Drunken Scot urinated on child and shouted at flock of sheep bringing A9 to standstill

A topless Scots man brought the A9 dual carriageway to a standstill by staggering drunkenly across the road to berate a flock of sheep.

Thomas Degnan hurled abuse at the sheep after collapsing in the central reservation as numerous drivers were forced to swerve or stop to avoid hitting him.

The 42-year-old also urinated on the side of a car and then opened the vehicle door and continued to do so onto a nine-year-old boy sitting in the back.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that Degnan was so drunk that he had no recollection of the incident or why he decided to target a field full of sheep. ...

This California woman turned a basic DUI arrest into something much more serious ...
Sonoma County police chase enraged mother accused of driving drunk

Cotati officers said a woman accused of driving drunk, hit a patrol car and forced a police chase on Friday.

The chase began when a man, who was attempting to pick up his child in a custody exchange, came into the Cotati Police Department saying the mother of the child was driving drunk ...

The woman, named as Dorfer by police, was seen in her green Lexus in the parking lot of the police department. A sergeant ordered Dorfer to stop, but she fled in the Lexus ...

A second sergeant ... tried to pull over Dorfer with sirens, but she didn't stop ... Instead, Dorfer put her hand out her car window and displayed her middle finger ...

Then, Dorfer allegedly reversed and rammed into a police car attempting to pull her over. The impact caused major damage to the car and minor injuries to the sergeant.

Police said Dorfer fled the scene again after ramming into the patrol car, and was driving at dangerous speeds, almost hitting a motorcyclist. Dorfer allegedly collided with two cars in Rohnert Park, and the pursuit was deemed too risky and terminated.

Dorfer’s Lexus was later found at a convenience store on E. Cotati Ave in Rohnert Park. Police said Dorfer ran in the store and drank a travel size bottle of hard liquor. ...

While taking Dorfer into custody, authorities said she fought them and allegedly bit one officer.

Police did not say where the child was during the chase. ...

She can pick ‘n mix from the usual range of excuses, including but not limited to:

  • It was a one-off.
  • It was due to PTSD caused by hubby’s (previously-unmentioned) abuse.
  • It was an adverse reaction between her PTSD (see above) meds and the one beer she drank with lunch.
  • She was frightened of the policeman.

This Connecticut bus driver may or may not have understood his candy snacks were cannabis-infused, but it definitely affected his driving and now his legal prospects.
Bus driver says he didn’t know his gummy snacks included THC

A commercial bus driver has been charged with 38 counts of reckless endangerment after blacking out behind the steering wheel while snacking on gummies he says he didn’t know were infused with THC.

Jinhuan Chen appeared Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court after being arrested at his home in Boston.

Chen was driving 38 passengers from the Mohegan Sun Casino on March 13 when he stopped the bus on the side of Interstate 95 in Stratford. Police said they found Chen slumped unconscious in the driver’s seat, next to an open package of Smokies Edibles Cannabis Infused Fruit Chews.

Toxicology tests showed Chen had a high level of THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, in his bloodstream, prosecutors said.

Chen told Judge Ndidi Moses on Tuesday that he had no idea he had been snacking on anything but regular candy.

“I didn’t know it was marijuana,” Chen said through a Chinese interpreter ... “I didn’t know.” ...

Victor Chen, the manager of Go Go Sun Tour, the bus company, told Hearst that Jinhuan Chen had been driving for the Boston-based company for 10 years and has an exemplary record.

“He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, but he has a sweet tooth and likes candy,” Victor Chen said. ...

The legal consequences for DUI crimes can extend to parties other than the drunks themselves.
Liquor store owners banned from selling alcohol after providing liquor to DUI driver who killed young family

In 2019, 20-year-old Carlo Navarro killed a family of three in Long Beach by hitting them with his car after he had illegally purchased whiskey from a Long Beach liquor store. Now the store owners who sold the alcohol to the underaged teen have been banned for life from holding a liquor license.

