NAMIBIAN media report a strange muppet-like beast has been shot dead after a group stumbled across several of the creatures in dense jungle.

Locals came across the bizarre being while they were escorting a shooting party in Namibia, local media reported.

Witness’s state that the creature was spotted apparently foraging for food, one of the shooting party wounded it with his rifle and it escaped into the thick brush.

The locals tracked it to a nearby lair or nest where they found three more creatures of similar size.

The wounded creature attacked one of the shooting party and it was shot dead, the others escaped into the brush

The body of the creature was taken back to the local camp, police later removed its corpse and a full forensics investigation is under way.

EDIT: Disturbing photo removed by WJ.

:( That pic is rather disturbing, and it reminds me of medical photo's I've seen in the past, of severally disfigured people. Hmmm....

Looks like it's still alive when you look at its eyes.

This photo has done the rounds a few times now I think.

It looks like an anencephalic child.

Agreed. A very disturbing picture that I wish I hadn't seen. What total lack of respect with which this baby is being handled (by the neck), and then worse, to be labelled a muppet creature by the press. Appalling.

Does anyone else think it looks like a deformed human?

There is another thread on this picture.

I have seen a deformed human picture just like this, I will try and find it.

Wasn't there a widely disseminated deformed baby story out of Nepal (or Tibet, or somewhere in that vicinity) a year or two ago?

I reckon the real story behind it is that it's an ancephalic baby, dumped shortly after birth and discovered by these geezers. Just my theory mind.

The part I find strange is the lack of any such story in the Namibian press (at least for the last 2 - 4 weeks; I've checked).

However, I did find mention of the 10th baby dumping in Windhoek this year. I wonder if somehow that is the actual origin of this story.

Did some search.

I have found mention of this child (or whatever) back to august this year.

There has been reports of Dog-Headed Pig Monsters in Namibia earlier this year which might explain why this was thought to be a monster.

I don't think this story originated in Namibia. As I said this photo has been around for a long time.

Strange.

I did a photo search on Google. Uploaded it to Images search. There were no appearences of this photo before August 2012.

The Google search failed to match anything earlier than August 2012 because that's when a cropped version of the photo began to appear.

A more complete version of this photo (showing the creature's / child's whole body) appeared as early as 4 February 2012 on chan4chan.com.

That February photo is accessible at:

I've got to ask, what's a photo search? It sounds very handy.

Probably a Google image search?

Correct. If you got an image and want to find different sizes or similar looking, you upload it to Google and search for it.

So, what you're saying, "Old Rover", is that we can't teach an old dog new tricks?

...I'll get me hat....

Update for closure ...

I can find no trace of any reported results from the alleged forensic examination mentioned in the various news stories from autumn 2012 - most all of which clearly trace back to the Telegraph item cited above.

Based on the photo (especially the relative size of the man's hand holding the corpse) its height / length would see to be on the order ot 6 to 8 inches.

I'm pretty confident this specimen is actually a stillborn or recently-deceased newborn baby with anencephaly. Crudely put - anencephaly is arguably the most extreme form of the neural / skull insufficiency informally called "pinhead." The cerebrum and neocortex (seats of cognition) are woefully underdeveloped or entirely absent. Crudely put - an anencephalic infant is "brain-less" in the sense it lacks that portion of the brain to which we most strongly attribute our human faculties. This deficiency extends to perception as well; anencephalics who survive as far as live birth are blind, deaf, and typically unresponsive to external stimuli. Anencephaly is one of the rare conditions for which standard practice (in a live-born case) is to simply administer palliative care and await the inevitable.

The wait usually isn't long ... Survival beyond a few hours or a couple of days at the most is quite rare. A handful of modern era anencephalics (all within the last 10 years) have survived for 2.5 up to 8 years.

All the features visible in the photo are consistent with this extreme birth defect. The visible extension or flap at the back of the head (which some accounts compared with rabbit-style extra ears) would be the highly variable tissue mass(es) developed atop the head in lieu of a closed cranial vault.

All this naturally means the tale involving foraging, fleeing, and attacking is entirely bogus. My best guess is that the hunting party discovered a recent anencephalic corpse from the village mentioned and generated a tall tale around it.
