not be able to consent to a medical procedure, but a forced caesarean is unprecedented.
“If there were concerns about the care of this child by an Italian mother, then the better plan would have been for the authorities here to have notified social services in Italy and for the child to have been taken back there.”

The case, reported by Christopher Booker in his column in The Sunday Telegraph today, raises fresh questions about the extent of social workers’ powers.

It will be raised in Parliament this week by John Hemming, a Liberal Democrat MP. He chairs the Public Family Law Reform Coordinating Campaign, which wants reform and greater openness in court proceedings involving family matters.
He said: “I have seen a number of cases of abuses of people’s rights in the family courts, but this has to be one of the more extreme.

“It involves the Court of Protection authorising a caesarean section without the person concerned being made aware of what was proposed. I worry about the way these decisions about a person’s mental capacity are being taken without any apparent concern as to the effect on the individual being affected.”

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is an Italian national who come to Britain in July last year to attend a training course with an airline at Stansted Airport in Essex.
She suffered a panic attack, which her relations believe was due to her failure to take regular medication for an existing bipolar condition.
She called the police, who became concerned for her well-being and took her to a hospital, which she then realised was a psychiatric facility.

She has told her lawyers that when she said she wanted to return to her hotel, she was restrained and sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Meanwhile, Essex social services obtained a High Court order in August 2012 for the birth “to be enforced by way of caesarean section”, according to legal documents seen by this newspaper.

The woman, who says she was kept in the dark about the proceedings, says that after five weeks in the ward she was forcibly sedated. When she woke up she was told that the child had been delivered by C-section and taken into care.

In February, the mother, who had gone back to Italy, returned to Britain to request the return of her daughter at a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Her lawyers say that she had since resumed taking her medication, and that the judge formed a favourable opinion of her. But he ruled that the child should be placed for adoption because of the risk that she might suffer a relapse.

The cause has also been raised before a judge in the High Court in Rome, which has questioned why British care proceedings had been applied to the child of an Italian citizen “habitually resident” in Italy. The Italian judge accepted, though, that the British courts had jurisdiction over the woman, who was deemed to have had no “capacity” to instruct lawyers.

Lawyers for the woman are demanding to know why Essex social services appear not have contacted next of kin in Italy to consult them on the case.
They are also upset that social workers insisted on placing the child in care in Britain, when there had been an offer from a family friend in America to look after her.

An expert on social care proceedings, who asked not to be named because she was not fully acquainted with the details of the case, described it as “highly unusual”.
She said the council would first have to find “that she was basically unfit to make any decision herself” and then shown there was an acute risk to the mother if a natural birth was attempted.

An Essex county council spokesman said the local authority would not comment on ongoing cases involving vulnerable people and children.

I guess there were extreme extenuating circumstances at the time, but let's hope that it doesn't become a trend...

I wouldn't count on that. Social Services are part of the council after all... and do we even trust them to manage our refuse collection?

No.

That's so sad, I hope that this poor woman is getting the care she needs.

The cases on this thread seem to be mainly motivated by jealousy but there are online articles which suggest a horrible Asian tradition of ripping foetuses out of women to be used as talismans:

The foetuses are smoked in order to capture their spirits. The remains are then covered in gold leaf.

When I chanced upon this, I assumed it was a horrible myth but it appears to be well-documented.

Pregnant woman 'stabbed to death and baby surgically removed' by attacker
Police were called to the scene after being notified of a fight in the Wakefield neighbourhood of the Bronx in New York

A pregnant woman is believed to have been stabbed to death and her unborn child surgically removed by her attacker in New York.
Police were called to the scene after being alerted of a fight in the Wakefield neighbourhood of the Bronx on Friday afternoon, according to NBC.
Police reportedly found 22-year old Angelikque Sutton stabbed in the stomach multiple times.
The victim had also been strangled and the unborn baby removed from her womb, according to New York City councilman Andy King who was briefed by authorities on the case.

The alleged suspect claimed the child was hers and that she had given birth during the altercation, before being taken into custody, according to Mr King.

Miss Sutton was rushed to hospital where doctors were unable to save her.
New York Daily News reported the baby is healthy and unhurt and that Patrick Bradley, Miss Sutton’s boyfriend of eight years, tried to see the baby but was told he couldn’t because of the pending investigation.

It remains unclear if the attacker was connected to the victim.

The bumping of this thread caused me to re-read some of the pages I linked above.

There is a link on one of those pages to this website peddling Thai amulets.

The mangled English is fun for a while but the alleged ingredients are disturbing:

"Mae prai kanya was a lady which she was born on a special day, special month and special year on valentine day on feb 14. She was kind hearted in nature and loves to help people. She was also someone who possessed magic power. Unfortunely she was dead from an accident on tuesday So in the end she was burned on a saturday.
This was the main powder which lp jun obtained and made into the legendary khun pean which was super popular in thailand."

"Mae jaew the orinigal story came from Laos, when she was alive, the husband left her while she is pregnant, she was a person with a good heart and good soul. She always help people in need. Sadly she met with a accident while she was pregant and passed away.

Lersi payak made the nam man prai of mae jaew and control the spirit using pure Cambodia subject."

Edit 2: "All the ong ku batch of kumanthong had mix with more ingredient than normal pim , this red kmt had mix with blood of children , lp noi had invite and asked the spirit who are owner of the bpody of the children who had passed away to allow lp to took the blood and mixed into the amulet for double the power and double the effectiveness." From this page.

It makes the pungent oil of elephant penis sound relatively innocent!

