We've been obliged to remove a few posts recently and would like to clarify some simple points:
1. Claiming that a post is not political or disavowing the intention of making political points goes no way to indemnifying you when the material being posted (an image, article or video) is inherently political.
2) There is very limited scope for pulling non-political points from politicised material because there is a high chance that another member will either complain about the aspect you wish to de-emphasise or pick up one of those aspects and run with it in future posts.
3) The above applies equally to politically grounded jokes and humour--unfortunately.
If in doubt, send us a PM--you'll receive a quick reply.
But, to be honest, just use your head; and if in doubt, don't hit 'post'.
This is not an attack on the person who posted it, and few of you likely saw it the material as we removed it fairly soon after its appearance, but this has to be a learning moment.
On a thread in the GHOSTS sub-forum discussing belief and evidence, with the caveat at it was 'not political' was a link to the following:
The article that follows had some reasonable enough (if broad-brush for a lecturer in psychology) points about personality types and the propensities towards various mindsets and behaviours, but there is no way that the material can be used here as part of the argument--the whole thing is couched in examples and squabbles from contemporary political debate.
We have not issued any warnings in this case, but we do feel as if our signal is not being received if regular posters think that this could conceivably fall within the guidelines that are so regularly cited.
