Does Magick Work?

Something always happens. Not being clever. Outcomes vary, but from conception through process and on into aftermath, change occurs. It's childish to think conjuring for love will result in waking up the next day with Aisling Bea sitting on your face. No, magic works most commonly through intense focus of authentic will. Staying with the original intent by way of consistent application of reliable practice over time.

Which might be why the flippant are often the loudest detractors. They've not the sense God gave a house brick, yet they'll exclaim to all and sundry on their twtty or whatever that magic is bollocks because they tested it once and nothing happened.

Talk to someone who does it if you're really serious about learning something. That's an encouragement, not a dismissal. There's never been so much openness, literature or free online contact available on magic practice. Bypass the Newage crystal store and engage directly with a magus, or a witch, or a shaman.

Just popping in and equally off topic to mention Exeter's Bury Meadow. I grew up thinking it was called 'Berry Meadow' as there were blackberries growing in the hedge that surrounded it, but no, it was the old cholera burial ground. Again, well outside the walls of the city, although the city had expanded quite a lot by the time of the cholera outbreaks, but no headstones or memorial. Just a big field into which they shovelled the bodies, some of which must have travelled a fair distance to get there.

Mmm. Let's have some cholera blackberries on our cholera Weetabix!

Re. magic/magick working, how could we ever know, I guess? If you casted a spell and it "worked" (desired outcome got) then how could you ever know whether that was random chance or not? Ditto "saying a prayer"..? But then again, these same ideas have existed right across time and cultures, so does that imply there's something in it?

If we believe in "magic/k", then maybe we're just optimising the chances of the desired outcome a bit like entering the lottery. You'll never win it if you don't even enter it? It could work, so why not do it?

Is it the same thing as the modern idea of "The Secret" where you manifest something by thinking about it? The fact you're bending your will to it, does that make the outcome more likely? Why am I sceptical about "The Secret" or "the power of prayer" - but less so about some forms of magic?

50/50!

Science & Religion must be sort-of proven forms of previously unknown forms of 'magic & mysticism.'

Warning - what follows will only make sense to those who watched Game of Thrones (or read the books).

We spent some time trying to figure this out.

All those different belief systems in Game of Thrones but which ones have a magic (or whatever you call it if it's in the context of formal religion) that actually works?

Like, their prayers/magic/ritual gives tangible results? The Seven is clear nonsense. The Old Gods - kinda, maybe. Arguably. The batshit Red God? Melisandre proves several times that stuff is actual, working, tangible magic...

Re GOT, Dandarian brings Thoros back from the dead too. By prayer. Or is it the other way around?

The only semblance of authentic process I recall is leaches on dickies and then a bit of hair cutting for Jon Snow. Process magic is often long and laborious, so not apt for light entertainment.

I guess if you write it, it works on the page.
