  • 26 November 2019
Four teenagers who threw bricks at sheep and snapped off their horns have been given community sentences.
The girl and three boys - aged between 13 and 15 - chased the animals at Alver Valley Nature Reserve in Gosport before the attacks on 30 April.
[...]
Officers discovered Shetland sheep with their horns missing and some with serious eye injuries after being called to reports of children throwing bricks at animals.
Anna Presswell, a police staff investigator for Hampshire Police, said the animals were all "visibly shaking and panting" when officers arrived at the scene.

A security guard has been charged after nine cats were killed and seven others were seriously injured in the Brighton area.

Steven Bouquet, 52, is charged with 16 counts of criminal damage over the alleged attacks carried out between October 2 2018 and June 1 2019. Sussex Police said he was also charged with possessing a knife in public on June 2. Bouquet, from the London Road area of Brighton, has been bailed to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 23.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the criminal damage charges do not detract from the seriousness of the allegations. Cats and other animals are considered as property under legislation and criminal damage can attract a heavier sentence than animal cruelty.

Could he have been in the vicinity of the more infamous suspected cat killer we were told didn't exist a few months ago?

Two pet rabbits have been badly burned after their hutch was deliberately set alight.
The incident happened at around 03:10 on Thursday at a property in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.
Emergency services were called to Forman Drive, Clerkhill, and extinguished the fire, which left the two rabbits badly singed.
Police described the incident as a "reckless and cruel act" which left the pet owners shaken.

This might be a case of cruelty to animals or maybe the cat killed the snakes and one of them got in a last bite.

Three pythons and a cat have been found dead in the same wooded area in South Lanarkshire.

A member of the public found the first snake at about 10:30 on 18 December, between Carstairs and the Clyde Valley nursing home. Two further snakes and a black and white cat were found in the same spot three days later. Animal welfare officers have called the discoveries "unusual" in their appeal for information. The snakes are all adult royal python and are about one metre (40 inches) in length. The cat was not micro-chipped.

FLOYD CO. MAN ARRESTED FOR SKINNING DOGS TO MAKE “DOGGY COAT”

We first reported on twenty horses deliberately shot and killed.

Now comes this, Kentucky State Police say 38-year-old Jonathan D. Watkins is accused of killing his neighbor’s dogs and ‘skinning’ them.

We must warn you the details are graphic.

It was December 23rd when state troopers responded to a complaint in the David community of Floyd County.

The caller told them his neighbor, Jonathan Watkins, had killed his two dogs, skinned them, and had the skins and carcasses hanging off his front porch.

“Apparently he made a statement that he was making a fur coat out of the dogs’ hides,” says KSP Post 9 Public Affairs Officer, Trooper William Petry.

The neighbor, Joshua Vick, told troopers he later saw four animal skins on Watkins’ front porch along with two skinned dog carcasses. He notified troopers one of their other neighbor’s two dogs were missing. Two others in the area also witnessed the animal skins and carcasses on his porch, according to KSP.

State police say Watkins admitted in graphic detail to killing his neighbors’ dogs, saying he stabbed them in the heart and threw the carcasses over the hill when he was done skinning them. Investigators say they found two skinned carcasses.

Did that come from nowhere do we think?
We looked into his lengthy criminal history. His rap sheet is five pages long with charges ranging from assault to murder of a police officer, who was his stepfather, Albert Bloomfield – a Magoffin County deputy jailer.

That 2013 case was eventually dismissed after a psychiatric evaluation found him not responsible.
Not responsible so what? You just let him go?:wtf:
This might be a case of cruelty to animals or maybe the cat killed the snakes and one of them got in a last bite.
Though the second and third snakes were found in the same spot as the first but later on. Having visited a reptile rescue centre, they say there that a lot of pure scumbags own big snakes as it makes them look hard. Reptiles are not protected like fluffy things so they can be as cruel as they like and never be prevented from owning more. :( If they ever find this person they may be able to get them on the cat.

Update.

A security guard has denied killing nine cats in a spate of night time attacks in the Brighton area.

Steven Bouquet, 53, of Rose Hill Terrace in Brighton, East Sussex, is also accused over attacks that left seven other cats seriously injured. He appeared in the dock at Brighton Magistrates' Court. Mr Bouquet is charged with 16 counts of criminal damage and one of possession of a knife which relate to incidents between 2 October 2018 and 1 June 2019.

The charges follow a spate of attacks on cats around the city, which the prosecutor David Holman said took place mostly at night.

Really nasty stuff.

Marine authorities in the U.S. are offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the criminals responsible for the deaths of two dolphins.

