Much as I love Doctor Who (all of it, to one degree or another) it never ceases to amaze me how seriously some people can take it. To me, it's an escapist romp. The occasional message is something it has always done (sometimes more subtly than others, sometimes more successful than others), but I just go along for the ride, for the jeopardy, the monsters, the silliness, the drama.... whatever. If it ever stops being fun, I will take the advice that Tegan's Aunt Vanessa gave her and 'give it up'. But even then I expect I will continue to enjoy its amazing heritage.Just looked it up on wiki and the Fugitive Doctor is pre the 1st.
Who knows? Lots of fans worry about canon. I don't. I kind of did once, but it is all just a great big ball of timey wimey stuff now! What I want to know is, is it now cannon that there are two Doctors. Gatwa and Tennant?
Are they going to spawn spin offs with their own regenerations?
Hehe. Definitely a low point! But I survived that, and many other things that have horrified me. K9 (who I love now, bless), Tom talking to the camera (how dare he!), Beryl Reid in charge of a space freighter, Kate O'Mara cosplaying as Bonnie Langford, the Myrka, Dr Malcolm Taylor, the Moon is an egg, River bloody Song.... I could go on. The day 'Doctor Who' forgets how to make me cringe is the day I put my sonic screwdriver collection on eBay.They really do just need some decent writers on-board with a show-runner who's interested in proper storytelling rather than overly complicated grand arcs that never properly pay off (the Timeless Child guff still rankles with me).
Who having a "message" driven subtext isn't exactly new, but they need to have the subtext be part of well written stories with relatable characters, which seems to have been lost in recent years.
If Disney are still on board, they really should open the bank vault to Peter Jackson and/or J. Michael Straczynski, both of who have expressed an interest in Who but both of whom were turned away by dear old Auntie Beeb.
That said, in any complaints we've got about Nu-Nu-Who, do we not remember the horror that was Paradise Towers...?
Shame the BBC doesn't follow your excellent example.
Except, at that point that branch didn't end, and the same bloody discussion just carried on further along, how 'woke' is destroying people's childhoods and legacies and yada yada. And at this precise point that branch of this discussion ends. Back to Dr Who
I've loved the latest episodes. Much better than last season, Space Babies was a definite low point. Good dynamic between our two leads, but we had that last season just some poorly written stories, not all!I know I'm the odd one out on this forum, but I'm thoroughly enjoying this series!
Especially Lux and The Well, I gave both 9/10.
But I'm notoriously uncritical, I enjoy the show and can't get upset about it, even at it's worst it's better than 90% of the tripe that gets made these days.
We are the odd TWO out, @Fluttermoth. You've summed up how I feel about it. I just enjoy it for what it has always been to me, escapist fun. I think all 3 episodes so far this season have been good. I'm glad it's not just me.I know I'm the odd one out on this forum, but I'm thoroughly enjoying this series!

For example there was a bit in an episode (sorry, can't remember which*{and there's only been three!}) where the Dr is holding on to Belinda and they have some sort of trapped-in-a-void montage of panicked faces and running around. It's filmed with a black background and frequent image overlays. I think it's a simple (cheap?) device that I remember often in older episodes.
Still had a good old Welsh quarry in the last ep. Where would Dr Who be without quarries?I don't know if it's done on purpose but I like some of the 'nods' to old Who.

And talking of cheap, the extra money from The Mouse does lift the visuals a loooong way away from the usual quarries and sliver foil/ papier mache tunnels of the old days.
Still not keen on all the crying, however I came across a theory that it's linked to the Mrs Flood character![]()
*pretty sure someone on here will be able to tell me without looking it up![]()
The cold open for 'Lux' felt quite old school to me. Though not WHO, more Sapphire and Steel*; It felt a lot like the sort of event they would have investigated.I don't know if it's done on purpose but I like some of the 'nods' to old Who.

Hmmm. Interesting theory re: Belinda. We'll see....The cold open for 'Lux' felt quite old school to me. Though not WHO, more Sapphire and Steel*; It felt a lot like the sort of event they would have investigated.
I'm putting spoiler tags in here just in case anyone hasn't watched yet.
I'm liking Belinda as the new companion. She gives off more of a Donna vibe than any of the previous companions, which is a good thing. I'm still not convinced that there isn't something more going on with her though. In episode 1, she asked the Doctor
. As far as I can tell, the Doctor never told her aboutIs that your TARDISprior to that scene. The fans (read as haters) on reddit seem to want to think it is a mistake, or a scene was cut. I'm not so sure about that. We are talking about RTD here; He likes his misdirect and dropping innocuous sounding lines every now and again.the TARDIS
The throw-away line in 2023's Children In Need Special where 14 says something like "The timelines of canon are rupturing" provides a get out for Chibnall's retcon of the Doctor's origins. This is then added to in one of the 14th Doctor's specials where the Toymaker asks the Doctor something like "How to you like the changes I've made", implying that his meddling has altered canon. I reckon this is a way that RTD could un-retcon Chibnall's changes without having to be too heavy handed about it.
*Surely someone is interested in reviving Sapphire and Steel?
Maybe she's the Guv'nor, as in the head honcho of the Pantheon? Interestingly, she seemed to be as vulnerable as everyone else to Sutekh's 'dust of death' in last season's 2-part finale, so maybe she isn't. Or maybe that was a bit of misdirection.Interesting Doctor light episode. So ‘I’m the Governor’ is that her name? Is she a Time Lord?
As an actual lady, I can say that's absolutely fascinating, and I've bookmarked it for later, I love people who go into obsessive detail of their 'thing', whatever it may beForm a que ladies, someone's identified every chair used in every Dr Who from 1963 to 1989.
