Day Of The Animals: Tales Of Man Vs Beast (And Man Suffers)

Seal lured away from Norfolk Broads after climbing on kayaks

A seal had to be lured away from a section of the Norfolk Broads after becoming overly friendly with people in the area.

The seal appeared in Ludham for about five days, jumping on to people's kayaks and paddleboards.

A shopkeeper in the area, along with the East Winch Wildlife Centre and Seal and Shore Watch, decided it was best to move her on for her own safety.

"The best way was just to lure her out with fish alongside our boat," said shopkeeper David Benbow.

A Georgia cop was serving civil papers at someone's home when a goat got into the cop's car, began eating her papers, refused to get out the car, & then head-butted the cop to the ground when it finally did get out the car. https://t.co/CtuQGA9voX

Orcas attack sailing boats in the Straits of Gibraltar
'I've never seen or heard of attacks': scientists baffled by orcas harassing boats
The Observer
Whales

Reports of orcas striking sailing boats in the Straits of Gibraltar have left sailors and scientists confused. Just what is causing such unusually aggressive behaviour?

When nine killer whales surrounded the 46ft boat that Victoria Morris was crewing in Spain on the afternoon of 29 July, she was elated. The biology graduate taught sailing in New Zealand and is used to friendly orca encounters. But the atmosphere quickly changed when they started ramming the hull, spinning the boat 180 degrees, disabling the autohelm and engine. The 23-year-old watched broken bits of the rudder float off, leaving the four-person crew without steering, drifting into the Gibraltar Straits shipping lane between Cape Trafalgar and the small town of Barbate.

My husband is getting notifications from his place of employment that, in the 6 months since anyone has gone into the office, RATTLESNAKES have taken up residence. And they're happily multiplying.

ok some context, I guess there have ALWAYS been rattlesnakes in the area around the complex. it's the getting inside and setting up shop that's interesting or horrifying, depending on how you feel about snakes.

This bird's not a sport fan ...

Apparently neither is this one ...

Gavin the seal

The grey seal, named Gavin by locals, is well known in the seaside town of Littlehampton, West Sussex, and is often spotted near the harbour and along the River Arun.

Local man John Mitchell, who recorded footage of Gavin lounging on his board was happy for the company. The video, recorded on Mr Mitchell’s phone, shows the seal resting on the end of the paddleboard, dipping his head in the water and taking in his surroundings.

At one point the seal swam away so Mr Mitchell took his cue to leave – but as he did, Gavin caught sight of the paddleboarder and zoomed back “like a torpedo”, he says.

The seal, who has approached paddleboarders before and has become something of a local celebrity is named after a local RNLI lifeboatman and harbour attendant.

Downplayed in this story everywhere is the fact that she was protecting her cubs. They can be seen in the first part of the video. Anyone half knowledgeable about wild animals will realize they are in a bad situation if an animal is in protection mode. Yet, instead of hightailing it out of there, he took a goddamned video!? And then is getting attention for it. This guy seems like kind of a jerk.

Ricardo's ark: Mexican man opens his home to 300 dogs in path of hurricane

Ricardo Pimentel’s menagerie also included cats, rabbits, chicks, sheep and a hedgehog evacuated from his animal shelter

Not surprisingly, the house smelled terrible, he says. But it was worth it: all survived the storm.

“It doesn’t matter if the house is dirty, it can be cleaned,” he says. “The things they broke can be fixed or bought again, but what’s beautiful is to see them happy, healthy and safe, without wounds and with the possibility of being adopted.”

It all started with 6 October social media post. Pimentel told friends he had cut branches and boarded up windows at the Tierra de Animales (Land of Animals) shelter he founded nearly a decade ago about 20 miles (30km) south-west of Cancún, where he also lives with his family.

To keep the animals safe from the impending storm, he moved them inside. It took hours to lead the hundreds of canines indoors by leash.

Pimentel was so busy in the midst of the storm – the hurricane downed trees, knocked out power and prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents and tourists along the Yucatán peninsula’s resort-studded coast – that he was unaware that a photograph of his crowded house had gone viral on social media.

Afterward, he was surprised by the generosity of people from around the world who donated thousands of dollars.

Eeek!

A Chinese animal park has promised to improve safety after one of its workers was fatally attacked by bears in front of a tourist bus.

The accident at the Shanghai Wildlife Park took place on Saturday in the zoo's "wild beast area". Video reportedly of the incident, which was shared on social media, shows a group of tourists yelling as they watch the bears from inside a bus. The park has expressed its condolences to the worker's family.

In a statement on its website, the Shanghai Wildlife Park said it was "extremely distressed that such a tragedy occurred", adding that it also "apologised to tourists for any inconvenience caused".

The park says it is currently looking into the incident, would improve its safety management and "do our best to handle the aftermath of the incident". ...