Amor Potestades Amacio, 60, and her daughter, Syntyche Amacio, 28, both of Norwalk, pleaded guilty for their roles in the deaths of the Awaida family, who were run over by Navarro near Los Cerritos Park in Long Beach. ...

Navarro was arrested and later charged with three counts of murder for their deaths.

Video obtained by prosecutors showed Amor Amacio gave Navarro a bottle of whiskey for free sometime before that deadly crash. She did not check his ID, admitting that she knew he was underage because she had sold to him on other occasions, and instead told him to come back the following day with $25 to pay for the $16 bottle. ...

On Wednesday, Amor Amacio was convicted of furnishing alcohol to a minor who later caused great bodily damage or death. As a condition of her plea, she has now been banned from ever holding a liquor license or participating in businesses that sell or distribute alcohol. She was also sentenced to one year in jail, five years of probation and 720 hour of community service. She must also provide proof of up to $1 million in civil liability insurance to pay restitution to the victims of the deadly crash.

In addition to the charge for furnishing, she was also convicted of conspiracy to obstruct licensing provisions of the Alcohol Beverage Control Act because she was operating her liquor store, Green Diamond Liquor, without approval from ABC.

Her daughter, Syntyche, is recognized as the owner of Green Diamond Liquor, although Amor Amacio is the operator of the store. Syntyche applied for and received a liquor license for the store after her mother was convicted of welfare fraud and was placed on probation, which left her unlikely to obtain a liquor license.

Syntyche pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct licensing provisions of the Alcohol Beverage Control Act for being the “paper owner” of the liquor store while allowing her mother to operate it. She was not present at the time when her mother gave the liquor to Navarro, and prosecutors say there was no past evidence that she had given alcohol to minors in the past.

Regardless, she also was banned from ever holding a liquor license, was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to complete 40 hours of community service.

Both women are also required to donate $1,000 to a local charity selected by the Awaida family. ...

Navarro, meanwhile, was convicted last week on three counts of murder for hitting and killing the Awaida family. ...

Controlling a ground vehicle is difficult enough when intoxicated. It can't be any easier for someone piloting a small plane. However, in this case the potted pilot didn't do any crashing until he had safely (?) landed on a major highway.
‘Intoxicated’ Pilot Runs Out of Fuel, Makes Emergency Landing on Missouri Interstate Highway

An “intoxicated” pilot managed to make an emergency landing on a major highway in Missouri early Friday after his light aircraft ran out of fuel ... The Missouri State Highway Patrol excitedly tweeted to warn commuters on Interstate 70 that westbound lanes were being “BLOCKED by an AIRCRAFT!” They added that the pilot was the only person on the aircraft, which had miraculously avoided hitting any other vehicles, though the pilot was slightly injured after the plane collided with a guardrail. It later emerged that the reason for the pilot’s emergency landing was that he had run out of fuel. “The pilot was found to be intoxicated & arrested,” the state highway patrol tweeted. “He was released to a local hospital for treatment of minor injury.”

I suppose the cynical interpretation here is that both the driver killed and the driver responsible were under the influence of drugs and alcohol, so there were no sober victims.

Drunk driver knocks woman off her bike then runs over her

The woman, in her 70s, suffered life-changing injuries after being crushed beneath the wheels of a 4x4 driven by Steven Selwood, 43, who was four times over the limit.

She was cycling over a crossroad in Haslemere on May 12 last year when Selwood came out of a side road and knocked her off in broad daylight.

Selwood then continued to drive forward, crushing her under the wheels as she lay on the ground.

A member of the public stopped his car, but he drove off before he ended up walking back to the scene. He was identified by witnesses and arrested.

Selwood was jailed for two years and three months after being found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst over the limit.

He was also banned from driving for three years.

Awful case, I having a passing acquaintance with the victim, who was (obviously) very badly injured... she lost a leg. Some time ago she told me that she didn't expect the driver to be convicted, because he fled the scene and was arrested at home later, and the breathalyser results wouldn't be valid. I'm glad he was jailed.
