ISIS has stepped up the use of children in its bloody campaign of terror, the United Nations says -- subjecting them horrors that include putting price tags on them to sell as slaves. ...

In reference to Iraq, at least, the U.N. report found that the terrorist group is resorting more and more to brutal acts such as enslaving, raping, beheading, crucifying and burying people alive. Some of those affected are children.

"We have had reports of children, especially children that are mentally challenged, who have been used as suicide bombers, most probably without them even understanding what has happened or what they have to expect," said Renate Winter, an expert with the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Indeed, I shudder to remember that in my younger, wilder days I believed that the Red Army should use tactaical nuclear weapons against the Mujaheddin.
I don't believe there was a song that went...
'All we are sayiiiiiiing
Is give nukes a chance.'

Libya is the latest IS battleground - 21 Coptic Christiasn beheaded at the weekend. And still Obama - and the rest of the West - sits on his hands, reluctant to confront the barbarians who are now truly at the gates:

Islamic State 'planning to use Libya as gateway to Europe'
Exclusive: Jihadists hoping to use Libya as a "gateway" to wage war across the whole of southern Europe, plans by Isil supporters reveal

Islamic State militants are planning a takeover of Libya as a "gateway" to wage war across the whole of southern Europe, letters written by the group's supporters have revealed.

Appeasement of radical Islam at home and abroad has demonstrably failed. It's time for the secular democracies and the rest of the civilised world to state clearly that we will defend our way of life to the last soldier and the last bullet. We spend hundreds of years working to free ourselves from clerical oppression and we have no intention of surrendering to the new form of theocratic fascism.

Sadly I cannot imagine any current leader making such a bold statement and instead the apologism and obfuscation will continue, while the slaughter goes on at Europe's southern border and the freedom for those of us in the West to criticise and to mock certain belief systems is gradualy extinguished.

I never thought I'd ever say this but we could do with Margaret Thatcher now.

It was the ham-fisted intervention in Libya which brought these fundies to their position of strength. Yet stil the US and UK fund "moderate" fundies in Syria.

Heres an interesting article regarding a woman who served in the first post Qadaffi cabinet. She deals with the lies and propaganda which preceded the intervention. The same sort of lies are still being directed against the Secular Syrian regime.

... Dr Hamroush blamed media for the current chaos in Libya.

“Media led it. Social media, al-Jazeera, and other channels, but al-Jazeera and social media were at the top of it. They spread fear at that time [2011] and that’s what led to the army raid of Nato and France. “

Media propagated baseless rumours about the rape of thousands of women by Libya’s army; that it was using mercenaries; and that it was on its way to conduct a massacre in the east of the country, she said.

“There was no basis whatsoever,” for the Nato air raids that followed, she said.

“The damage was the destruction of all the defence force of Libya, total destruction,” she said. “On top of that, because the army forces were given orders not to attack civilians, they had no choice but to leave the camps, just evacuate and go, and left all the artillery behind. [This] was then taken by militias and Islamic extremists and criminals who fled the jails.” ...

Dr Hamroush calls for intervention but is wary:

Today there is no state in Libya, she said, just two competing governments and two parliaments that have no power “because the actual power is in the hands of the militias. What should be done is enforce disarmament,” she said ...

Europe should assist the Libyan people in this, as should the UN, but based on the best interests of the Libyan people, she said. However, any decision involving the deployment of peacekeepers should be made by the Libyan people, she said.

“If peacekeeping forces are to come, they should be clear they are not occupiers. Once foreign boots come on the ground it’s very hard to get them out, and that’s the fear of Libyans,” she said.

The priority must be “disarmament and dialogue.”

She believes there is a need for military rule for a period:

Libya’s former health minister has called for the introduction of martial law in that country and the setting up of a coalition government.

Ok then President Obama, stop funding "moderate" fundamentalist militias in Syria. Put the resources into striking against ISIS.

US President Barack Obama says the US is "not at war with Islam - we are at war with the people who have perverted Islam".

He was speaking to representatives from 60 nations attending a three-day event on extremism that follows attacks in Denmark and France.

Mr Obama said the world had to confront the ideologies that radicalise people. He said those heading groups like Islamic State and al-Qaeda were not religious leaders but terrorists. Mr Obama said associating Islamic State or al-Qaeda with Islam would be buying into the propaganda of those groups, challenging critics who have questioned him for not describing recent attacks as the work of "Islamic radicals". ...

Pointless platitude.
Anything more specific?
May as well say that you're against 'Bad Muslims'.
Obama seems very reluctant to identify the source of the violence and oppression sweeping large parts of the world. Similarly, he is reluctant to identify their victims - he was careful not to acknowledge that the people murdered in the kosher supermarket in Paris were killed for being Jews and their was no mention that the 21 Copts beheaded at the weekend were murdered for being Christians. Instead we have had a lot of whataboutery concerning the Crusades and the Jim Crow laws.

I used to laugh at Tea Party crazies who claimed Obama was himself Muslim but his refusal to acknowledge the source of the problem makes me wonder whether his formative years in Indonesia have perhaps influenced his perceptions on this.

Just remember that the vast majority of the victims of the Islamists are Muslims.

Obama hasn't been restrained, hes following bad strategies on bad advice. Arming of supposedly "moderate" Islamists keeps back-firing yet the US continues with it.

Currently that is the case but historically I'm not at all sure it was. Millions of Hindus were put to the sword during Islamic expansion into India and, later, there was attempted genocide of the Sikhs. ISIS is trying to recreate those days with its slaughter of Christians and Yazidi.

The majority of victims currently are Muslim because of the areas in which the Islamist groups are operating but if they do come to Europe the figures will change.

I agree that the US strategies with regard to Syria, Libya and other places have been woeful. But I think that unless world leaders are prepared to acknowledge what the problem actually is and where it is coming from we have no chance of defeating it. Talking about the Crusades simply reinforces Islamic grievances.

For four months, the B-1B bombers of the U.S. Air Force’s 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron relentlessly hit Islamic State fighters in eastern Kobani from the air, slowly watching the line of control in that city swing back to Washington’s Kurdish allies.

The air tactics developed over Kobani, senior U.S. officials said, will hopefully prove to be a model of what close communication between an allied force on the ground and American aircraft in the skies can do. The lesson of Kobani, officials said, will be tried again when moderate Syrian rebels trained by the U.S. enter the fight against the Islamic State militants inside other parts of Syria.

The 9th Bomb Squadron deployed to the American air base in Qatar in July, prepared to close out the combat phase of the Afghanistan war and Operation Enduring Freedom, which formally ended in December.

But when President Barack Obama announced the U.S. would begin airstrikes first over Iraq and then Syria, the squadron’s mission expanded. While the planes flew regularly over Afghanistan, the bulk of the ordnance dropped by the aircrews was over the Syrian town of Kobani. ...

From the West Britton:

RAF jet fighters were scrambled to warn off two Russian bombers from the Cornish coastline yesterday.
The incident has been confirmed by the Ministry of Defence, and follows months of increased
tension between Russia and the west.
