Five corpses and two human heads have been discovered inside a shipwreck on the coast of Japan.

The boat washed ashore on Japan's Sado Island, northwest from the mainland, on Friday and authorities gained access on Saturday.

The heavily damaged vessel had Korean lettering painted on its side.

Police could not confirm whether the two heads belonged to the corpses but Japanese media said the remains were "partially skeletonised".

Though it could be true in some cases.
 
The Arctic death ship story of the 18th century Octavius / Gloriana incident is widely mentioned. However, no original / contemporary records validating the story have ever been found. As a result the story is commonly presumed to be fictional (though perhaps based on an actual incident from the early days of Arctic sailing and exploration).

About 20 years back I was on the local slipway when a old bloke turns up with a boat on a low loader,
the boat was a biggish canal cruiser which seemed a little odd but not unknown as before the Ribble
link was put in canal boats sometimes came down the Ribble and up to Glasson dock were they could
access the Lancaster canal, sometimes calling at Fleetwood on the way.
So no one bothered to much till he asked "which way to the I.O.M from here" It seemed he had been
born in the I.O.M and was going home, no amount of trying to discourage him worked and it's every
mans right to put to sea in a boat no matter how dangerous it seems to others so there wasn't a lot
anyone could do, a look on board showed no navigation equipment not even a compass, one of the
local fishermen gave one to him.
Off he went, I think it was 10 days later the boat was found drifting in Liverpool bay and the old guy
dead in the cabin never heard the cause of death or anything else but did wounder if he really intended
to get to the I.O,M.
 
This newly reported incident on Lake Erie (off Cleveland's lakefront) represents the most immediately recognized "death ship" scenario I think I've ever read about.

The boat was towed back to the Coast Guard Station in Cleveland, and the two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was taken to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead there a short time later. ...
