Blasphemy

Since when did Russia become so religious?
It wasn't that long ago they had enforced atheism.

The Orthodox Church has gained a lot of power. It was always there in the background in the USSR days, legally operating at a lower level.

Stephen Fry faces blasphemy probe after God comments
6 May 2017

Police in the Republic of Ireland have launched an investigation after a viewer claimed comments made by Stephen Fry on a TV show were blasphemous.
Officers are understood to be examining whether the British comedian committed a criminal offence under the Defamation Act when he appeared on RTE in 2015.

Fry had asked why he should "respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid god who creates a world.... full of injustice".
He later said he was not "offensive towards any particular religion".

According to a report in the Irish Independent newspaper, no publicised cases of blasphemy have been brought before the courts since the law was introduced in 2009 and a source said it was "highly unlikely" that a prosecution against Fry would take place.

Appearing on The Meaning of Life, hosted by Gay Byrne, in February 2015, Fry had been asked what he might say to God at the gates of heaven.

Fry said: "How dare you create a world in which there is such misery? It's not our fault? It's not right. It's utterly, utterly evil. Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid god who creates a world which is so full of injustice and pain?"

He went on to say that Greek gods "didn't present themselves as being all seeing, all wise, all beneficent", adding "the god who created this universe, if it was created by god, is quite clearly a maniac, an utter maniac, totally selfish".

etc...

On the basis of one complaint?

Well, that'll be an interesting one to watch.

Any comment would be superfluous.

A university lecturer in Pakistan has been sentenced to death for blasphemy.

Junaid Hafeez, 33, was arrested in March 2013 and accused of posting derogatory comments about the Prophet Muhammad on social media. Allegations of blasphemy are taken very seriously in Pakistan, and even an accusation is often enough to make someone a target for hardliners.

Mr Hafeez's first lawyer, Rashid Rehman, was shot dead in 2014 after agreeing to take on the case.

The lecturer has also spent years in solitary confinement, after repeated attacks by other prisoners.

Fricken madness, the poor chap can't even teach.

Couple who were framed spend six years on death row.

Shagufta Kausar and her husband Shafqat Emmanuel have spent the last six years in jail waiting for an appeal against their death sentence for "blasphemy" to conclude.

Now, the family of the poor Christian couple from the central Pakistani town of Gojra hope an end to their ordeal could be in sight, with a final hearing at Lahore High Court scheduled for Wednesday.

Their lawyer, Saif ul Malook, who also represented Asia Bibi, another Christian woman who had a death sentence for blasphemy successfully overturned, told the BBC the evidence used to convict the couple was deeply flawed.

But, he warned, that judges can be "fearful" of acquitting suspects, in case they are targeted themselves by extremists. Court proceedings have also slowed in recent weeks as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Only shows that the clerics have believers by the balls. Always had and probably always will do.

There is a real danger of the singer actually being hganged.

A musician in Nigeria's northern state of Kano has been sentenced to death by hanging for blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.

An upper Sharia court in the Hausawa Filin Hockey area of the state said Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, 22, was guilty of committing blasphemy for a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March.

Mr Sharif-Aminu did not deny the charges.

Judge Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani said he could appeal against the verdict.

The singer who is currently in detention, had gone into hiding after he composed the song.

Protestors had burnt down his family home and gathered outside the headquarters of the Islamic police, known as the Hisbah, demanding action against him.

Any idea what the blasphemy is that Yahaya Sharif-Aminu did/

It's a wonder the boy didn't get a death sentence.

The director of the Auschwitz Memorial in Poland has offered to serve part of the 10-year jail sentence given to a 13-year-old Nigerian boy for blasphemy.

Dr Piotr Cywinski said he and another 119 volunteers from all over the world would each serve a month in prison.
He personally asked Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to pardon the boy. The boy was convicted by an Islamic court of making uncomplimentary remarks about God during an argument with a friend in Kano state in August. The boy's lawyer later appealed against the sentence, saying it violated children's rights and Nigeria's constitution. He told the BBC that no date had been set for the appeal to be heard in court.

