The BBC is making a TV show about strange phenomena for air on the Discovery Channel in the USA later this year. The show will be charting strange events which have happened during 2001 and putting these in their historical context. We will be taking an objective view at strange occurrences and so are wanting to hear from sceptics and believers alike.
Themes to be covered include
Chupacabra
Ghosts
Loch Ness and other lake monsters
Lost civilisations
Sasquatch and Yeti
Strange coincidences
Strange weather
Urban myths
Vampires
but please note this list is not exhaustive and we are interested in any other subjects of relevance.
We are particular interested in
n Witnesses to strange events and possible sources of footage
n Anyone involved in professional investigations of such phenomena
n Anyone able to give an alternative perspective on the phenomena such as scientific explanations (e.g. mistaken identity or possible scientific ‘truth’) and psychological reasons for continuing belief in myths (e.g. mass hysteria, social ‘escapism’)
n Anyone able to give historical and cultural context to the stories.
Please note that we will be giving each of the subjects a fair hearing, weighing up both sides of the argument. We will neither be overtly sensationalist nor overtly cynical. For example, when dealing with the Yeti we will analyse the possibility of its existence suggesting that although the habitat seems unable to support an unknown primate historical records and recent DNA evidence suggest this reasoning may be ill founded.
If you are able to help in anyway (e.g. have been a witness, know of relevant experts, have access to footage) I’d be grateful if you could get in touch. Although this is an American programme I’m happy to hear from anyone worldwide.
