I was told by the owner of a shop specializing in scaly beasts and their care that one of his clients had a full-sized adult iguana that he had had since it's infancy. The iguana slept on the bed like a dog and ran to welcome its owner when he came into the house. The house had a picture window on a small rise overlooking a beach. One night a burglar broke in, the iguana came into the living room to say hello, and the burglar caught it in his flashlight and went right through the window. The owner came into the shop with photos and for advice on special treats for the iguana.

I was listening to Radio 2 at teatime and the presenter Rylan Clark Neal told the story of how he was mugged by a fox. He was walking home through the countryside and saw a fox up ahead, they eyed each other for a few seconds and the fox advanced. Somehow Rylan managed to drop his wallet during this, the fox picked it up and ran away, never to be seen again. So he was mugged by a fox.

Elephant taking the piss?

A tourist was trampled to death by an elephant in a national park in Uganda after he got out of the car he was travelling in.

The deceased, a Saudi national, was passing through the Murchison Falls National Park to Arua city with colleagues when they stopped to relieve themselves.

A herd of elephants charged at them and the deceased, who had moved further away from the vehicle, was unable to return.

The incident happened on Tuesday night but was widely reported on Wednesday.

The park authorities confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing.

Unfortunately, the crofters own hardly any guns and have no shooting skills anyway.

Actually, they could tear up the countryside and plant windfarms, those things kill thousands of birds a year, why not geese?

A pair of fighting goats blocked off the entrance to a supermarket car park.

A herd of Great Orme goats were seen at Asda in Llandudno, Conwy county, with one pair locking horns at the traffic lights.

Nurse Michelle Evans, who saw them, said: "They were having a right scrap and making a heck of a noise. It sounded like one was hurt."

Conwy council said it could not remove the goats as they were on private property.

Ms Evans added: "They were really going at it. The two goats fighting had their horns locked while the rest of the herd was just watching. People were beeping their horns because they couldn't get in or out of Asda. In the end, people just drove around them. You don't expect to see that when you go to pick up your shopping!"

A woman who got stuck 18ft up a tree while trying to retrieve an escaped pet parrot has been rescued by firefighters in Wiltshire in the UK.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews used a 12-metre ladder to help her to safety on Saturday morning.

The fire service said: “We of course understand the emotional attachments to pets of any species, but please take this incident as a reminder of the danger posed by attempting to rescue without any specialist assistance.”

Crews from Trowbridge, Chippenham, Warminster and Devizes were sent to help the woman after they received a call from a member of the public.

“Once in attendance Trowbridge crew confirmed only one other fire engine was required so that a 12m ladder could be used to assist the member of the public to safety,” the service said.

Past inspection reports suggested the petting zoo called Shirley Farms, located in Obion County, had little water for the dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius) and no barrier to protect the public or attendant present at the time of an inspection. After receiving a call about a loose camel attacking people, Obion County sheriffs arrived at the zoo, which is about 100 miles (160 kilometers) from Memphis.

The seemingly aggressive camel attacked one of the Obion sheriff's vehicles and then moved toward deputies who were trying to move a victim to EMS ... As for why the escaped camel was so aggressive, that is unknown; however, in general, camels show little aggressive behavior except between males during mating season ...

Zipped off at a sloth's pace.

When a boy started his zip-line ride on Sunday in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, the tour guide reminded him not to break. But the boy wisely ignored that tip when he suddenly saw a sloth hanging from the cable mid-zip, slowing down but still bumping into the creature. "It's a sloth!" he called out.

Fortunately, this sloth didn't want any trouble and immediately started making its way down the cable ahead of the boy. But, moving at a sloth's pace, it took about 15 minutes before the cable was clear and the boy could continue, according to Storyful. Neither the sloth nor the boy were injured.

A captive tiger at a Florida tourist attraction mauled an unfamiliar worker who entered the tiger's area.

A tiger mauled a worker Tuesday afternoon at a Florida airboat attraction, officials said.

The attack occurred at Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Tours in Ochopee ... According to Wooten’s website, the attraction includes an animal sanctuary that features two tigers, two lions, otters, turtles, crocodiles and alligators.

A caretaker was feeding a tiger in its enclosure when another worker who wasn't authorized to be with the tiger entered the enclosure, deputies said. The tiger attacked the 50-year-old man and caused injuries to both of his arms, officials said.

The man was transported to a hospital. Officials didn't immediately disclose his condition.

The tiger’s caretaker was able to safely contain the big cat, officials said. The tiger was not injured.

The ... vehicle's rear hatch had been left open overnight, and the javelina had climbed in to raid a bag of Cheetos that was left inside the car.

The animal's antics inside the vehicle caused the rear hatch to close, trapping the javelina inside.

The javelina's attempts to escape the car led to it being shifted into neutral, rolling out of a driveway and crossing a road before coming to a stop ...

The deputy opened the vehicle's rear hatch, allowing the javelina to escape unscathed. The animal caused damage to the car's dashboard and the interior of the passenger side door.
