Unless they want the local yoof to stab their kitchen knives into the sides of it to turn 'em in?
It's a pretty expensive gimmick which probably has little to no real effect.

Policeman accidentally shoots suspect (27) dead, gets no punishment

The policeman who shot 27-year-old Tim van der Boor from Dordrecht in Waalwijk last year will receive no punishment for this. The court ruled that he had his finger too close to the trigger, but that he was not to blame because he was startled by an unexpected movement of the victim.

Van der Boor was shot at Larixplein in the Bloemenoord neighbourhood on Thursday 17 March and died of his injuries shortly after the incident. The victim was a suspect in an ongoing drugs investigation and the arrest team swung into action to apprehend him. In doing so, police fired shots and Van der Boor was hit in his neck and thumb.

The judge stressed that statements also revealed that the victim raised his left hand, which "makes it plausible", as the defence has also argued, that the officer shot from a startle reaction. "Forensic examination shows that the bullet also passed through the victim's left thumb," the judge said.

The officer had just joined the arrest team for five months and saw his job as a dream job. He was relieved of his duties immediately after the fatal shooting. "He will have to live with the thought that he made a big mistake and that is already a severe punishment" said the prosecutor a fortnight ago. The latter therefore thought community service of 60 hours was appropriate for culpable homicide.

The officer said during the trial he was kept awake by the case, writes Rijnmond. "I was shocked myself by the shot and by the breaking of the glass. I played the film a thousand times. I was startled, I think. And I must have been at the trigger with my finger, but I can't tell exactly how it happened."

The Dordrecht resident's mother calls it a terrible day. "I'm furious and I just don't understand it," she tells Omroep Brabant. "I already thought the demand of 60 hours of community service was nothing, but acquittal I think is pretty hefty."

Police raid wrong house Schijndel, 'family very shocked'

Police raided the wrong house in Schijndel, Brabant, last night. A family with three small children was present there. According to the police, the family was very shocked. "Of course we have apologised."

The police were looking for a man whose arrest might pose risks. For that reason, a so-called police arrest unit was called in, reports Omroep Brabant.

Police regret action
Around 8.30pm, the team forced the door of the house. "However, it soon became clear that we had made a mistake," police said. The family has "no relationship with the wanted person", according to the police.

Police deeply regret what happened and say they are in close contact with the family about how to proceed. How it was possible that the wrong house was invaded is being investigated.

The man the police were looking for has not yet been arrested.
Further information about the suspect and the investigation would not be shared by the police.

After the discovery, divers searched the rest of the water on Van Deelenstraat. It was feared that a child playing with the car had fallen into the water, reports Omroep Brabant. There was no evidence of this. Apart from the little car, nothing has been found. Nobody has been reported missing either.

A 43-year-old man was fatally shot by police in Las Vegas after he called 911 for help while fighting off an intruder in his home.

The family of Brandon Durham, including his 15-year-old daughter who was hiding in a nearby room, have asked for the officer to be fired.

Mr Durham's teenage daughter said she was "disgusted" with Las Vegas police as they treated him like "the suspect" not "the victim".

A lawyer for Alexander Bookman, the officer who shot Mr Durham, said he committed no crimes. ...

Turning the corner of an L-shaped hallway, the officer finds a shirtless Mr Durham wrestling over a knife with a woman wearing a ski mask, later identified as 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux.

Mr Bookman yells, "hey, drop the knife, drop the knife", seconds before firing a shot that hit Mr Durham and sent him and Ms Boudreaux to the ground.

Mr Bookman then fires five more shots at Mr Durham and says "put your hands up", body-worn camera footage released by police showed.

Mr Durham was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms Boudreaux was arrested and charged with four counts, including home invasion with a deadly weapon.

"I am disgusted in how the Metropolitan Police told my father, after killing him, to stay down," Mr Durham's daughter told local news. "I'm disgusted that the Metropolitan Police will allow me to live fatherless for the rest of my life."

The family's lawyer has asked for an immediate arrest warrant for Mr Bookman.

Wow, the police there in the Netherlands apologized for raiding the wrong house and terrorizing children? Over here they would not only not apologize, they’d likely find some pretext to charge them with a crime.

Florida officer accidentally shoots motorist with his own gun

A Florida police officer has been sacked after she accidentally shot a driver with his own gun during a traffic stop.

Jason Arrington was pulled over on 13 December because officers said he went through a red light in the Jacksonville area. Bodycam video shows him complying with a request to step out of the vehicle.

Then Officer Mindy Cardwell inadvertently "put pressure on the trigger" of Mr Arrington's legally owned Glock .45 as she removed it from his holster, causing a round to fire into his right leg, said officials.

Completely OTT, at the very least these officers require retraining.

The boy's mother says he was playing with a Nerf gun in a park when stopped by armed police

A mother says her 13-year-old son is "still in shock" and "struggling to sleep" after armed police confronted him and a friend while they played with a Nerf gun in a park.
Annette, from Hove, Sussex, said the boys had been playing with the plastic gun in Greenleas Recreation Ground after dark on Saturday.

She said she was told two armed officers emerged from an unmarked car running towards the boys screaming "get down, get down".

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Toy guns should only be used on private property, with permission from the landowner."

Annette told BBC Radio Sussex: "When I arrived at the park there were already four police cars and eight to 10 officers around the boys.

"When the armed officers realised they were holding toy guns they started talking to the boys. I was so scared. It was unbelievable. I can only imagine how the boys were feeling at that moment. It was a bit out of proportion. It looked a bit like an American action movie. It was too much."

I don't get this one because as far as I am aware you cannot carry a gun in a car in Florida unless it's properly secured and not available for immediate use.

I'm surprised that they did not take it from him before he got out of the car in any case.

(I'm not excusing the woman who shot him though).

I don't have a problem with this idea. I get very antsy, say, on a bus when a child is stalking me and then lining up and making "bang and her brains start coming out" comments.

edit to add: I am weary of parents thinking it's play. Well it is, but your adrenalin and fight/flight/fuck/fall instincts kick in. I am desperate NOT to punt the perp as far as I can while getting hold of the weapon :(

But is it the law? Or did the cop just claim more authority? I agree with you it's annoying but should kids be banned from playing with toy guns in the streets, in playgrounds?