Edit: More amulet jollies here:

"Material use for making Phra rahu amulets:
- one eye coconut powder
- ivory fruit beads inserted behind . . . "

Well I have heard of those Thai beads. I'm now wondering if the one eye coconut is a euphemism.

The victim and alleged killer were apparently best friends.

A crazed woman accused of murdering her best friend and cutting her unborn baby from her womb apparently told police "it's my baby".

Ashleigh Wade strangled mum-to-be Angelikque Sutton, who was almost nine months pregnant , before cutting her throat and stabbing her in the stomach, it's claimed.

The 22-year-old then ripped the child from the other woman's body and when officers arrived she tried to claim it was her own, investigators said.

Wade had apparently been lying to friends for months about being pregnant and even duped her own boyfriend, Angel Praylow, telling them she was due in November.

Another case.

A North Dakota woman convicted of killing her pregnant neighbor by cutting out the unborn fetus told a court that she did so because her partner pressured her to “produce a baby.”

On Tuesday, Brooke Crews gave her chilling testimony during the trial of her boyfriend William Hoehn. He stands accused of conspiring to murder 22-year-old Savanna Greywind, whose body was found dumped in a river.

While Hoehn admitted to helping Crews cover up the crime, he claims he did not know she had planned to kill Greywind and take the baby, The Associated Press reported.

Yet another disturbing case.

A pregnant teenager has been found dead in Chicago three weeks after her baby was cut from her body, police say.

Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, 19, was found strangled behind a house where she is alleged to have been lured to collect free baby clothes on 23 April. The baby boy, who is in critical condition, was taken to hospital the day she disappeared after a 46-year-old woman claimed to have given birth. DNA tests have now revealed Ms Ochoa-Lopez is the mother. Ms Ochoa-Lopez, whose surname has also been reported as Ochoa-Uriostegui, was nine months pregnant when she went missing.

Sadly the baby has died.

A baby boy who was cut from his mother’s womb with a butcher’s knife has died in hospital where he had been in grave condition since the April attack that killed his mother, the family said.

Family spokeswoman Cecilia Garcia confirmed a family statement posted on Facebook that 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez’s baby died at Christ Medical Centre in Oak Lawn, Chicago. A statement by family spokeswoman Julie Contreras expressed “great sadness” in announcing Yovanny Jadiel Lopez’s death and said he died from a severe brain injury. Prosecutors say Clarisa Figueroa, 46, claimed she had given birth to the baby when she took him to a hospital on April 23. Figueroa and her 24-year-old daughter Desiree have been charged with murder over Ms Ochoa-Lopez’s death.

Brazilian woman kills pregnant friend and steals baby from womb

A Brazilian woman has been sentenced to 57 years behind bars for beating her pregnant friend to death with a brick and stealing her unborn child from her womb, according to a report.

Flavia Godinho Mafra was killed when she was 36 weeks pregnant.

Rozalba Maria Grime, 27, lured Flavia Godinho Mafra, a 24-year-old teacher, on Aug. 27, 2020, to an old pottery site in the town of Canelinha, where she struck her several times on the head with a brick, killing her.

Grime then used a utility knife to slice open her friend’s belly and pull out the baby, before hiding the mom-to-be in a kiln when she died of a hemorrhage, the outlet reported. Mafra was 36 weeks pregnant.

After committing the heinous crime, Grime went with her partner — who believed she had been pregnant — to a hospital, where she told staff she had just given birth. But they were suspicious of her account and called the police.

Her partner, who was considered a suspect, was acquitted of any involvement on July 27.

During the 15-hour trial, Grime told the court how she had planned the crime and had researched how to remove the unborn child from the woman’s womb – as well as how to simulate the symptoms of pregnancy and childbirth.

Grime was convicted of aggravated murder, attempted murder of a baby, concealment of a corpse, obstruction of justice, abduction of a minor and denying the rights of a newborn.

Woman convicted of killing a woman to take her unborn baby

A Texas woman was convicted of capital murder Monday for killing a pregnant woman to take her unborn baby.

A Bowie County jury in northeast Texas deliberated about an hour before finding Taylor Rene Parker, 29, guilty of the October 2020 murder of Reagan Michelle Simmons-Hancock, 21, and the abduction of the daughter cut from her womb who later died.

The verdict of a jury of six men and six women came after three weeks of sometimes grisly testimony.

Parker’s attorneys argued that the baby was never alive and moved to dismiss a kidnapping charge, which would have lowered the capital murder charge to murder. ...

Fellow prosecutor Lauren Richards recounted all of the masquerades Parker performed for different people, including the pregnancy she faked leading up to the killing. ...

The punishment phase has been scheduled to begin Oct. 12. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, although jurors may opt for a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. ...

Young pregnant woman killed in the Mexican state of Veracruz and baby stolen from her womb

A 20-year-old woman, nine months pregnant, has been found dead in the Mexican state of Veracruz, after meeting with a woman she had met on the Internet, who after kidnapping her extracted the baby from her womb along with a man who has also been arrested.

Authorities said Saturday that the two people have been arrested as responsible for a crime of disappearance committed by private individuals and for allegedly committing a femicide.

The newborn has been rescued alive and subjected to a medical examination to verify that she is in good condition.

The young woman's family had reported her disappearance on November 30, after she did not return from an appointment with a woman she had met on the Internet and had offered to give her clothes as a gift.

Her body was found in the municipality of Medellín del Bravo and the Special Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Crimes of Violence against the Family, Women, Children and Human Trafficking has taken charge of the investigation.

The detainees will be presented at an initial hearing before the judge of the Veracruz judicial district in the next few hours to make their statements.
