For $10,000, Woman Tattoos Ad on Forehead

By The Associated Press

Thursday, June 30, 2005

(06-30) 06:40 PDT SALT LAKE CITY, (AP) --

For $10,000, Kari Smith has gone ahead and had her forehead tattooed with the Web address of a gambling site.

Smith, 30, of Bountiful, sold her unusual advertising space on eBay. She said the money will give her 11-year-old son a private education, which she believes he needs after falling behind in school.

"For the all the sacrifices everyone makes, this is a very small one," she said. "It's a small sacrifice to build a better future for my son," she said.

"To everyone else, it seems like a stupid thing to do. To me, $10,000 is like $1 million. I only live once, and I'm doing it for my son," she said.

Tattoo artist Don Brouse said he and his staff spent nearly seven hours Wednesday trying to talk Smith out of putting "GoldenPalace.com" above her face. When he did go through with it, he kept the inch-tall letters close to her hairline, where bangs or a hat could provide some cover.

Smith's eBay auction attracted more than 27,000 hits and 1,000 watchers. Bidding reached $999.99 before Goldenpalace.com, an Internet gambling company in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Canada, met Smith's $10,000 asking price.

Three-Headed Ant Sells On eBay

POSTED: 7:36 am EDT July 14, 2005
UPDATED: 11:31 am EDT July 14, 2005

NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Want a three-headed ant? It's just another wacky item you can buy on eBay.

Christine Macri, of Newburgh, said she found the creature in her back yard this weekend. She said the three-headed bug is still alive.

The Times Herald Record of Middletown reports the starting bid for the ant on eBay is $99.

The experts are a bit dubious, however.

Philip Ward, an ant expert at the University of California Davis, suggested a reason for the three-headed appearance.

He said the bug is actually a normal ant, with the heads of two other ants attached to the antennae.

That's not stopping Macri from selling the freakish-looking creature. She's even placed the bug inside a small glass jar with tiny holes to keep it alive until a buyer comes along.

EBay - sea monster head

Another recently acquired artifact proving that unknown creatures still exist ! This is the head of a yet to be classified sea creature. Is this the missing evolutionary link between man and fish ? The skin of this head is some type of fish skin with scales. Strange fins adorn the sides and top of the head. The eyes seem to glow with a greenish light. If you look through the neck opening you can see the skull of the creature. This auction is not a joke ...the winner will receive the Sea Monster head shown in the photos below. This head is life sized, 11 inches tall. Preserved and made oderless.Could this be the head of a Mermaid ? Deserves serious scientific study. Payment must be made by Postal Money order only. Postage fee includes special packing & insurance. Thank you and good luck.

Enormous nuclear bunker for sale

A nuclear bunker made to house the government and civil servants in the event of nuclear attack is for sale.

The existence of the underground complex at Corsham, Wiltshire, was kept secret until recently, but the Ministry of Defence is now inviting buyers.

Built in the late 1950s, the bunker covers many acres and was decommissioned in the 1980s.

It is underground - more than 100ft (30m) down - and includes a pub, kitchen and BBC studio.

The MoD says it has received hundreds of enquiries, including two serious bids.

Despite being close to one of Britain's busiest railway lines, the facility was shrouded in secrecy for 50 years beneath non-descript government buildings.

In the 1950s as the threat of nuclear war intensified, the government pinned its hope for survival on buildings already used by the military.

If there had been an attack, the then prime minister Harold Macmillan and much of Whitehall would have been moved west to the bunker.

Nick McCamley, author of Secret Underground Cities, said in the past the government "simply refused to admit" the bunker existed.

"They gradually released documents about some of the other sites in the area, but as far as [this complex] was concerned it simply did not exist."

Chairs and office equipment are still stored there, in preparation for thousands of civil servants.

There are huge generators to provide power that might have been needed for weeks, boxes of paper and files, and enormous kitchens - all unused.

One of the largest telephone exchanges ever built would have linked to the regional government, which would also have been underground in the event of an attack.

Original Kinsey sign from the Institute for Sex Research

http://tinyurl.com/ce4ut

56_2.jpg

Currently at $760; bidding started at $200 US.

This is the original outdoor sign used by Kinsey's Institute for Sex Research when they moved to Indiana University's Jordan Hall in 1955. This is a one of a kind item and I have no idea where this auction will go so I have started with a low opening bid and no reserve. The sign is metal with plenty of surface rust and dirt. I have not tried to clean it and will leave any restoration effort up to the winning bidder. The sign weighs 15 lbs. and measures 20" high and 30" wide.

