Have got the one regarding LSD laced tattoos.

I need to find some ULs that either portray children as evil monsters, or innocent victims, got a project to do about the medias portrayal of children and i thought a good urban legend or two would help get the point across.

Thanks for any suggested links and tales.

Hi,
http://snopes.com has loads of urban legends, a lot about kids.

(I already wrote this post once, then it got zapped when I accidentally closed the window! Gaah!)

Here are some examples:

Bubble gum contains spider's eggs:

Don't stick your head out of the bus window or you'll lose it:

Swimming after eating will give you cramps and you'll drown:

Death by Spongebob:

Do youngsters signal sexual availability with jelly bracelets?

Don't wee in the pool:

Penny on tracks:

Poisoned trick or treaters:

There are loads more. Do a search for kids or children on there.

:)

Look up 'Black Eyed Children'. I don't know if it's been labelled an Urban Legend yet, but it should be.

Well done, Leaferne.

I was just too lazy and anyway, what's the point in calling it research when everyone else has looked up the references for you? ;) :D

BTW, I hate those stories. They freak me out considerably. If someone would please label them a UL, it would make me feel somewhat better. :eek!!!!:

No problem. :)

As with a lot of these stories, you could sit there and pick the details apart with a skeptical eye, but for my money, whether these tales are true or not, there's nothing quite like the visceral reaction you get from reading them for the first time. It's like those webcam shots of the guy walking around a Moscow office at night: could be a perfectly mundane explanation or a put-up job, but oh, I do love the frisson of contemplating an office where the lights mysteriously come on and a figure in a cheesy suit roams the hallways!

That BEK thing is more of a ghost story than a UL. It doesn't fulfill the basic tenets of an urban legend: circulates widely in lots of different versions, not easily traced to an original teller, and has some kind of warning or moral about it.
So I'd say it's not a UL. Good story though.

But, it does play on the adult's fear of children.

I was in a criminology class a couple of years ago when one of the students was telling how an obvious UL had happened to someone she knew. I said, it's not true, it's an urban legend, if it wasn't it would have been in the papers, big sensational story, blah blah blah....
.... no, she insisted, it's true. It didn't get into the papers because the Trafford Centre paid off the victim to keep quiet.......

Lots of people who repeat ULs swear blind that it really happened to someone they know.

Yup, first one I heard of was the 'finds microwave oven by roadside, drives off with it, is pulled over by police asking for their radar trap back, and here's a ticket for doing 200mph' which 'happened' to named acquaintances who had in the meantime moved to the Lake District.......:D

I did find a car numberplate after a hit and run though so that one's true!

HELP!

I've tried googling for 'Black Eyed Children' and 'Black Eyed Kids' but could only find one story on Obi-Wan's pages. Oh, yeah, and about 300 links to Black Eyed Peas Lyrics...

Does anyone know of anymore that I can read on the net please as not heard of these before and am interested?

Ta

Why do you folks always post the spookiest stories when i'm alone on a night shift. I was going outside for a fag but i'm too scarred now!!! :(

I heard of one once, a husband and wife go off for the weekend, leaving their baby with a babysitter, only the babysitter dies [for unexplained reasons] and the parents come home 3 days later to find their baby dead [from starvation supposedly] in it's cot :cross eye

Yup, somebody once ruined my xmas with that one.:(

A posh couple are going on holiday, leaving the baby with the nanny.
The nanny is away and is late getting back so the couple set off for the airport leaving the baby in its high chair.....
........where it is found a fortnight later on their return, as the nanny has been killed in a road crash on the way to their house.

Those BEK stories are vaguely distressing. Perhaps I'll be locking my car doors when in quiet places at night now :)

I read some BEK stories somewhere (sorry I have no intentions of looking the URL up :eek!!!!: ) terrifying doesn't even begin to cover it ...

Yes, 'scargo t'is a nasty little UL ... I think there was a similar one about the parent forgetting the baby was in the back of the car, which was used in an episode of CSI ...

BEK to BEK

I don't think this creepy little tale quite qualifies as a UL but certainly qualifies as a bloodcurdler. Even the notion of two kids with contacts running around trying to scare people is worrying.