Kano is one of 12 Nigerian states practising the Sharia legal system alongside the country's secular laws. ...

I suppose even Nigeria's blasphemy laws don't include the execution of children, but would he not be excused for not knowing the implications of what he was saying at that age? Who thinks it's worth bothering the courts with this case anyway? I see floggings and amputations are another option, it's bizarre he should count himself lucky that he may "just" lose ten years of his life inside. What kind of God is pleased by this?

So many questions, but answers are thin on the ground.

This is entirely typical behavior from a nation founded by Islamic terrorists on the basis of promoting Islamic terror. This is the nation that announced its existence by murdering Mahatma Gandhi. Pakistan's people are the ancestors of the perpetrators of the largest genocide in human history. Pakistan can't even retain cordial relations with its own Muslim ethnic minorities, like the Balochistanis. It is a failed state that hid Bin Laden. Its primary export is trouble and it has only 1 friendly border... China...

Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu.

A virulently anti-Pakistani Indian Hindu who believed Gandhi to have met Pakistani demands.

More importantly, Alchopwn knows what will happen if he lapses into anti-Muslim ranting ("Pakistan's people?")

There will be no debate or discussion, we will simply ban his account permanently, delete the offending posts and block his access to the board.

I do not issue hollow threats.

..is a way too sweeping statement. By all means criticise a nation's Foreign Policy, but characterising an entire population in the same way is offensive to any people. To think that people would judge the entire US people on Trump's behaviour, or the UK's on Johnson's, would do both our nations a grave disservice.

Yithian is entirely correct in what he says, and I absolutely support any decision the moderator team may make in this matter.

Hang on there. What I am talking about is a matter of unequivocal historical record. In the year 1000 AD the Muslims invaded what we now call India and murdered 100 million+ people. For the next 500 years the population of India failed to grow by the standard 3% per annum, and in fact continued to drop slightly. This was due to the fact that Muslim princes were on record as having a hundred thousand Hindus publicly executed as a mark of faith every time one of their daughters was married. This is also the time when the Hindu Kush which literally means "Slaughter of Hindus" gets its name from the ruthless slaving conducted by the Muslims in the region. You are perpetuating the cover up of the largest genocide in history Stu. The people of Pakistan are in fact the descendants of the mass murderers in question and their own state was utterly responsible for the genocides that marked the partition of India. Gandhi had done everything in his power to convince the Muslims that all was forgiven and that they should remain part of a united India, but they murdered him and countless other Hindus in the process. Naturally, eventually, the Hindus retaliated, but they were not the instigators. Pakistan needs to take the blame for this long history of atrocious religiously motivated genocide. You want to be politically correct Stu? Great. Try supporting the people who were actually victimized. For example, would you say that the Jews weren't victims of the Nazis and the Germans weren't responsible? Would you say that the Turks weren't responsible for the Armenian genocide? Which side of history are you on Stu? You are the worst sort of PC thought police. The sort who wants to Bowdlerize history to protect the atrocity mongers.

I was going to answer this fully and point by point, but we've been down this road too many times.

You're permanently banned.

Atheists don't get upset if god botherers step on pics of Dawkins.

A heavy metal singer in trouble with Polish authorities over a photo of him stepping on an image of the Virgin Mary has launched a legal defence fund.

Adam Darski, known as Nergal, is appealing against a conviction of offending religious sentiment under Poland's blasphemy laws. He is appealing for donations in a crowdfunding campaign for Polish artists accused of blasphemy. Poland has one of the world's highest numbers of blasphemy and insult laws.

"For over a decade I have been persecuted and prosecuted at the hands of the Polish legal system. The time for capitulation is over," Nergal, who fronts the band Behemoth, wrote on Twitter.