In 2004, Liam Neeson was the lead role in the movie Kinsey, a biography of the life and work of Alfred C. Kinsey. Alfred Charles Kinsey was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on June 23, 1894. Kinsey joined the department of zoology at Indiana University Bloomington in 1920 as an assistant professor. In 1935, Kinsey delivered a lecture to a faculty group at IU attacking the widespread ignorance of sexual structure and physiology. In 1947 the Institute for Sex Research, Inc. incorporated with Kinsey as the Director. The Institute was housed in Biology Hall (Swain Hall East). In 1948, Kinsey published his landmark work, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, which became a best-seller. In 1950, the Institute moved to Wylie Hall, the same year U.S. Customs in New York seized the Institute's pornographic materials being imported for research purposes. In 1953, Kinsey followed up with the companion publication, Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. In 1955, the Institute moved to Jordan Hall. In 1956, Dr. Kinsey interviewed his last 2 subjects. Altogether he personally took 7,985 of the approximately 18,000 sex histories gathered by the research team. He died August 25, 1956 at the age of 62. In 1967, the Institute moved to Morrison Hall. In 1981, The Institute for Sex Research was renamed "The Kinsey Institute for Sex Research" commemorating the 25th anniversary of Dr. Kinsey's death. The Institute changed its name again in 1982 to "The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction" to reflect its broadened research mission. The work of Alfred C. Kinsey is credited with being highly influential in developing the sexual freedom of the sixties and amongst those affected was Hugh Heffner, who regards Kinsey's work as a key influence on him in launching Playboy.

Well-worn plimsolls

These plimsolls have been used a lot for wearing and spanking.

They are very worn on the soles and uppers and have seen a lot of action but still have loads of wear left in them.

If you want to relive your schooldays then these plimsolls will do the trick.

$20 Bill Printed Over Sticker Nets $25,300

By MATT JOYCE
Associated Press Writer

DALLAS

A $20 bill printed on paper that mysteriously had an ordinary fruit sticker on it sold Friday for $25,300, an auction company official said.

The flawed note bears a red, green and yellow Del Monte sticker next to Andrew Jackson's portrait.

The buyer at the auction in Orlando, Fla., did not want to be identified, said Dustin Johnston, director of auctions for Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers of Dallas.

The 1996 bill originated at a U.S. Treasury Department printing facility in Fort Worth, but how the fruit tag found its way onto the paper of the greenback is unknown.

"I've collected for probably seven years now and nothing comes close to the way people react to it _ their eyes pop out," said Daniel Wishnatsky, a Phoenix currency collector who bought the bill online in 2003 for $10,100.

Jason Bradford, president of PCGS Currency in Newport Beach, Calif., authenticated that the error was genuine and not faked outside the printing plant.

Currency goes through three printing stages, Bradford said: first the back is printed, then the face, and then the bill receives serial number and treasury seal stamps.

In the case of the Del Monte note, the seal and serial number are both printed on top of the sticker, meaning the fruit tag must have found its way onto the bill midway through the process, he said.

The note, in nearly perfect condition, has achieved celebrity status among currency collectors, appearing on the covers of the Bank Note Reporter and Numismatic News.

On CNN (I think it was), they were talking about this and listed some other things that have accidently made it onto a bill. One of the things was half a roast beef sandwich. How does that happen?

Couple Puts Itself, Family Up For Lease On eBay

POSTED: 6:05 pm EST January 11, 2006
UPDATED: 8:00 pm EST January 11, 2006

WARWICK, R.I. -- Jojo Gator and Jackie Kidney want a new lease on life and they're taking that phrase literally.

The engaged Warwick couple, along with six other relatives, have put themselves up for lease on e-Bay -- $1.5 million for five years of service.

"It's two families for lease," Kidney said. "We all have different skills –- cooking, cleaning, auto service and landscaping."

Jojo and Jackie want to become someone's private staff in a tropical location. They got the idea after vacationing in Aruba when they realized they wanted a slower pace of life and an experience for their children.

They have five children from the ages of 1 to 17.

"I'm from Rhode Island and I've spent many, many winters up here," Gator said. "I'm done. I can't afford to live here anymore. It's really gotten that bad."

They've had a few serious inquiries.

"I got one e-mail from an agent,” Gator said. “The agent represents an entertainer and they might be interested in talking with us. If nothing else just for the publicity of an entertainer of buying this family.”

Gator and Kidney are serious about their offer and have even consulted a lawyer to come up with a service agreement.

"It spells out the payment plan," Gator said. "It spells out medical. It spells out room and board. We don't have to go anywhere that's not safe."

If their plan doesn't plan out, the couple has a back-up plan. They will leave Rhode Island in June and move to Shreveport, La., where Jackie has family.

Though Jojo and Jackie want to make one thing is clear.

"We're not for sale," Kidney said.

The bidding ends Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Twas also mentioned in yesterdays Metro paper.

:) I'm also struggling to find ANYTHING on the interweb about it either :?

And here it is!