Last week, biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission discovered a dead dolphin off the coast of Naples, with what appeared to be a gaping gunshot wound or stabbing injury from a sharp object. The same week Florida’s Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge recovered a dolphin with a bullet in its left side on Pensacola Beach. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) office of law enforcement has put up the reward. The organization’s southeastern office believes these cases may stem from humans feeding wild dolphins.

“Dolphins fed by people learn to associate people and boats with food, which can put them in harmful situations,”

Hamster factor

I strongly suspect an animal lover was not involved. Anyway, the cowards who did it remain a mystery, as do their motives.

I kept forgetting to post the news story about the Polish man the other week who got drunk and took on a bear in Warsaw Zoo, but having watched half the video of it on YouTube just now, I don't think I'll bother. It was really unpleasant, made more so by the video uploader treating this animal cruelty as one big joke. The drunkard was arrested, at least.

I used to be a projectionist for a film lab in Canada. I screened footage for a commercial once, for one of those "liquid vacuum cleaner" things. They decided to show how safe it was by showing a goldfish flopping around in a puddle of water on a table, then sucking it up. The body of the vacuum was transparent, so you could see it was safe & efficient . The 1st take worked great. 2nd - Mr. fish looks a little tired. 3rd take - it's dead.
So they brought on a replacement. But he wasn't jumping as high on the table as the first one (they looked the same, so they wanted to combine the footage of both).
So they started poking it with a surgical probe....

Happy ending though. As far as I know the commercial never got aired. So somebody somewhere got hit in the one vulnerable spot those sort of people have... their pocketbook.

An angry animal rights group in Malaysia is offering a reward to trace the yob who painted a stray dog orange and black so it resembled a tiger.
Persatuan Haiwan Malaysia, the Malaysia Animal Association, launched an appeal for information after the painted pooch was spotted walking down a street.
The group has now called on members of the public to come forward with any information which could help catch the culprit.

That's showing some incredible attention to detail for a "yob". I'm not condoning it, but he must have been using a very patient dog as well.

This is awful. Horse slashers have been at work in France over the last several months. :(

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54046156

Police in France have launched a manhunt for two suspects after the latest in a spate of horse mutilations.
Forty officers have flown by helicopter to the town of Losne, near Dijon, after a horse was attacked on Sunday morning.
Dozens of horses have been killed or maimed around the country this year, prompting public outcry.
Police do not know why the animals are being targeted, nor whether it is the work of one person, or if initial attacks have inspired copycat killings.

"Copycat killings". What kind of mind is it that hears about horse slashings on the news and thinks, "Now there's a great idea!"? Do people really need to lash out like this? Is it a pathetic power trip?

It might be some loser who is envious of people who can afford a horse.

“Police in France have made several arrests as part of an investigation into more than 30 killings and mutilations of horses across the country.

Interior minister Gerald Darmanin announed the development as he said more officers would be put on night patrols in affected areas.

The only details reported are that a 50-year-old jobless man has been arrested in the Haut-Rhin of eastern France.”

lt’ll be interesting to see how this all pans out. Frankly, l was expecting it to be announced that all or most of the injuries were from horse-on-horse fights, or caused by collisions with wire fences or sheet metal, etc. Perhaps there‘s more to this series...

I don't know what to say. At the same time extremely disturbing but also great attention to detail. And a very compliant dog. My terrier would have had your hand off before you completed the first stripe.

I don't usually read these threads. I can't endure atrocities. Y'all are better than me to keep the up.

Some sick people about.

US wildlife authorities have launched an investigation after a manatee was discovered with the word 'Trump' scraped on its back.

The marine mammal was spotted on Sunday in Florida's Homosassa River, with the US president's surname on its body. Officials told AP news agency that the animal does not appear to be seriously injured, and the word was scraped onto algae growing on its skin.

But a video of the West Indian manatee has led to public outcry.

Manatees, nicknamed "sea cows," are protected under US law, and anyone found guilty of harassing them faces up to a year in prison and a $50,000 (£37,000) fine.

Images of the animal was first shared by the Citrus County Chronical, a local newspaper, and have been widely shared on social media.

Hond slachtoffer van gehaktbal met punaises in bos in Vorden | NU - Het laatste nieuws het eerst op NU.nl

On Saturday, the police pointed out to dog owners that several meatballs with pins were found in the Enzerinck forest in Vorden (Gelderland). At least one dog got those prods in.
The police in the municipality of Bronckhorst write in a message on Facebook that they have received two reports about meatballs with colored tacks in the vicinity of the forest.

The dog, which received pins, was rushed to a veterinarian, who made the animal vomit. "This is how the dog survived," police wrote. "This could have ended very differently."
The police are calling on people who find such meatballs to report them.
