More endangered animals being trafficked in luggage. Vid at link.

Rare animals have been seized from the luggage of a passenger trying to pass through an Indian airport.

A horned pit viper snake, five Iguanas, four Blue-tongued skinks, three green tree frogs and 22 Egyptian tortoises were found at Chennai airport. Officials say that the species were transported for wildlife trafficking and that some of the animals are threatened.

A large, flightless cassowary kills its owner on his property near Gainesville [Florida]. The bird native to Australia and New Guinea killed the man when it attacked him after he fell, authorities said Saturday.
The Alachua County Fire Rescue Department told the Gainesville Sun that a cassowary killed the man Friday, likely using its long claws. The victim, whose name was not released, was apparently breeding the birds, state wildlife officials said.

Don't ever fuck with a cassowary. They'll try to disembowel you with a swift drop kick or two if you piss them off or threaten their territory.

Dinosaurs are dangerous. Do not feed.

It seems like only cassowaries, ostriches (and a chicken) are the only birds that have been documented to kill people. (Eagles may have killed children, not altogether clear. But this was an adult man.) https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/tetrapod-zoology/how-dangerous-are-cassowaries-really/ The link provides info that most attacks by cassowaries were associated with being fed by humans.
The only bird I'm embarrassed to admit to have been frightened of was a chicken cockerel ..

My Dad kept various livestock as a hobby when he wasn't running the company he owned. I went to visit my parents when I would have been about 20, my Mum half laughingly mentioned a cockerel that had decided to Alpha dominate the entire property including aggressively chasing my then very young niece and nephew about.

I stepped outside one day and the bastard spotted me from about half a football pitch distance away and charged over at me trying to peck me to death .. I would have given it a kicking but I was more scared of my Dad and killing one of his beasts so it stalked me for a good five minutes. I even tried to hide behind a wall but this thing was more relentless than Michael Myers. I ended up grabbing a dustbin lid to use as a shield and shouting and thrashing about but it was out for blood.

My Dad grabbed it the next day, used his knee to wedge it into our front gate and broke its neck.

Not really .. it wasn't paying any rent, had two wives, was being fed and housed in a luxury surrounding, had the freedom to attack a 3 and 5 year old kid not including the rest of us and still didn't think that was enough. My parent's probably ate him afterwards with some cranberry sauce. Fuck him.

Lucky pooch but how did he get there?

A dog discovered some 220km (135 miles) off the coast of Thailand has been rescued by a team of oil rig workers after the exhausted pooch was spotted paddling near a drilling platform.

The brown aspin swam towards the workers when they called out to him last Friday afternoon. He was then pulled to safety.

It is not clear how the dog became stranded so far out at sea. Some reports suggest he may have fallen from a fishing trawler.

Another case of a non-domesticated captive animal killing its owner.

Pet deer kills man, injures wife in attack north of Melbourne

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/a...an-injures-woman-in-attack-north-of-melbourne

"In the nine years to 2017, Australia has not logged any deaths directly caused by deer, although 77 deaths were linked to cows and horses"

In the US, deer kill people more frequently via car collisions.

Eeeeek! Catastrophe avoided!

A lost kitten was found hiding in a sofa as it was about to be incinerated at a waste recycling centre.

The cat "poked his head up out of the cushions" while heavy machinery was moving the sofa on Wednesday, Slough Borough Council said. Owner Lauren Jones was reunited with her pet after a council appeal. She said the six-month-old kitten, named Tux, was missing for 11 days after the unwanted sofa was collected from her home. Ms Jones said Tux had apparently survived for six days without food or water in a van, before the furniture was taken on Friday to the Chalvey waste and recycling centre.

Strange ‘unicorn’ sheep saved from death by two cases of beer

When a South Australian man laid eyes on Joey the “unicorn” sheep he knew he couldn’t let such a rare animal end up on someone’s dinner plate.
Michael Foster is a stock agent but in all his years being around sheep he had never seen anything like Joey, he told Seven.
The unusual sheep has a horn growing from the middle of his head, making him look like a unicorn.
