A Virginia man has died after a bear in a tree shot by one of his hunting partners fell on him, state wildlife officials said.

The bizarre, accidental death occurred 9 December in Lunenburg county, which is between Richmond and Danville, Virginia’s department of wildlife resources said in a statement.

A hunting group was following the bear when it ran up the tree, the department said. As the group retreated from the tree, a hunter shot the bear. The animal fell on to another hunter who was standing about 10ft (3 metres) from the bottom of the tree.

The department identified the man as Lester C Harvey, 58, of Phenix, Virginia. A member of the group rendered first aid before Harvey was rushed to two different hospitals. He died from his injuries on Friday, the wildlife department stated.

Try running in your next life.

I've heard of "Savaged By A Dead Sheep", but "Death By Bear" is a new one to me...

Death by indecision.

If he'd picked just one, he could still be with us today.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was then taken to a better hospital where his condition was upgraded to deader.

Hunters hunt.
And know that it can be risky! Well done that bear but I bet they still ate you and didn't give your mates the hunter to eat! 'Hard ow life cruel ow world' as my ow granny used to say. Life's not fair!

Sometimes bears eat people, sometimes people eat bears, that's how it works.

I put a photo up on this forum a few months ago of a stuffed black bear i saw in a museum in Toronto,it was shot because it killed three young boys who were fishing on a lake in Ontario.

Apparently they were just fishing and the bear attacked,I have seen the dead bear stuffed, strange that it managed to kill the three boys though.
Did the bear jump out of a tree and land on them?

I meant they were poaching fish from the bear.

;)
Can't poach from another animal, poaching is a man made rule, besides when there's thousands of fish in a river or lake its not so difficult to get one, reports at the time were it was a rogue bear.

Jumping from trees is soooo last season yogi.
