Caught Red-Handed

I guess this experience isn't strictly paranormal, but I thought I'd post it here as it's just very strange and I cannot for the life of me explain it away.

I finished a night shift yesterday and awoke at the usual time early afternoon. Just as I got up, I noticed my right hand was covered in something red. My initial thought was shock as I thought that I'd cut myself in my sleep somehow. But as I studied it I could see it wasn't blood at all. My relief was quickly replaced by confusion- my hand appeared to be covered in red paint, a dried patch about 2 inches across that was splattered over my thumb and the back of my hand.

I assumed it must have happened before I went to sleep, so searched the house for any wet paint; perhaps my housemate had been touching up some surfaces and neglected to warn me. But its a small flat and I was quickly able to elimate that possibility. I retraced all my steps and couldn't find where this paint or whatever it was had come from. I even went out to my car and checked the steering wheel, doors, etc trying to find a source of this mark on my hand, but nothing.

Now, the paint or whatever it was definitely wasn't on my hand on the way home from work or when I first got home that morning, as I washed my hands thouroughly after using the toilet before bed and didn't notice anything. It somehow happened in my sleep or the short time between being in the bathroom and going to sleep.

Having ruled out stigmata(!), I'm worried that perhaps I'm sleep walking..? Which concerns me, since I was only wearing underwear and wouldn't really like my neighbours to see me wandering around outside like that. I've never slept walked before though, and it was freezing outside so this seems unlikely.

How did it get there??? For the record, when I took a shower before work that evening it washed off fairly easily, and seemed to be water based paint rather than oil based.

Hi father john ~ was there paint on your bedding at all? My guess is your housemate played a practical joke on you.

:?:

Hi. To the best of my knowledge no one else was in the flat during the day - or at least I hope not..! My flatmate leaves for work before I get back from night shift and he usually comes back from work a good couple of hours after I rise, this day being no exception. So I'm getting back to, and waking up in, an empty flat so to speak.

There was no paint on my bedding or indeed anywhere else in the flat - just this blotch of red paint over the back of my hand and thumb. I'm calling it paint but it could have been any similar substance. I smelt it before I washed it off and it reminded me of the smell of poster paint if that's any help.

I'm sure there's a rational explanation, but this has been completely baffling me!! It's just so bloody random.

Things like this are the reason I have myself under video surveillance at all times!

Someone--may have been Emps--posted a similar story awhile back about having inexplicably red hands...I'll see if I can dig up a link.

*comes back scowling*

I wish the search engine would just let us search thread titles.

Very odd, a lesser mortal would suggest you sleepwalk and gave the local GPO postbox a quick touch-up while you where there :)

Oh no. This is going to keep me up all night wondering what the hell happened to you!

I woke up one morning and noticed that all the log books on the boat had been filled in in the name of Rudolph, it later became evident that someone had red nosed half the crew with an ink pad while we were asleep, myself included.

If you are so positive about this, here's a somewhat similar story that I recently heard. There is a famous haunted pub/dining lounge in St. Louis (unless I'm mistaken about the location) established in a former brewery. Years ago, three members of a family who owned the building had committed suicide there. So it's got quite a reputation. Anyway, there was a patron who in the presence of dozens of other customers sitting around began mocking the resident ghosts and behaved in a disrespectful way. He was sitting holding his hands under the table. And suddenly he threw his both hands up in the air screaming in terror. Everyone turned around and looked at him - and saw that his hands were smothered in butter. Not just slightly greased but fully smothered. He was terrified and in front of all the witnesses ran out of the bar never to return again.

So, it could well have been the resident polty playing with you. Is there anything else out of the ordinary at the flat?

Father john, I just stumbled across this post and am glad I did. Something similar happened to me about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, you are not going to like what I tell you.

I, like you, went to bed one night and when I woke in the morning I had reddish brown stains on my left hand. Mostly on my fingers as I recall. It was most definitely not there when I went to sleep. I did not get up in the night for any reason.
It did not even really resemble paint, but was rather really deeply deposited into my skin. No amount of washing or scrubbing with anything would remove it.
I was completely puzzled and being the internet-hound that I am, began looking it up online. The only thing I could find was this: (brace yourself)

People who are abducted by aliens OFTEN return with red colored stains on their skin and sometimes their clothing.
Just knowing this freaks me out. The stains on my hand faded away completely after a few days and have thankfully never returned.
I am not saying I was abducted. I am not saying you were. I am saying I had stains, you had stains, and abductees have stains.
God help us.

You know, with CSI on TV and everything we now know about dna testing and such, you people with unexplained stains could scrape off a few SAMPLES!!!

Redhead, that's really weird, I'd never heard that before. Scary.

Father John, I noticed you said you went all day without washing this stain off? Was this on purpose? You could have used tape to remove some of it.....

Hmmm..

Perhaps this thread should slip through a wormhole into the UFO forum!

But despite having read a lot of abduction stuff before, I don't recall this 'staining' being mentioned, except in cases where radiation burns seemed to be involved. Can you give us any links to 'stains' stories, Redhead?

Sure.

Halfway down this page under :NEW JERSEY ABDUCTIONS WITH DERREL SIMS COMMENTS.:

And one of the world's most famous abduction cases....about 3/4 way down the page. ( stains on her dress):

There are lots of links to this on the net.

One morning I woke up with a bluish tinge -- face, hands, etc. Hubcap, had it, too. I thought we had been asphyxiated by the gas water heater or something.
Traced it to the fact that I had put brand new, unwashed flannel sheets on the bed the night before. The blue dye had done the job.
(Or ... Could you have had a nose bleed during the night? Roof leak that dripped housing material onto your hand? )

In my case, it wasn't unwashed new sheets or anything like that. Believe me, I searched high and low for a reason for the stains and came up with nothing.

How about you, Father John?

Thanks for the links, Redhead.

So we have two people on this thread who've had this experience.

In view of the references you've given, I now seriously think this thread should be in Ufology, where more specialised readers might see it and comment. Mods!

Sorry, but I just have to comment... as far as I'm concerned, the stains on her hands are not proof positive she was abducted by aliens. ONE post mentioned it, is it necessary to interrupt a good discussion to suggest catagorizing everything into the proper thread? Actually, there is a thread FOR that, Help With Reorganization, Web Site issues, maybe you should post future concerns there. Sorry to seem abrupt, but this is one of my pet peeves. Talk about off-topic diastractions! ARGH!

Never fear rynner did PM me about it too (although if anyone is going to post a suggsted move on the baord then the master is right ;) ).

We won't be moving it anytime soon I suspect although I am consulting on it (I'll count the above as a no vote ;) )..

Quite agree. But that doesn't mean we can't discuss it within that context.
ONE post mentioned it...
Both Redhead and Father John have experienced it, and there is evidence on the web that such stains are one common factor in reported abduction experiences.

It can be discussed here, or in Ufology - I leave that to the Mods.

Perhaps leave this thread where it is, but put a link in the UFO section? (I don't think the board can do that, it'd take the creation of a new placeholder thread in the UFO section with a summary and a link back to this thread.)

Abduction was one possible scenario raised as a potential "explanation".
