Dog caught on camera activating stove, causing house fire

Security cameras inside a Missouri home recorded the moment a dog turned on the kitchen stove, starting a fire that severely damaged the house.

The Kansas City Fire Department and Southern Platte Fire Protection District responded to a house fire .. and they rescued two dogs, who were the only occupants of the structure at the time of the fire. ...

Firefighters reviewed security camera footage from inside the home and discovered one of the dogs had stood on its hind legs to investigate a pan on the stove and inadvertently turned on the heat.

Investigators said the pan still had food in it from a previous meal and the heat caused a grease fire about 8 minutes after the canine activated the stove.

The dogs were not injured, but the damage to the home was severe ...

You'd think a zookeeper would know better!

Zookeeper dies after tiger savages his arm in horrifying video after he stuck his hand through fence

A keeper in a private zoo has had his arm ripped off by a tiger after he put his hand through a fence to stroke the animal during feeding time.
A keeper in a private zoo was fatally mauled when he put his hand through a fence to stroke a tiger during feeding time.
Horrific footage of the attack shows the big cat sinking its claws into his hand and pulling his arm into its mouth. The Sun reports.

The keeper – named as Jose de Jesus – reportedly died in hospital after the attack in Periban, western Mexico.

The video shows the 23-year-old beckoning the Bengal tiger over to a chain-link fence.

But as he starts to stroke the beast’s neck, its mood flips and it suddenly savages his right hand.

As Jose screams in agony, the tiger pulls his hand towards its jaws and razor-sharp teeth.

I think zookeepers can forget the potential for this kind of thing when they have a good relationship with the animal. In that sense, the untrained have a healthier attitude toward dangerous animals. Unless they're stupid, of course.

Then again, I once touched a lion. What does that say about me?

Woman eaten by her cats

The cat breeder had been dead for two weeks at least before she was finally found, half eaten by her beloved giant Maine coon cats.

Police found her partially eaten body surrounded by the cats, in the Bataysk, Russia.

Her gruesome end was only discovered after an employee contacted the police after she was unable to get in touch with her.

Once in Thailand (as a teen) I climbed into a cage to have a polaroid taken of myself with a chained (and no doubt drugged) tiger. I'm mortified by the scenario now in so many ways.

My experience was under controlled conditions. The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas used to have live lions in glass cages on the casino floor. They spent most of their lives on a ranch far out of town, but the owners wanted the cubs to become accustomed to seeing strangers in their occasional trips to the city. They came up with the idea of allowing people to pose for pictures with them. My wife and I took a picture touching a lioness about 4 months of age, by my estimation only a few days away from being too dangerous to meet strangers.

Lets get some dogfish to chase off the catfish.

A child in Florida was rushed to a hospital on Monday after being stabbed in the chest by a catfish, according to officials.

On the way to the hospital with the mother, the child experienced difficulty breathing, prompting the mom to pull over on “US-19 to call for help,” according to a Facebook post from Pasco County Fire Rescue. Firefighters responded to the call, listing the child as a trauma alert after evaluating that the catfish barb was “lodged approximately 1-1.5 inches in the child’s chest.”

The child was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

Corey Dierdorff, a spokesperson for Pasco County Fire Rescue, told Tampa Bay Times it was unknown whether the catfish was venomous. “That’s another reason they transported in the way that they did,” he said.

Sadly a child died and it's likely that children were injured.

At least four people have been killed and more than 300 were injured after a stand collapsed during a bullfight in central Colombia.

Footage showed the three-storey wooden stand filled with spectators falling at a stadium in El Espinal, Tolima department.

A bull continued to roam the ring as people fled the wreckage.

The traditional "corraleja" event involved members of the public entering the ring to engage the bulls.

The dead included two women, a man and a child, Tolima Governor Jose Ricardo Orozco said. The region's health official said hospitals had treated 322 people of whom four were in intensive care. Sunday's event was part of celebrations of the popular San Pedro festival.

Outgoing President Ivan Duque said there would be an investigation, while President-elect Gustavo Petro urged local officials to ban such events.

"I ask mayors not to allow more events involving the death of people or animals," he said.

It was not the first time such an accident had happened, he added.

On Saturday several people were injured during corralejas in El Espinal. Earlier this month one person died after being gored by a bull during a corraleja in the town of Repelon.

Japanese authorities are searching for a mean monkey who's attacked 10 people during the last fortnight.
Hunt for wild monkey in Japan after 10 attacks in a fortnight

Police in Japan are searching for a wild monkey that has attacked 10 people in the space of a fortnight.

The attacks began on 8 July in the Ogori district of Yamaguchi prefecture in the country’s south-west. In the most serious incident, it badly scratched an infant after invading a family home.

“I was vacuuming when I heard my child crying, so I turned around and saw the monkey had grabbed her by the legs while she was playing on the floor. It looked like it was trying to drag her outside,” the baby’s mother told local media.

Last weekend, the monkey opened the screen door of a first-floor apartment and scratched the leg of a four-year-old girl, leaving her with minor injuries, before attacking other people nearby ...

The monkey, said to be 40-50cm in height, also invaded a local kindergarten classroom and scratched a four-year-old girl.

Local police are reportedly on high alert. They have set traps for the animal and warned people not to leave their windows open. The local mayor’s office has distributed flyers telling local residents to be on the lookout, but as of Tuesday, the animal was still on the loose. ...

A British Columbia bear locked itself inside a car, tore up the interior, and pooped inside before being freed after a few hours. This sort of thing has become more common this summer.
B.C. bear ravages car, poops inside after being trapped for three hours

A Tofino resident thought her vehicle was malfunctioning when the horn and lights started going off, but instead there was a surprise waiting for her.

Stephanie Hannay first heard her vehicle horn sounding around 10:30 p.m. Saturday outside her home.

When she peeked outside, everything seemed normal.

“I went to bed and was woken up at 2 a.m. by the horn going off again,” she said.

She grabbed her keys and went to see what was going on.

“I opened the driver-side door and this head pops out in the back seat and it’s just a bear. I couldn’t believe it.” ...

She called the Conservation Officer Service reporting line and was told a police officer would come to her house. ...

Central Island Zone conservation officer Sgt. Stuart Bates believes the same bear has damaged 12 other vehicles over the last six weeks.

“We do have a bear that about six weeks ago got into a car and got some food and has since then learned to test every car it comes across,” Bates said, adding bears are incredibly smart and strong, and will destroy vehicles from the inside out.

“They’re really hard on cars — break open door handles, windows.”

The bear was trapped inside Hannay’s vehicle for more than three hours, wreaking havoc.

“It’s bad. It’s pretty bad. You can tell he tried to get out. He basically ripped the panelling off every single door, including the hatch. Things are just strewn around … it’s a disaster,” she said.

She hasn’t tried to drive the vehicle, as the bear also defecated in the car.

“I’ve got a hold of ICBC. I have to find a mechanic that can assess the vehicle,” she said. “It smells so bad in the car. It is gross. It is absolutely disgusting.”

Hannay was told by one dealership in Port Alberni that they’ve been called numerous times over the last few weeks about the same thing happening to other people. ...

Huge jellyfish swarm surrounds boat in Israel

Mesmerising aerial footage has captured a huge swarm of jellyfish off the coast of Israel.
