Day Of The Animals: Tales Of Man Vs Beast (And Man Suffers)

Beware the walruses ... The headline is a bit exaggerated, insofar as it was apparently an inflatable dinghy that was sunk (but recovered?) ...
Walruses Have Attacked And Sunk a Russian Navy Boat in The Arctic

In a kind of odd man-versus-nature moment, a Russian navy boat was attacked and sunk by a walrus during an expedition in the Arctic, the Barents Observer reported Monday.

The Altai, a tugboat of the Russian navy's Northern Fleet, sailed to the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic carrying researchers from the Russian Geographical Society.

"The polar latitudes are fraught with many dangers," the research group posted in a recent press update.

One of those dangers is apparently walruses, a monstrously large animal that can weigh up to a few thousand pounds and can be quite ferocious when threatened.

To get ashore from the Altai, the researchers and other expedition participants had to rely on smaller landing craft.

During one landing, the "group of researchers had to flee from a female walrus, which, while protecting its cubs, attacked an expedition boat," the Northern Fleet said.

The navy added that "serious troubles were avoided thanks to the clear and well-coordinated actions of the Northern Fleet service members, who were able to take the boat away from the animals without harming them." ...

The Barents Observer reports that a drone was being operated in close proximity to the walruses. It is unclear if this is what triggered the aggression.

While the Russian military makes no mention of any equipment losses, the Geographical Society had a bit more to say on what happened.

"Walruses attacked the participating boat," the research group explained. "The boat sank, but the tragedy was avoided thanks to the clear
actions of the squad leader. All the landing participants safely reached the shore." ...

London & Moscow (CNN) — A walrus attacked and sunk a Russian Navy landing boat in the Arctic Ocean last week, with no one hurt in the incident.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the female animal was protecting its calves when it targeted the craft carrying researchers to the shore of Cape Geller in the Arctic.

Those on board were members of a joint expedition by the Northern Fleet -- Russia's naval fleet in the Arctic -- and the Russian Geographical Society (RGO).

Cabbie said: I had Mother Goose in the back once.

It sounds like the quintessential wild goose chase - police called to reports a bird has smashed a taxi window.

But that's exactly what officers in Nottinghamshire found on Monday.

The force posted a picture on social media of the glass-smashing goose perched on passenger seats in the back of the cab in Radford.

The animal was taken to a vet for a check-up while the unfortunate taxi driver has been left having to cover the costs of the broken window.

In a tweet, police joked the bird may have been trying to get to to Nottingham's Goose Fair, an annual event which is taking place this week.

A man who was gored by a bison in June took a date back to the same place - only for her also to be attacked.

Kyler Bourgeous brought Kayleigh Davis to the same trail at a state park in Utah with plans to watch the sunset.

But when Ms Davis ran a little ahead, she ended up alone with a bison who charged and flipped her into the air.

She sustained a broken ankle from the goring and a leg wound. In the earlier attack he had suffered a cracked rib and collapsed lung.

Hurricane, a Secret Service dog who protected President Barack Obama and his family from a White House intruder flew to the UK with his trainer to receive a PDSA medal yesterday for devotion to duty. The black Belgian Malinois has been fitted with titanium teeth.

Why the titanium teeth? The article doesn't mention them.

Malinois dogs are amazingly athletic. Have a look on youtube for clips of their jumping/climbing abilities.

It's standard practice to install titanium replacement teeth on military guard dogs whose natural teeth have been damaged or lost in training or in the line of duty.

Holy crap. That is BAD ASS.

They should just give all military dogs a set of titanium gnashers. And fricking laser beams on their fricking heads.
