Male macaque monkey killed.

A member of a gang of monkeys that has terrorised residents of a Japanese city for weeks has been caught and killed, officials say.

The macaques have injured almost 50 people in Yamaguchi.

The male primate was found in the grounds of a high school on Tuesday evening by specially commissioned hunters. It was tranquilised and later put down when it was identified as one of the animals responsible for the attacks.

Authorities have been hunting the monkeys since the attacks began on adults and children about three weeks ago. Most injuries have been mild scratches and bites. Incidents are still being reported and the search continues for other members of the gang, an official at the local agricultural department told AFP.

"Eyewitnesses describe monkeys of different sizes, and even after the capture, we've been getting reports of new attacks," he said.

The captured monkey was estimated to be four years old and was about half a metre tall (1ft 7in).

Animal ambulance Den Helder-Hollands Kroon asks people not to call about the seven-year-old cat Kees anymore. Because the animal loves to swim and roll in the mud, many people want to save Kees and employees regularly receive phone calls. That is not necessary, emphasizes the animal ambulance team.

"Kees always comes home neatly (or with a coat full of mud)," the organization writes on Facebook.

Seven-year-old Kees is from Anna Paulowna and is a Maine Coon with a long coat. In addition to swimming, the animal also likes to roll in the mud. As a result, he can look "quickly neglected" to the outside world, according to the animal ambulance. "Nothing could be further from the truth, Kees has a very sweet boss, who takes good care of him."

The animal ambulance team emphasizes that it is not necessary to get Kees out of the water, because he always knows how to find his way home and is microchipped. Also, it is not a good idea to feed the animal. Kees is on the medication and receives special feed. Giving other food can cause problems for his health.

People in the vicinity of Anna Paulowna who still call about a drowned cat can be asked for a photo of the animal. "If our colleagues recognize Kees, we can tell you with confidence that you can just let him walk."

Woman bemused after ants crawl inside her Kindle and start buying books

A woman who left her Kindle idle for two weeks was horrified to discover ants had crawled inside it and started buying books.

skunk sprays church burglar and helps cops in the arrest

A burglar got a bit more than he bargained for after a skunk sprayed him while he was being arrested.

Grant Simonson, 28, was detained last Thursday morning after he was caught rifling through a church’s audio equipment in Washington state.
Deputies from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene just after 3am after a caller notified them that they could see someone with a mask and a flashlight in the church on its surveillance feed.

When sheriff’s deputies approached Simonson, they commanded him to put his hands up and lay face-down on the ground.

As Simonson complied with orders, a skunk ran onto the scene. The black-and-white mammal proceeded to spray Simonson unprompted.

‘A skunk came running around the corner, approached Simonson, and released its well-known and malodorous spray before fleeing the area,’ the sheriff’s office said.

Can you elaborate on the circumstance & how would you describe the smell?

I can only describe how a skunk's (spray's) smell smells to me. It's possible that it's sensed as "foul" in a different manner by different people who smell it.

The smell isn't "foul" in the same way that shit or something rotten seems "foul." It's more of an acrid aroma that irritates the nose rather than making one's stomach turn. For me it's like the acrid characteristic of burning rubber or plastic.

Time to come clean - you were badgering the skunk weren’t you.. Get if off your chest man.

I've never been sprayed. I've been present when a skunk sprays and I've had occasion to encounter the aftermath of a spraying. Only a few weeks ago I stepped outside at night and caught the distinctive smell of a skunk's spraying in the air.

A dolphin has attacked and bitten at least 10 people at a Japanese beach.

The dolphin attacks continue, definitely on porpoise.

A dolphin has bitten two more swimmers on the arm, in what is believed to be the latest in a string of attacks on a Japanese beach.

According to local media, at least one man was taken to hospital on Thursday after encountering the sea mammal. Japanese officials believe the same dolphin is responsible for at least six related attacks so far this summer.

While dolphins are not usually aggressive to humans, hostility towards swimmers is not unheard of.

Local media reported that one man was bitten on both his arms on Thursday morning, which was followed by another attack the same afternoon on a second man - who suffered injuries to fingers on his left hand. The incidents both took place at Koshino Beach, a popular destination for swimmers and dolphins alike near the western Japanese city of Fukui. Officials have now installed ultrasonic transmitters along the beach in the hope that its high-frequency noises will deter dolphins from the area.

Swimmers have also been warned of the dangers posed by the wild creatures - and have been instructed to avoid any in the water.
